  1. Not a great match! The teams were not in the same league as Barcelona or Arsenal. That was a memorable confrontation. Lyon barely deserves to go to the semifinals!
  2. Elvin Jones 'Dear John C' (Impulse, mono)
  3. Done! Another splendid 3CD set from this wonderful series. Disc 1 has the various 1938 broadcasts from Fleischman's Yeast Radio Show. The other 2 discs have the Decca sides that are also on the Mosaic Armstrong Decca box except for the few alternate takes that appeared on the Mosaic.

His super sexy wife was Frances... Francis is a masculine name which does not fit here
  5. The Complete Louis Armstrong, vol. 8 'Public Memory Nr. 1' 1937-1938' (Frémeaux & Associés)
  6. MESSI!! Out of this world!!
  7. The Solal interview was the DVD that accompanied the INA/Michel de Maule book 'Martial Solal, Compositeur de l'Instant' by Xavier Prévost Better know French to really appreciate it!
  8. Art Farmer Quartet 'Live at the Half Note' (Atlantic, mono)
  9. Obituary in The New York Times.
  10. Valburn 'was paid $250,000 for half of it and presented the other half as a tax-deductible gift' according to this 1991 AP story. Also to answer medjuck's query, I have seen somewhere that Valburn had permanent unlimited access to his collection until he died.
  11. The BYG release had sound 'borrowed' from the French ORTF archives. The Atlantic had sound of its own (recorded by Barclay Studio).
  12. The one with Lou Donaldson is the alternate take of 'Plum Nellie'. It was also on the Mosaic Jimmy Smith. The other tunes also appeared on various BN CDs.
  13. The Don Harper & Denny Wright Quartet 'The Pizza Express' (Pizza Express) featuring Al Cohn! Found this in New York at the Jazz Record Center after missing this in London!
  14. Alice McLeod and Kenny Hagood met in Paris and married there in 1960. The marriage did not last long. While in Paris, Hagood recorded only one album (he appeared on a couple of tunes on a Guy Lafitte French Columbia ten-incher). In her book 'My Life in E-flat' Chan Parker mention Alice and Hagood appearing and sitting in together at a Paris farewell party thrown in when the Quincy Jones orchestra returned to the States (in 1960) after their sojourn in Europe. The thought of Chan Parker and Alice Coltrane together at a party gives me the chill There was a previous thread on Kenny Hagood here (or at the BNBB?) that was initiated by mmilovan but I could not locate it.
  15. I am not aware that 'The Singles' was released on CD, if you mean the BN King LP of that name that JohnS detailed.
  16. Happy Birthday Jeff  Wishing you anoher great year!
  17. The John Rae Quintet 'Opus de Jazz Vol. 2' (Savoy/King Japan) with Bobby Jaspar, Steve Kuhn, John Neves and Jake Hannah
