  1. They have inverted the musicians' list. The group with Priester, Boswell and the Turrentine brothers plays only on the wrongly titled Kardouba and Stop Motion (AKA Juliano and La Villa). All the other tracks are played by the quartet w/ Jordan and Perkinson, plus Abbey Lincoln. "Long As You're Living" is wrong as well. It's "Lonesome Lover". The 1960 concert with the Turrentines and Priester was at the Alhambra theater on February 6. The Paris concert with Abbey Lincoln, Clifford Jordan, etc... was at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées if I remember right. Exact date was January 18, 1964. I was a delighted listener at both concerts!
  2. Don't miss "Land's End" and "Delilah"! Working my way slowly and delightfullee to those
  3. The Complete Clifford Brown on EmArcy box Playing various favorite tracks from the Max Roach-Clifford Brown group!
  4. It was 25 years ago to the day.... From the AP today:
  5. Louis Hayes - Junior Cook 'Ichi-ban' (Timeless) with Woody Shaw, Ronnie Mathews, Stafford James, Guilherme Franco
  6. Previous search for Leeway
  7. Thanks bichos for giving us the good news about this release. Looks however that there is no Clifford Brown solo to be heard on that volume 1
  8. chewy, Albert Ammons played piano with Lionel Hampton's big band around January 1949 (took part in at least two Hampton record sessions for Decca. Never heard that Alto LP but doubt that Ammons was on it. Lionel Hampton is supposed to be the featured piano player on 'Hamp's Spectacle'. Wes Montgomery was indeed the guitar player with Hampton in December 1949/January 1950. Other notable players in the band at the time were Benny Bailey, Al Gray, Benny Powell and Jerome Richardson (on alto).
  9. Amazon.fr has the 1956box coming out on October 25 Trésors du Jazz, volume 7
  10. This does not look at all like the tjobbe I had the pleasure of meeting several months ago during one of his business visits to Paris!
  11. Max Roach 'Plus Four' (EmArcy, mono, original) the first Roach LP I bought decades ago!
  12. Wouldn't that be ironic The same Warne Marsh material was first issued in Japan by Venus records on the CD 'Ornithology' which included one additional tune 'Of Love and Things', a Marsh composition, that is not in either of the Storyville releases!
  13. That Warne Marsh in Copenhagen was issued by Storyville a few yars ago under this guise (same content):
  14. Looks like Storyville is recycling their live recordings from Copenhagen. All four 'new' releases have been out on Storyville before!
  15. The Seven Ages of Jazz (MetroJazz, mono), discs 1 and 2 a 1958 concert presentation with Brownie McGhee, Willie 'The Lion' Smith, Buck Clayton, Coleman Hawkins, Billie Holiday and others
  16. Oh my god! Merci Now I'm familiar with that extravagance!
  17. That's standard policy with Lonehill. They usually have a second LP included to fill in the CD space when they reissue a single session. The bonus tracks on the 'Wailers' reissue are the Buddy de Franco quintet sides (with Tal Farlow and Sonny Clark) that were originally issued on the Calliope LP 'Sessions, Live'.
  18. Medjuck, does this read right? ... or should we read 'good food'?
  19. Don Byrd - Gigi Gryce 'Modern Jazz Perspective' (Columbia, 6-eye, mono)
  20. Never heard it, does it whort a research on used vinyl shops? Nice title anyway, though I am much more selective then Mr. Hartmann Save your money for worthier sessions. This was not one of Hartman's best. Strange that he did excellently with Impulse then the two albums on ABC were somehow disappointing. The 2 LPs are now available on a Gambit CD if you really want to check!
  21. That's the way I have heard it pronouncd! And remember 'Ahmed' should pronounces ARRRHMed!
  22. Johnny Hartman 'I Love Everybody' (ABC, stereo) with studio bands led by Jack Pleis and Olivier Nelson
  23. I agree - except there are 7 Verve LPs and two RCA Victors, and at least an LP's worth of unissued material - looks like a big box to me. MG The Andorrans are taking care of those Hodges/WBDavis:
  24. From Billboard.com
  25. The Complete Art Hodes on BN box, LPs 1 and 2
