  1. André Hodeir 'American Jazzmen Play Andre Hodeir' (Savoy, mono)
  2. Lots of respects for Budd Johnson whom I was privileged to meet when I was allowed to attend the first rehearsals of the Quincy Jones big band in Paris in 1959. What a nice man he was! And what a band it was! I have that Clark Terry 'All American' Moodsville LP (cover design by Don Schlitten). Good arrangements by Oliver Nelson: Also highly recommended are the albums he recorded for the Black and Blue label: - Mr Bechet (with Earl Hines) - Ya! Ya! (with Charlie Shavers) - The Last Session (under Shavers' name)
  3. Got my copy today and it is being spinned several times... this was previously listed as a Brew Moore date with Fruscella playing on several tracks. Fruscella is in fact soloing on all of them. Beautifully relaxed playing with a number of tunes that are variations on the 'Blue Lester' theme... Sound is very decent but rather flat, in typical Atlantic audio fashion. No audio credits and a couple of erroneous photo credits. Liner notes by Jordi Pujol who does not indicate how he got hold of the copy. Main thing is that the session is available now and we can enjoy it
  4. More Miles! In case, somebody missed any of those albums... From Membran this time! €44,99 at FNAC.fr for 34 CDs. Detailed content
  5. Claude Williamson 'Plays Gershwin' (FreshSound) Strangely, this nice date - recorded in Barcelona in 1987 and produced by Jordi Pujol - does not seem to have been reissued on CD!
  6. Jimmy Lyons 'The Box Set' (Ayler), disc 2
  7. Phil Woods 'The Macerata Concert' (Philology, LPs 2 and 3)
  8. Obituary in The New York Times today.
  9. Surprised (happily surprised...) that Marion Brown is featured at a Warhol exhibition. Was there more to the two of them than their common participation in the ESP 'East Village Other' recording? Too bad that the exhibition does not travel to Paris! Looks very interesting.
  10. Stuff Smith 'The Complete Verve Sessions', discs 3 and 4
  11. I still have Ingo Nine (Sonny Rollins Trio in Sweden 1959). Great album that I have not listened to since Dragon released the same concerts in more complete form and better audio!
  12. Booker Ervin 'The Freedom Book' (Prestige mono, yellow label)
  13. Gaines is also listed in the Lord Discography
  14. Shakey Jake 'Mouth Harp Blues' (Prestige/Bluesville, blue label)
