  1. Kurt Mohr died several weeks ago. Met Kurt shortly after his arrival in Paris from Switzerland when I was still in high school. He was living in my neighborhood. Very knowledgeable and friendly gentleman who kept his youthful enthusiasm until the end!

  8. But.... exactly at the same time of the "official" reissue? Pretty sure the Jazz Track label had no idea that it would come out at the same time on Epic/Columbia France. The Diz&Bird Uptown robbery was a different matter since the Uptown disc was first released a while back, not fifty years ago!
  9. Why not? 'Drum Is a Woman' was recorded 50 years ago!
  10. The Lockjaw Davis with the Georges Arvanitas Trio album on Spotlite 'Chewin' the Fat' does not seem to have been issued on CD. Should have bought this when it came out! Too many good albums were popping up every day at the time! It was murder for the pocketbook

    Fred katz

Thanks for the link to npr! Fred Katz recorded a very interesting album for Decca in 1958 'Fred Katz and his Jammers'. His choice of drummers for the sessions indicate how good his taste was: Frank Butler, Billy Higgins and Lenny McBrown. Good solos from people like Don Fagerquist, Pete Candoli, John Pisano among others. Looks like the album has not been reissued yet!
  13. Waiting for the confirmation to the PM I sent.
  14. There's a book about that image The book includes a number of photos which were taken before and after the photoshoot. Quite a number of people can be seen enjoying a cigarette that day including Count Basie, Dickie Wells, Thelonious Monk
  15. Yes, Lyon had a good game last night and deserved to qualify. Played much better than Marseille. That team is a joke by now!
