  1. Bobby Hutcherson 'Medina' (BN Classic series oiginal release)
  2. I live near Notre-Dame cathedral! This atheist just loves the sound of bells. Wish there were more religious celebrations to enjoy those sounds
  3. Wishing you a very happy birthday
  4. In the discography, I don't see any sessions with the Stan Kenton orchestra in 1954. Mariano played on a number of sessions with the orchestra that year. Also I don't see the March 1954 sessions with Frank Rosolino (from the Stan Kenton Presents series).
  5. I like that 'Fishing Cat Street', not far from where I live:
  6. Couldn't agree more: I just happen to use his nickname out of admiration. for the real one. Was lucky to have heard him live when he played with Lionel Hampton in Paris back in 1953. He was one month and a few days away from his 23rd birthday. I was one month and a few days away from my 14th birthday
  7. The Lord lists only three sessions (two on Columbia, one on Decca) with her. All vinyls!
  8. Mtume Umoja Ensemble 'Alkebu-lan Land of the Blacks' (StrataEast) with Gary Bartz, Carlos Garnett, Leroy Jenkins, Stanley Cowell, etc...
  9. Out this month is this latest batch of Chronological Classics: 1445 - Buddy de Franco 1949-1952 1446 - Count Basie 1953-1954 1447 - Erroll Garner 1954 1448 - Hazel Scott 1946-1947 1449 - Mezz Mezzrow 1953-1954
  10. The vast majority of the releases are quite familiar. However this one intrigues me: FNCJ 1002 Bass Talk Love Letter 2500 anyone know about it?
  11. I was under the impression that the raised rim trend was started after the success of sales of record changers... or am I wrong?
  12. Plus the music is not bad either My two cents...
  13. I'l pitch in for at least one recommendation: 'Frontier Traffic' on Konnex where Mariano has support from Ali Haurand on bass and Daniel Humair on drums. A terrific session
  14. Ben Webster 'Scandinavian Days' (Rarities)
  15. Interesting, just checked mine. Mono 50th St but no flat edge ! Should I send it back for a refund? Those Prestige flat-edge are a mystery! I knew about the BN vinyl mystique but did not realize that Prestige had this too until jazzhound started his thread yesterday. I was not aware that I owned several of those.
  16. Oh boy! I should get to all the vinyls of that old avant-garde music I accumulated when I was listening to that stuff back in the sixties. There might be a small fortune after all in those albums
  17. Attack??! I'd hate to see this place become something where you can't correct someone misspelling a name without getting back foul words. Correcting spelling in general and correcting spelling of names are two very different things IMO. Well said! The attack on J.A.W. was totally inappropriate!
  18. Vanity Fair has timely, well-written articles, but the magazine is mostly adverts and clashing scents. Tina Brown, who did her best to wreck The New Yorker also had a go at Vanity Fair. Very true! What got to me about this list is that it was selected by editors of the magazine. Damn! if editors from a rather sophisticated publication can't come up with a more thoughtful list, then we do have to worry about the current state of what is supposed to be culture in the USA these days
  19. Robert G. Pettibone gives February 14, 1953 as the recording date with Bill Harris and Chubby Jackson, including the tracks C-Jam Blues, Jive At Five, Tutti-Frutti, and Sue Loves Mabel, released by Norgran EPN-7. Anyway, I'll have to add this recording. December 14, 1952 (with a question mark) is the date given for this session in Michel Ruppli's 'The Clef/Verve Labels, A Discography' book. Anyway welcome here, Hepcat! Will check further on this Mariano discography. He is one of my favorite players
  20. Maybe I am wrong, but to me modern 'Vanity Fair' is a magazine based on sensational, though accurate and well written, interviews and stories about the Star System, occasionaly they had some investigative strong stuff. I couldn't see any 'culture' in it. Vanity Fair did publish some interesting stories several years ago. I was mostly reading the magazine at the time (and still do occasionally) to have a look at the photos from Annie Leibovitz!
  21. I have several more flat edge 50th Prestige: John Coltrane 'Coltrane' Sonny Rollins 'Plays for Bird' Jackie McLean 'Lights out' Not searching any further...
  22. Sonny Rollins 'Plays for Bird' (Prestige, mono, 50th adress, flat edge!)
  23. My copy of 'Relaxin' With the Miles Davis Quintet' is a flat-edge vinyl. Fom the same series 'Cookin' is not flat
  24. I'll pay more attention to that Samba del Mar CD from Dusko. It pops up pretty often in the shops here! Thanks for the recommendation!
