  1. Eric Dolphy 'At the Five Spot, vol. 1' (New Jazz, mono original)
  2. The other side of what? Come to the light, Brownie & MG!!! Count me out! I'm obviously the only one of the O. regular posters who greeted Jim A.'s announcement of a couple of days ago with less than shock. It happens that I had given thought for quite some time to distance myself from the forum. For various reasons but mainly because posting here is really taking too much time away from my other interests in life. This has to be taken as a compliment to the numerous qualities of the Board. So by coincidence I was thinking of continuing here until the end of this year and then sort of disappear when Jim A. announced that he was giving up. This really meant the end for my association. Glad to see that the decision has been overcome but let's face it, I won't be part of next year's activities. I'll probably be lurking in from time to time ande enjoy the posts from a distance. I have lots of plans (personal, family, plus various passions) for the year 2008 and the following years and aim to concentrate on those. The friends I have made here know where to reach me. Getting to know them (I'm thinking specially of Ubu, couw, EKE, Dmitry, Bertrand and so many others) has been the best reward of joining the Board and a tremendous privilege! I will be in touch with them when time comes.
  3. All of the albums he recorded with Marty Paich are highly recommended! Mel is honey to my ears on those sessions!
  4. Obit in The New York Times today.
  5. Obit in the New York Times today.
  6. Jimmy Giuffre 'Ad Lib' (French Verve reissue)
  7. No, they won't Like on volume 3 of the Intégrale, there was one track omitted from the set. This was 'Sunshine Baby', the Hociel Thomas tune from the session with Armstrong and Johnny Dodds. It is now the final track on disc 1 of volume 4! Frémeaux is doing OK
  8. I did make a comparison of the French Decca session of May 11, 1951. Never was happy with the sound of it. The session is on the Jazz in Paris CD Django Reinhardt 'Nuits de Saint-Germain des Prés' and on volume 19 '1950-1952' of the Django Intégrale on Frémeaux. Still not very satisfied with the sound but thought the remastering on the Jazz in Paris CD had a slight edge on precision.
  9. Sad news! 'Patato' was a major part in the success of the session that made up half of Kenny Dorham's 'Afro-Cuban' album. This is Patato Valdez, he is the one at left, with Brigitte Bardot in 'And God Created Woman'
  10. I don't celebrate but when I see this, I wish I did
  11. Albert Ayler 'Holy Ghost' (Revenant), disc 5
  12. I would say the final set will be something like vol. 120. If everything goes fine, and the current flow of 4 sets a year continues, that final set of theIntégrale should be available around 2040 Provided CD sets will still be an acceptable form of music by then! I'll keep my fingers crossed until then!
  13. Holy Ghost, it's been posted there (not by me). Thought it might also fit the mood here! Love this image!
  14. Can't see new material being included in the 3CD set Turns out the image was taken by the great Hungarian-born photographer Paul Almasy who spend most of his life in Paris where he died four years ago! Some other photos by Almasy. Also to confirm that all the music in that 3CD set has been issued previously in the JinP individual discs or box sets.
  15. Bol, since Sasson recorded at the time for Ducretet-Thompson and Columbia France, this may happen if/when EMI and Universal (Vivendi) merge. No idea right now what these companies are planning right now!
  16. Why be restrictive? I'm sure that Aloc who started this thread did not imply any smoking restrictionss. Cigarette, pipe, cigar or whatever are smokes. But a cigar is a cigar...
