  1. Some other way-too-young jazz deaths... Tubby Hayes, died at 38 in 1973 Bobby Jaspar, died at 37 in 1963 Jaco Pastorius, died at 36 in 1989 Chano Pozo, died at 33 in 1948 Lem Winchester, died at 33 in 1961
  2. Bayern Munich vs. Lyon was not much of a match with Bayern winning 3-0 without much opposition. Winner of the May 22 Champions League final will be the winner of tonights other semifinal Barcelona-Inter Milan. Placing no bet but hoping to watch a lively game!
  3. Jimmy Blanton!
  4. Johnny Mercer Mosaic Select, CD1! Have mixed feelings so far...
  5. The package arrived in a flash! The discs are in good shape. Many thanks, David!
  6. Charles Mingus 'Oh Yeah!' (Atlantic, mono)
  7. That was a Japanese RCA reissue of the session which was originally released on Specialty (I have never seen that album). The original session was produced by Herb Abramson. Got it when InnerCity reissued the sessions on vinyl in 1977
  8. Kenny Drew 'For Sure' (Xanadu) with Sam Noto, Charles McPherson, Leroy Vinnegar, Frank Butler!
  9. Word is out now that there will be more releases in the Jazz in Paris series. Probably out next month! These will be mainly reissues from the earlier series with covers that will skip the excellent black and white archival photos. The new series will feature CDs with images of the original albums covers. Some bonuses will be added to several of the releases. No idea if there will be fresh material. As usual, nothing on the Universal France website!
  10. No sign of further issues! Hope Volkher is well! Hi Volkher!
  11. Coleman Hawkins Miles Davis
  12. That was an excellent album! Great playing by Sleet and tenor Daniel Jackson! Now listening to their previous release: Lenny McBrowne and the Four Souls (PacificJazz) with Sleet and Jackson again. Elmo Hope composed one tune and arranged three others for this session.
  13. Well, it IS a rare album! It's already reached that price (and more) at some other auctions. If not mint, the condition of that one looks pretty good. I'll keep my vinyl copy courtesy of FreshSound. Plus my Japanese PJ CD!
  14. Youtube clip
  15. In 1986 at the Storyville hall in New Orleans! More from the same evening... Bemsha Swing!
  16. Lenny McBrowne and The Four Souls 'Eastern Lights' (Riverside, mono) with Don Sleet on trumpet! Liner notes by Chris Albertson!
  17. He sings 'Just a little bit South of Carolina'. That's from a 1942 broadcast with the Lee and Lester Young's Band (with Jimmy Rowles on piano)! The track was also included on vol. 2 of the Lester Young series from Masters of Jazz!
  18. Niko, there are several items that were not on the single CDs (nothing really essential). Check Volkher's livingwithmusic listing for details!
  19. Red Garland Quintet with John Coltrane 'High Pressure' (Prestige, yellow label)
