  1. This superb video was visible for all to see last week in the Colerman Hawkins thread
  2. 3. VERY fishy indeed. Specially when one reads this extract from a newsstory in The Ottawa Citizen today: Does not look like injuries sustained by somebody who 'tripped or fell, and fell down and hit the curb” face-first'.
  4. Wynton Kelly 'Someday My Prince Will Come' (VeeJay)
  5. Henry 'Red' Allen 'Live at the London House Chicago' (Fanfare)
  6. It´s Sandy Block on bass, according to the MilesAhead Charlie Parker Discography. When in the Ornithology world, things get to discographical matters I tend to stick to the Gospel according to Robert/Leonard/Norman (Bregman/Bukowski/Saks, that is!). In their invaluable Charlie Parker Discography, they say it's Jack Lesberg on bass. I'ld hate to be told this Gospel is inaccurate
  7. A very Happy Birthday, Jim All the best to The Best
  8. Jack Lesberg is the bass player enjoying all this. Dick Hyman was on piano.
  9. When I started working in the news business with the company where I spent most of my adult life, the company was located in the Paris offices of the New York Herald Tribune just off the Champs-Elysées and one of Herald people I often ran into was Art Buchwald. Buchwald was also a regular at the Berri Bar which was on the building's groundfloor. The HT, now International Herald Tribune, moved to chic suburban Neuilly and even if the Berri Bar still exists, it's just not the same. Caught this news item which I found exhilerating news! The man's spirit is still way up there! From Editor and Publisher:
  10. True. I have that one. But: I think they sound will be better on this release. And I think very few people have ever seen the Yadeon cd. I've only ever seen two copies in total in all my Miles scourings since the late eighties. The sound on the box has got to be better. Currently listening to that Yaedon CD. Saw a copy only once. It's the one playing now
  11. Looks like the eight 'unissued' titles that show up on the new box have all been issued before on the Yadeon CD release 'Rare Unreleased Broadcasts With John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Bill Evans'. Nothing new under the sun
  12. Bad news for Hilton Ruiz. Looks like he was assaulted while in New Orleans... From The New York Daily News today...
  13. Paul Bley Trio 'Touching' (Debut Denmark) with Kent Carter and Barry Altschul
  14. Duo Piano concert I would have loved to attend Review in The New York Times today.
  15. High hopes for that as well. I have a great deal of this material via the two Columbia 2-CD sets and the Chronological Classics, but I'll bite on this set the week it comes out. It's gonna be a happy holiday season... I'm happy with the idea of having Mosaic box the Small Group sides but I was really hoping to see the full Orchestra sessions from the same era being released first. Been wishing for that one for years! Have all this material already (on French CBS vinyls, Classics, CD, etc...) but the sound on those does not do justice to the glory of the music! Hope Mosaic will rectify this!
  16. I'll be looking for that one, mainly for the cover. Been a Flora fan for years. Hope the music will be of interest. I'm worried about the drumming
  17. Zoot Sims 'The Innocent Years' (Pablo) with Richard Wyands, Frank Tate, Akira Tana
  18. I'm having the same problems Damn, those BaldwinStreet releases have been so hard to get hold of
  19. This is the regular link: http://www.baldwinstreetmusic.com/ It does not mention any sales...
  20. The loonies have really taken over Verve music dept. With all the available material laying there, that's really meager choice. In the meantime, Lonehill is doing the job that Verve seems to avoid embarking on! Got their double CD 'Jimmy Cleveland Complete Recordings'. Great reissue.
  21. Was under the impression that John Snyder took extra care of his products. If he did not make it back to the original tapes, does it mean they are lost?
  22. Challenging duets with Ornette Coleman settling in through the energetic support of Haden. Haden is excellent throughout but the results might have been even more interesting if Scott LaFaro had been in on bass! I have the vinyl album of this. With its gatefold cover, eight page booklet (with Ornette and Haden discographies)and a couple of charts. Nice albums from Artists House those were!
  23. Another photo of Maurice Rocco: Photo taken from this webpage
  24. Al Cohn/Dexter Gordon/Barry Harris/Louis Hayes/Sam Jones/Blue Mitchell/Sam Noto 'True Blue' (Xanadu)
