    claude delcloo

You sort of summed up my impressions of Delcloo. A forgettable drummer and figure from the French free jazz scene of the late '60s. He sort of disappeared after being involved with the Actuel sessions and has not been missed by the people who were in touch with him at the time. There were better drummers around in France then. Not a musician I would waste time on...
  2. This Sunday was the final day of the 'Cézanne et Pissarro 1865-1885' exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay. The final show for this exhibition which had been on view at the MOMA and at the LA County Museum of Art before. Went there with my wife and we managed to get there early to beat the crowd. Beautiful show with quite a number of Pissarros we had never seen before. Also Cézannes. Feel very much at ease with the Pissarros but you can seen Cézanne develop his craft during those years! One of the best show we had seen in years!
  3. I guess that "facinating" might be one way to describe his character. I'll bet that people who had dealings with him might describe him in other ways. Paul, fully agree... but sharks can be pretty fascinating creatures too!

  14. I'm another one of those who tried to stick to vinyls but had to give up when the record stores aliminated their vinyl sections. Gave up the fight in the late '80s. First CD purchases were the Swedish Tax CDs of the Count Basie Orchestra 1954 concerts in Stockholm. Then came those Japanese BN discs with additional material. Could not resist!
  15. Yes, good additons to the list, brownie, but if we are including only primary instrument baritone players, would you say Perk should be there? I would have thought tenor his main instrument. But I will put him in pending further guidance! Perkins played baritone on a number of albums but, yes, his main instrument was tenor. Now that I see what you had cooked for your BFT meal, I feel sorry at having stayed out. Looks like a mighty fine compilation

  19. The Christie's catalogue for the Chan Parker Collection auction says the following about the Grafton cream acrylic plastic saxophone: 'the saxophone given to Charlie Parker in circa 1950 by an Englishman and used by him at the Massey Hall concert... ...Although Parker is primarily associated with the King saxophone, he used this Grafton sax on more occasions than the Massey Hall concert. Chan recalls him playing it at the Open Door on May 9th, 1954 and he also played it on at least two other documented occasions.'... Charlie Parker playing the Grafton sax at the Open Door with Monk at the piano:
  20. I bought that Dexter Gordon box from 2001. The exchange with the outfit was done in english. Once the language problem has been settled, everything went as well as it could. The shipment came in very fast (not so sure it's will be as fast for the shipment to cross the Atlantic). Found their service excellent. I am making more purchases from them!
