That Dexter Gordon SteepleChase box is one of those must have sets! With a very high and very consistent level of playing by Dexter.
I'll second the listing of the Nights at the Keystone music that was gathered on the Mosaic Select.
And add the Xanadu jams that came out as 'True Blue' and 'Silver Blue' that had Dexter pairing with Al Cohn, while Blue Mitchell paired with Sam Noto.
I have not read the book and don't think I will...
I have not seen the movie and don't think I will until it shows up on cable TV (probably next year).
That Da Vinci craze is ruining my visits to the Louvre museum. I go there pretty often and used to stop by Da Vinci's 'La Gioconda' to see how the old girl was doing but nowadays this has become impossible what with the crowds massing in front of the painting.
Most of those people manning small cameras to show their friends back home they went there and went past La Gioconda!
The same crowds that flock to the Saint-Sulpice church on the Left Bank for the past few years since the church is another landmark that is part of the story. The church was an island of tranquility until that damn Code came into existence.
Personal memory of the Saint-Sulpice church: it was the place I saw Duke Ellington and his orchestra for the last time when the Duke performed one of his Sacred Concert there in 1969.
The article Bertrand referred to as it appeared in today's 'The Washington Post'.
Bertrand is mentioned in the article.

Paul Quinichette 'On The Sunny Side' (Prestige, mono, 50th St.)
with Curtis Fuller, John Jenkins, Sonny Red Kyner, Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins, Ed Thigpen
I stood on the edge when Allenlowe made interesting offers on that one. But when I saw the box in one of the record shops here I bought it on impulse!
The selection is absolutely first-class and brought new insights on the early stages of the music we love.
There was 'United 93', next at takeoff queue is 'World Trade Center'.
'WTC' trailer
I have never been impressed by Oliver Stone's cinematography. I rate him as one of the most overrated directors doing films nowadays.
I'll probably skip that one!
The Vogue session with Nat Peck, Wade Legge, etc... was recorded on February 22, 1953.
The Salle Pleyel concert date (sans Peck) was held on February 9, 1953.
Willie 'The Lion' Smith 'The Lion Roars' (Dot, mono)
The Lion plays and reminiscises (in conversation with Leonard Feather), with Wendell Marshall and Osie Johnson added on several tracks
Filled up on the missing numbers from the Duke DETS and the Art Tatum live series plus the Red Mitchell/Warne Marsh!
Total went well above $50 but the free shipping did not apply to non-US residents, as was carefully stated.
But found the shipping cost was less than $2 per disc which looked quite reasonable.
Many thanks to Ghost for letting us know about this!
The video was lifted from the Jazz 6 series that jazz critic (and also novelist) Philippe Adler hosted every Monday night on the French M6 TV channel until the show was discarded in 2002. The M6 logo in still present!
I videotaped a number of the shows including that Hawkins one!
I still have the original Virgin copy with the inside liner notes. The least played album from the JCOA series. Probably time for a reevaluation!
Doubt it ever made it to Richard Branson's hits list either! But he had the guts to release the album
Blue Mitchell 'Big Six' (Riverside/Victor Japan, mono)
with Curtis Fuller, Johnny Griffin and that superb rhythm section of Wynton Kelly, Wilbur Ware and Philly Joe Jones!
The Champions League final match turned out to be spirited with lots of fast actions and various sequences that kept the game very much alive with the two teams giving all out.
Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann's ouster early in the match changed the spirit of the match. The referee's decision was very harsh but justified. Arsenal was reduced to ten players for the rest of the match and the decision was even tougher on poor Robert Pires who had to leave the field to let Arsenal bring in substitute goalie Almunia.
Ronaldinho did not manage to score but Barcelona could count on veteran Henrik Larsson to mastermind the two goals for the team.
Catalan fans had good reasons to celebrate Barca's 2-1 victory.
Arsenal players could also leave the field proudly.
