  1. ... and stays there!
  2. Sad news! An original voice is silenced!
  3. J.J. Johnson 'Really Livin'' (Columbia, mono, 6-eye) with Nat Adderley, Bobby Jaspar, etc...
  4. Uhhh.. I don't think Marty was available to take part. Uhhh... indeed! Meant his family and friends, of course -_-
  5. If you're talking about First Steps, I'll be looking for your impressions on that one
  6. I like that album! Have an original copy (Liberty label), unblemished by any cutout! Vince Benedetti is not the most inspired pianist and he is recorded up close. RVG who is credited with having rerecorded the session must have tried damn hard to attenuate the piano sound! Too bad producer Francis Wolff could not get Kenny Drew or Tete Montoliu for this session!
  7. Got hold of an edition in French of the DiscMedi comics book 'Tete Montoliu Plays' with drawings by Gani Jakupi and music selections (2 CDs) by Miguel Jurado. The French version goes under the title 'Du Blues Dans le Noir' (Blues in the Dark)! Very interesting book that I can read without problems Could not find any mention of this French version on the DiscMedi website!
  8. I don't mind the grunts - as long as we keep Keith Jarrett out of this thread... Obviously helps Nadal to build up his amazing power! Same went with Monica Seles, she grunted even more than Nadal! That young man is always a pleasure to watch! I wish him luck at Wimbledon!
  9. The LoneHill/Fresh Sound catalogue is a jazz fan dream. They are releasing a lot of albums that the original labels slept on (Phil Sunkel, Johnny Williams are new examples). Obviously the musicians are also taking part in the reissue program and are collaborating with the gathering of the material. Take for instance the recent Marty Paich FS release 'Paich-ence'. The CD gathers the full 1955-56 studio sessions with complete information on personnel and recording dates (with updated details not available elsewhere).
  10. If you mean the French were luckier, fully agree If they had been in that group C, they would end up fifth
  11. couw, don't shortchange those Ivory Coast Elephants! Oh yes, this is a killer group. Obviously the toughest. Whoever fails to qualify for the second round should walk out with a proud head!
  12. Claude Williamson 'Blue Minor/Dedicated to Sonny Clark' (Bopland)
  13. Holland defeated Serbia-Montenegro 1-0. Not a bad match but the Dutch team will not be a match for Argentina if Argentina plays more games like the one they did yesterday against Ivory Coast. Not really in the same league. And Ivory Coast may be dangerous to those Dutch players!
  14. Don't have any regrets with the various Mosaics I purchased. As far as I am concerned, Mosaic's worst decision was abandoning their vinyls
  15. Lee Morgan 'Vol. 3' (BN, 63rd cover UA disc )
  16. Gigi Gryce refered to Pannonica. Source, the invaluable book Rat Race Blues
  17. 34 thru 38 are included in the recently reissued 'Boston Blow-Up' Capitol/BN CD: Chaloff was not heard on 'Chasin' the Bass'.
  18. In France we have horsemeat vendors (a disappearing breed): A former Boucherie Chevaline still open in central Paris. It has been turned into a Boulangerie but keeps the venerable sign!
  19. This match was like a soccer revival meeting to renew the faith in the religion of Football! Argentina looks like the strongest team so far. I was sorry to see Ivory Coast defeated. They have enthusiasm indeed but their defense seemed a bit confused! Great game!
  20. Pretty inconclusive that England-Paraguay match! It started pretty well for England but then neither them or Paraguay managed to get it together. England turned out to be pretty lucku with that 1-0 win! Looks like Ericksson, the english coach, and France's Raymond Domenech are out of the same school! Still looking for that Argentina-Ivory Coast match this evening in the hope of seeing real exciting soccer!
  21. Porcy62, I agree with you (except I wonder what Chairman Mao's position would be on the World Cup ) You may get a view of live TV coverage from BBC on this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/w...006/4852606.stm Have not tried this yet and not sure you will be able to get into a full TV coverage. In France we're lucky, since three of the regular TV channels (TF1, M6 and CanalPlus) carry live coverages of all those WC matches! Good luck!
  22. Chewy, I hear ya! No wonder Madonna is a fan of this!
  23. Among many essential - but too often overlooked - albums for fans of Kenny Dorham: recorded at the Club Saint-Germain in Paris recorded at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco
  24. Enjoyed the opening match! Six goals in a WC opener is a good sign that the tournament will be lively! Surprised at the weakned of the German defenders. Klinsmann has some last minute adjustement to make. But those German attackers are dangerous even when Michael Ballack remains off the field! The Costa Ricans were a good match. Wish J.A.W. would post his impressions on the match! Saw only part of the Poland-Ecuador game which was a bit dull with neither team really worthy of World Cup participation. I will be looking for that Argentina-Ivory Coast game this evening. Wonder where the Argentina team stands nowadays? Specially their 19-year old boy wonder Lionel Messi!
  25. Rahsaan Roland Kirk 'Kirkatron' (Warner Bros, Germany)
