  1. Gil Coggins is also listed as the piano player with the Lester Young group on one of the Prez broadcasts from Birdland in June 1952. The session which first came out on one of Boris Rose labels (Ambrosia) was also included in the Prez box issues
  2. Another MIA Barry Miles 'Scatbird' on Mainstream, different from 'White Heat'!
  3. 'Laser Wizard' on Statiras (also Progressive). 1985 session.
  4. Tough! Real tough! Good thing: there was no physical damage. Next lesson: large sums of money don't belong at home but at banks. That's really what banks were made for!
  5. Hot Lips Page 'After Hours in Harlem' (Onyx) with Joe Guy, Rudy Williams,Tiny Grimes, Donald Lambert
  6. Garth, can't get enough on McKusick. However the interview has been mentioned in this thread last week: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...amp;hl=mckusick
  7. I was wondering... Who's Lester?
  8. Milt Jackson 'Soul Pioneers' (Prestige, mono, blue label)
  9. I should pull mine out more often. It's all rusty by now
  10. Give me a better way of getting rid of all those banknotes from Old Europe
  11. Give me a better way of getting rid of all those banknotes from Old Europe
  12. Ubu, that's the original cover of the 'Soul Pioneers'! The later cover was this one
  13. Paypal contribution done!
  14. There's 'Soul Pioneers' with Horace Silver and then there is the session with trumpet player Henri Boozier, Silver, Percy Heath and Klook that is on an earlier Prestige album where the session is one side, with the MJQ on the other side. Great version of 'Opus de Funk' there!
  15. The one on Stanley Turrentine in Lees 'Friends Along the Way' was not too bad either!
  16. Jimmy Woods 'Conflict' (Contemporary, mono, white label promo)
  17. Joyeux Anniversaire
  18. Don't care where Clem contributes as long as he keeps going on here. He is one of the most interesting (and challenging) contributors to this board. And Jim A. if you need money to keep the Board going, how about starting a thread about it? I'll gladly contribute!
  19. You mean A.B. Spellman's 'Four Lives in the Be-Bop Business', one of the great read about jazz. The book concentrated on Coleman, Taylor and Herbie Nichols and Jackie McLean!
  20. Don't think there is any jazz content on those but John Lewis is more than an interesting musician
  21. Another very strong recommendation for the Savoy sessions with Lucky Thompson Don't overlook the two albums he recorded under his name for Prestige. Both are really excellent! And a strong case could be made for a Mosaic Select that would have the various albums he recorded under his name for Atlantic!
  22. I have the Hodges, but have never heard of the Royal. Details please! Me bad! Meant Gordon Jenkins, not Welk! How could I confuse those two
  23. Indeed! Happy Birthday, John
  24. Welk also made a couple of fine albums featuring Johnny Hodges on one and Marshall Royal on the other!
