  1. From the great Jim Flora...
  2. J. J. Johnson 'A Touch of Satin' (Columbia, 6-eye, mono) a quartet date with Cannonball's rhythm section (Victor Feldman, Sam Jones, Louis Hayes)
  3. J&R going the way of Towers? That's really sad news! Must have spent a small fortune at the store which I visited every time I was in New York. It was the best-stocked jazz records department of the city!
  4. Titatichou already replied to this. To elaborate, the 'Live in 1960' CD is a boot of the Verve album 'In Person' and even has the same photo by Lee Friedlander on its cover. It also adds the four tunes from the February 25, 1960 Paris concert (with Jim Hall and Wilford Middlebrooks) that were included in the Jimmy Giuffre Live CD from Trema that I'm sure you already have
  5. Jimmy Giuffre '7 Pieces' (Verve, French reissue) with Jim Hall and Red Mitchell
  6. Lon, thanks for the clarification! I should check the Mosaic website more often!
  7. To the best of my understanding, you can add to the wish list only sets which have already been released and you want to order them in the future. This is not for special requests. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Bentsy, you're right! Should have cheched first. Have registered on that list now and yes it's for the Mosaics sets you're planning to order. Might be a good idea for Mosaic to open a real 'Wish List' where people could suggest future projects!
  8. Max Roach Quartet 'Pictures in a Frame' (Soul Note)
  9. Joyeux Anniversaire, Bertrand Hope to see you in Paris soon
  10. I did not realize that '7 Pieces' had not been reissued on CD. It's one of Giuffre's best album. A folksy happy-sounding album which was reissued on vinyl in a replica version by Polydor France in the early 80s when they got hold of the Verve catalogue. Polydor reissued most of the Giuffre material on Verve at the time. The sound (recording engineer was Bones Howe) is superb, better than on the Atlantic recordings. A complete Giuffre Verve box would be one of the better Mosaic future releases. Since the Mosaic website now has a wishlist, it's time to make good use of it!
  11. Can't argue with a birth certificate
  12. Please remind me the name of this famous building in Manhattan. Bentsy, to repeat myself: it is the Flatiron Building!
  13. Barney Kessel 'Feeling Free...' (Contemporary) with Bobby Hutcherson, Chuck Domanico, Elvin Jones
  14. The Gerry Mulligan Sextet (Jon Eardley, Bob Brookmeyer, Zoot Sims, Mulligan, Bill Crow and Dave Bailey in a TV appearance during their tour of Europe in the spring of 1956: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyiA4LQq1XE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV8r41lGHlY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k0FS3VszT4
  15. John Lewis 'A Milanese Story' (Atlantic, mono, white sample copy label) with Bobby Jaspar, René Thomas, etc...
  16. I'm a fan too! Previous Joe Maini thread!
  17. Wikipedia may give 1907 as Hodges' birthdate in one place, it also says 1906 in another: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_25 Wikipedia France also says 1906. I'ld be tempted to go with that year. In the liner notes by Stanley Dance to the two Mosaic Hodges sets, Dance gives 1907 as Hodges' birthdate but goes on to say that Hodges was 13 when he was introduced to Bechet. Bechet was in England in 1920. He had left the USA on June 1919 and only came back in November 1922. I rest my case! 1906 it should be
  18. It's a photo by Chuck Stewart. From the same series:
  19. The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Complete Solid State, LP disc 3
  20. Herb Hall appears on several tracks of this recently reissued CD by Sammy Price from the Jazz in Paris series Good Paree
