  1. Happy Birthday to the Blue Note Kid
  2. From what I remember, Barclay used their Prestige collaboration to release ten-inchers only in the '50s! La Voix de Son Maitre which took over the Prestige distribution in the early '60s released twelve-inchers with local made covers and pressings.

    Barney Wilen

Yes, Patrick gave the go-ahead to the 'Sentiers Qui Bifurquent' release and then changed his mind! Hope we will see these discs some day. On another label?
  4. To follow up on previous posters, now playing: Kenny Dorham 'Matador' (United Artists, France, mono) the French issue had a very nice shot of KD by Jean-Pierre Leloir!

The Wilen family (actually Barney's son) was not involved in the 'Sentiers Qui Bifurquent' CD release! The 'Estate' seems to have a very close look at anything that is connected to Barney Wilen these days!
  6. I'll second that! Very good showing

If you have that 'Le Jardin aux Sentiers Qui Bifurquent' CD, hang on to it! There won't be any more in that series. The Wilen 'Estate' forbade the release of the other albums

There's a new Barney Wilen coming out next month on the Impro label. A Paris 1983 concert with synthetizers! Click on Impro
  9. The announced reissue of the Futura album 'From In to Out' by Dizzy Reece with John Gilmore still has not materialized!
  10. Roy Haynes 'People' (Pacific Jazz/Toshiba) with Frank Strozier, Sam Dockery and Larry Ridley
  11. Love that record! That's one album that becomes even more beautiful at each spinning! Now playing another classic: Barney Kessel 'The Poll Winners' (Contemporary/King Japan, stereo)
  12. Happy Birthday Joyeux Anniversaire
  13. Happy Birthday And many returns!
  14. The Don Friedman VIP Trio 'Timeless' (Eighty-Eighty)
  15. It's listenable but nowhere near essential... Kenny Burrell's vocalizing skills do not match his guitar-playing ones! I like Bobby Jaspar's flute playing on this date. This was the main reason I got the vinyl reissue of this session.
  16. Just as good and thrilling was 'Straight Ahead, a sort of companion piece to 'Screamin' the Blues' with the same crew but without Richard Williams! Roy Haynes' drumming on those two was outstanding! Also on Prestige/New Jazz.
  17. The Complete Bud Powell Verve box, disc 3
  18. He has not posted since his previous birthday Happy Birthday wherever you are
  19. Stan Getz Presents Jimmie Rowles 'The Peacocks' (Columbia)
  20. If we have to have a Mary, let's have her by Sandro Botticelli
  21. Very punchy. One of the best sound of the Prestige vinyls! My copy has spun a lot of times and is still pristine!
  22. I prefer 'Leroy Walks!' to 'Leroy Walks Again!!' but this one also has Teddy Edwards plus Freddy Hill on trumpet. Not that many records featuring Hill! If the price is right...
  23. Jack Teagarden 'Big 'T''s Dixieland Band' (Capitol, mono)
  24. From The New York Times today.
  25. No fresh releases so far but they have taken care of putting some of their earlier releases back on the market, which shows in the well-stocked Classics bins in several record stores here.
