My copy of 'Further Explorations' seems to be from the same batch as mikeslps. It's heavy vinyl. Both sides have deepgrooves, 63rd St. label adress and RVG stamp No adress at the bottom of the back liner notes.

Guy, how were you able to get him to pose for you? Ron, should have elaborated some more... I did not take that photo of Franco lying in state. No photographers were allowed at that scene. Only one official photographer (whose photos were then distributed to the photo agencies) was summoned for that job! Saw Franco a couple of times when he was still alive (notably when Nixon came to Madrid on an official visit).

Seriously, the name was for the one and only Clifford Brown. If I had to pick a name after a camera, my name would have been 'Nikon F'. My favorite camera, ever!

brownie on ayler

Thanks Rereading this always brings back lots of memories from that trip to New York (the first of numerous visits to the States). Still amazed that I managed to meet in so short a time so many of the musicians I wanted to listen to and write about: Sonny Murray, Archie Shepp, Marion Brown, Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, Burton Greene, Charles Tyler, Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Paul Bley among those. -
Can't just list one because I can't choose between those two sessions: the Lester Young quartet session with Johnny Guarnieri, Slam Stewart and Big Sid Catlett the Coleman Hawkins quartet session with Teddy Wilson, John Kirby and Big Sid Catlett

7/4, do you always have to be such a pathetic asshole!

Thelonious Monk (Prestige 7027, 50th St. original) the trio sides with Percy Heath, Gary Mapp, Max Roach and Art Blakey

Allen, I very much resent any comparison with Franco Which reminds me that I was driving out of Spain in 1975 near the end of holidays in that beautiful country when I heard over the radio that the General was dying. Checked with my head office and was ordered to proceed at once to Madrid where Franco's death was expected any minute. It did not take minutes or months but several weeks. After three weeks of a boring assignment, I was told to head back to Paris and wait for the actual death. It finally occured on November 20, 1975. I managed to board an early flight to Madrid and arrive there just in time to transmit the first official images to the world of Franco lying in state. And I'm not planning to do a Franco. A few more days to go... Enjoy while it lasts

Musical New Year's resolutions

Life beyond Organissimo... and among various ventures, explore further the music collection I have gathered! -
As most of the people here know by now, my name is Guy Kopelowicz. When I joined the BNBB back in early 2002, it was the first forum I enlisted in. When asked for a name I could not put in my real name since I had a rather highprofile job in a newsagency and could not register under my own name. So I took the first name that flashed through my mind. It was brownie - could have been fruscella, ayler, canto (for eric cantona) or any other favorites. Clifford Brown was (and still remains) one of my heroes. The name brownie stuck and I never gave second thought to modifying it. Question is: what does the bluerein name stands for?

Duke Ellington's Spacemen 'The Cosmic Scene' (Columbia, six-eye, mono)

Many thanks, Jim! You're the best! Really! And many, many thanks to all the other wellwishers!
-
Christern, I am not really planning to close the door. Just distance myself (as I already stated earlier) from the Board and take care of various things. I'll be lurking in from time to time and jump into the pool whenever there is a good reason for it
-
Agustin, my wife and I have had to push back further trips to Spain for the past few months for various reasons but we do plan to travel (I'll drive) to Andalusia as soon as we can, hopefully next year. Keep the bottle in the cellar so that it is opened and shared when we travel south!
-
Why choose? Get both! You won't regret it
-
Big Beat Steve, as I mentioned elsewhere this is not a sudden decision. I have thought about it for quite some time and plan to stick by it! Life's too short and there too many things to do and enjoy beyond O. You know how to reach me when I'bb be away from this place. Hope to see you in Paris next time you travel this way!

No, just happened to find a sealed copy of the 3CD set for all of €10. Since the set contained various tracks from JinP discs I passed, it was an excellent opportunity to check what was inside.
-
Bol, the JinP I sampled was not really 'vastly superior'. Just a bit better, to m ears! The Frémeaux Djangos are not that bad and they did manage to uncover an amazing number of unissued items. If you're really interested in the music of Django, the Frémeaux cannot be ignored!

I thought they officially announced the end of the series? (Or are you just talking of good offers of previous releases that you'll pick up for Volkher?) The series is probably too good for the Universal. fr people to let it die. They did come up this week with a recycled 12CD big box. And if Volkher shows up in Paris, I have saved one sample of the rare 10"LP disc from the series. Unless he already managed to find one, he'll get it
-
Volkher, you'll be more than welcome. There are still plenty of good wines to taste. And hopefully more Jazz in Paris releases by then! Damn, I envy these Parisiennes, where did you get your classy charme? Bordeax, Cotes du Rhone? Bordeaux, it has to be. I have no choice. I married a girl from Bordeaux. Our son is finishing his medical studies in Bordeaux and plans to settle there! :P

Do I remember? From the New York Times: Austrian sweet wine scandal

MG, the obituary for Roger 'Lover Man' Ramirez in the New Tork Times January 17, 1994 (and please don't tell me you don't believe what can be read in the New York Times!) Kurt Weill wrote another (different) song also called 'Lover Man'.

I really hope everybody won't proceed as they've always been doing. Some things have been going in the wrong direction for some time - negatativity, mudslinging etc. - and I know I'm not alone in thinking that this place is not quite as healthy as a few years ago. Since self-moderation tends to get weaker when you think you "know" your fellow forum members, the results are not always very civilized, and ultimately not for the best if you want to have a friendly atmosphere which will welcome new members. Daniel, I totally agree with your post!
