Should also mention that I have met both Porcy62 and Big Beat Steve and was delighted with the encounters. Good people as were the other Organissimo people I have had the pleasure to meet (and I hope to meet J.A.W. too one of these days!).

Don't think there is a better source. If there is, I have not found it. If you do a search for Oscar Pettiford record dates, you get 394 dates with all available details. If you do a search for sessions led by Pettiford, you get 40 dates. 333 dates for Paul Chambers, 10 as leaders. It can be expensive but I find it worth the expense.

First time I heard Brotzmann was back in the summer of 1966 when he appeared with Han Bennink and Peter Kowald at the Comblain jazz festival in Belgium. One of the first concert appearances from the trio. To be honest, Brotzmann was not the reason I traveled to Comblain. The festival headliners were Benny Goodman, Stan Getz, Anita O'Day, Paul Bley, Barney Wilen and others. Been a fan since and I have a couple dozen albums. Listen to them via headphones (my wife can stand Ayler but not Brotzmann!).

Brownie, how is that Donaldson date? Looks like quite a lineup! The session was later released as 'Lush Life' It's a good straight forward date with Lou Donaldson having most of the solos space.

I'm sure there is confusion here between Tom Harrell and music journalist Tom Terrell who died today of cancer!

From what J.A.W. pointed out, he did not leave the forum because of one poster - he took good note of Porcy62's apology. He left because - to quote him - the insults/rudeness/name calling/mud slinging seem to have become part of what Org is these days and he didn't want to be part of that. Nothing childish about this. It does reflect on what goes on more and more frequently on the Board unfortunately.

The French RCA 2CD release from 1991 had a copy of the Jean-Pierre Leloir color shot of Art Blakey at the Club Saint-Germain with a blue stripe at top (similar to the original volume 1 vinyl album) on the front cover only. Volume 2 vinyl had a white stripe and volume 3 vinyl had a green stripe over the Leloir image. The 2CD release has a 6-page liner note in French.

Some odd pairings but I am not familiar with these wines. If the reserve Chianti is any good, I would not want to ruin it by listening to Andrea Bocelli. A classic Monteverdi would be required if music accompaniment is needed!

That looks like a great band. It looks great but the sounds disappoint. That's the type of band you expect so much and somehow the and results do not meet the expectations. Not really bad, but should have been so much better!
