  1. yes, but you shouldn't lose sleep about that
  2. Don Friedman Trio 'Circle Waltz' (Riverside, mono)
  3. Two things ECM and various Spanish labels have in common: they raise controversies. Another lookalike cover for the tough crowd:
  4. Jordi Pujol had very legal distribution rights in Spain for RCA Victors recordings which is why so many of these sessions and albums surfaced on RCA Spain labels.
  5. Claude Schlouch would know, of course! If it's really Goon Gardner on that jam, then I have heard him! It took both Doug Pomeroy and John R.T. Davies to produce adequate sound for those acetates for their initial release on the Stash album 'Charlie Parker - The Birth of the Bebop'.
  6. This is really sad! Reid was the drummer on several of Charles Tyler's recordings (Voyage from Jericho, Live in Europe, Saga of the Outlaws, among others) and contributed mightily on the success of those dates!
  7. Have heard of him but never heard him... According to the Lord discography, his only record appearance is on a Horace Henderson album released by IAJRC 'Horace Henderson at the Trianon Ballroom 1954'.
  8. Roy and Diz, vol. 2 (Clef MGC-671)
  9. Johnny Griffin-Eddie Davis 'Tough Tenors' (Jazzland, mono)
  10. No love for that one ???
  11. She's good on that 'Route 66' album from the CBS/Sony Japan series where she is backed by Kenny Kirkland, Anthony Cox and Ronnie Burrage (plus appearances by Jerry Gonzalez on trumpet). The liner notes are in Japanese (can't read them!). It's not my preferred album from this unique series (that goes to the Shirley Horn, Suzanna McCorkle and Sheila Jordan LPs). I was lucky to find mint copies of all ten albums at a record convention in Paris a long time ago. Got all ten albums for the price of a single LP! Morgana King was also featured in one of those albums.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if putting up countless subsidiaries (presumably with complicated ownership relations) makes it easier to escape responsibility for copyright/IP infringements. Why would they do that? They have nothing to fear as long as they abide by the EU regulations regarding the 50-year copyright limitations!
  13. This sounds like something to have! It is. With fine mastering by Frank Abbey! The 3LP set includes the solo piano material Wilson recorded for Brunswick and Columbia from 1934 through 1942. Currently relistening to disc 2 which has superb interpretations of 'Don't Blame Me' and 'Rosetta'!
  14. The Complete Teddy Wilson Piano Solos (CBS France), discs 1, next will be discs 2 and 3 Beautiful box produced by Henri Renaud and Michael Brooks in the early '80s
  15. Seldon Powell was not that obscure when the album came out back in 1956 (Clifford Brown's death is not mentioned yet in the liner notes). He was one of the tenor hopefuls at the time. The other tenors mentioned are Stitt, Rollins, Getz, Gray, Heath, Rouse, Foster, Eager, J.R. Monterose, Mobley, Coltrane, Gordon and Urso. Not really a chart but just a table which appears beneath the liner notes. Gitler mentions that lack of space prevented him from including 'Pres' disciples (Sims, Cohn) and their little brothers (Perkins, Kamuca).
  16. It probably sounds like an ECM too
  17. Plus Four! Only real experts KNOW what chewy's talking about
  18. Urtreger's latest album '75' is a limited edition CD and is excellent! It was recorded last July at the Duc des Lombards club when Urtreger appeared there for his 75th birthday. Great playing by all with a special mention for trumpet player Nicholas Folmer! As for Urtreger, he sounds younger and better than ever! Only 1,000 copies of the CD were manufactured They were for sale at selected FNAC stores only (and seem to have been sold out there) and via email through Carlyne Records manager at jdemirbeck@numericable.fr <jdemirbeck@numericable.fr> Highly Recommended!
  19. The Hackensack place was large enough to accomodate all the musicians who recorded the album 'Gil Evans and Ten' there, all three sessions.
  20. The Threadgill Complete Black saint and Soul note set seems to be currently available at Fnac.com.
  21. Switzerland's Fabien Cancellera win the Paris-Roubaix cycling classic! Superb victory for a real champion!
