Mobley spent time with (and I believe shared an apartment with) Philly Joe Jones in France. He also had an extended stay in London - maybe late 60's? I'm betting somewhere in the broadcast vaults of France and England there is footage of Mobley. Just look at all of the videos coming out of Europe - youtube, for example. I'm not a betting girl, but I'd bet there is Mobley footage; I just hope I get to see it in my lifetime! Been hoping to see some Mobley come out from the INA vaults but none has surfaced yet and doubt there is any. Unfortunately, Mobley was a low profile musician when he stayed in France. No Sonny Criss video yet either, even he was a very recognised musician when he was here. But some should surface some day. Know Criss was on a couple of TV shows.

chewy, forget about those electronically rechanneled BNs. A number of pre-stereo BN albums were reissued that way when the label was owned by Liberty. Get the CDs instead if you cannot lay hands on the original 12inch BN releases (they're much cheaper too!)

Got the book. It is superb. A very professional and seriously documented job with numerous little known or unknown photos and documents. Will really plunge into it later but must say it is one the items I mentioned in this thread several years ago. The CDrs are not ready yet (a matter of a few days).

Caught the Zoot/Rowles quartet at VV in 1982. Same quartet except for George Mraz on bass. They were so good I went back the following day to enjoy them!

I have seen the Marlene footage before but not the Django Reinhardt sequence! Too bad there is no sound for the Django's. A Tabarin on Danse le Jitterbug. The January 1, 1944 date for the film is generic. This was filmed in late 1944 after the Liberation of Paris!

Thanks Flurin for digging that image! Much better indeed The liner notes for the original album were written by André Hodeir (mispelled Hodier ). Not sure the notes were kept for the second version of the cover.
