  1. Cecil Taylor Complete Candid, LPs 1 and 2
  2. How not to take care of vinyls...
  3. Not a bad idea, although I doubt it will ever happen (Ubu's post just before this one is unfortunately too true). If miracle happens and MPS does one, hope they will include the Gulda/CT collaboration 'Nachricht Vom Lande' that came out on the Brain label!
  4. Friedrich Gulda 'At Birdland' (RCA Victor, mono)
  5. Kosma wrote only some of the score for 'Children of Paradise'. The film was made in 1943 and Kosma being jewish was not allowed to work in those WWII days. When released, the film score was credited to Maurice Thiriet.
  6. Allen Eager settled in Florida in the 60s and resided there until his death in 2003.
  7. Happy Birthday, Daniele Have a great day!
  8. Carnegie Hall Jazz Concerts 'October 1939' (Collector's Classics) with live music by Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Claude Hopkins and Benny Goodman and their orchestras

    Chris Aiello

Ladies and Gentlemen! Introducing Chris Aiello. Playing alto in June 2006. From the Chester, N.J., Observer-Tribune.
  10. Happy Birthday  to the two of you  You don't look a day older than 97!
  11. Dave Burrell 'Black Spring' (Marge) beautiful solo piano album!
  12. I was already a fan of Sonny Rollins when this came out and still remember the thrill of hearing the music for the first time. One could not help but be stunned by the level of energy. It was also the first time I got a shock from getting the sound of Elvin's drum work up close! There was much attention paid on his drumming those days (specially from Bobby Jaspar's enthusiastic reports after playing with Elvin in J.J. Johnson quintet) but the innovations mentioned became evident only after hearing that Village Vanguard album. Plus Wilbur Ware's incredible bass support. A desert island disc!
  13. Tal Farlow 'Chromatic Palette' (Concord) with Tommy Flanagan and Gary Mazzaroppi
  14. RCA did not provide full details of the various sessions on the original LP liner notes. Art Pepper does not play on the first session (also recorded in May 1960). Musicians on that session are: Shorty Rogers, Pete Jolly, Joe Mondragon and Frank Capp with a saxophone quintet (Richie Kamuca, Harold Land, Bill Perkins on tenor and Bill Holman and Bill Hood on baritone)
  15. Single CDs? There's this compilation also this Jazz in Paris CD has the session with Gérard Gustin, Jimmy Bond and Bert Dahlander:
  16. Rudy Van Gelder is still very active. He is recording various sessions including several for the HighNote label including this recent album
  17. Wish I could use one of those jammers when riding the Paris subways. The underground here was a safe haven from cellphone intruders until a couple of years ago. Now there are dozens of passengers chatting away at length during any subway rides. Yes, I want one of those jammers
  18. Abbey Lincoln 'Straight Ahead' (Candid, mono original)
  19. Nothing like that The scene was caught in the 60s. Different hairstyles (and attire) then! This was shot at the Square du Vert Galant on the western edge of the Ile de la Cité. Another classic kiss (by Robert Doisneau) at the same Square The Square gardien would have made sure that no improper conduct would take place between two ladies! So the photo on the new set is also by Doisneau? Nice photos, both! I thought so, of course (re: the ladies)... but then the guy definitely has something androgynous about him, no? No idea yet on who's the photographer who took the image that's on the cover of the '50 Reasons' CD. Don't think it's Doisneau!
  20. 'First Giants Steps' (RLR)
  21. I'm partial to Joseph Kosma's score for Jean Renoir's 'La Grande Illusion'. I'm partial to any of Joseph Kosma's film scores
  22. Nothing like that The scene was caught in the 60s. Different hairstyles (and attire) then! This was shot at the Square du Vert Galant on the western edge of the Ile de la Cité. 23. Ike Quebec 'Soul Samba' (BN, mono, NY label)
  24. Coleman Hawkins/Clark Terry 'Back in Bean's Bag' (Columbia, stereo)
