  1. No significant differences except on 121 Bank Street, which is listed as 5:55 - checked on my player to be sure - 5:54 there. Have checked on the actual length of 121 Bank Street. The vinyl track clocks in at just under 5:55 too!
  2. I was going to! I have rarely been disappointed by Bley!
  3. Charles Mingus 'The Complete 1959 Columbia Recordings', disc 1

  7. From The New York Times today.
  8. I have yet to listen to 'Solo in Mondsee' but judging from previous experiences, I'm much more a fan of the albums Paul Bley recorded for Owl (Tears, Homage to Carla, Partners, ...) than the ECM ones. Not to mention the trio sessions with Jimmy Giuffre and Steve Swallow. All great Bley music from the past twenty years.
  9. Martial Solal 'Himself' (PDU) Solo Solal!

    Martial Solal

Damn right, Bentsy Martial Solal was deadborn on August 23, 1927 in Algiers. A few slaps had him out of the stupor a few minutes later. He has been very much alive since and keeps going... An amazingly young 80 he is now. Joyeux anniversaire, Martial!
  11. The Shorty Rogers Atlantic box, LPs 3 and 4
  12. That Jimmy Owens horn is the same he had on the cover of the 1967 Atlantic album 'You Had Better Listen' Owens is credited in the liner notes to the original vinyl as playing trumpet and flugelhorn!
  13. This was picked up from French TV. I videotaped the show too. The music was released on A&M as The Paris All Stars 'Homage to Charlie Parker' The concert from the videotape was held on June 14, 1989 at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris. Earlier in the day, all the musicians (plus Billy Eckstine) were at the French Culture ministry offices to be made Officers of the Order of Arts & Letters. The music on the released CD came from the folllowing day concert. I attended the medals presentation. Most impressive gathering of jazz greats I attended!
