  1. 'According to the UBS simulation, further results will be as follows: Germany will lose to Argentina in the 3rd round and Italy will beat France at the same stage.' The news that Italy is going to take revenge for the France-Italy match of the 1998 World Cup is ruining my day Hope Ghana beats Italy in the final
  2. Thanks for linking the review, Fernando Could understand some of it. The main thing is that Griffin looks in great shape and very much alive and kicking!
  3. Italy will win the World Cup, according to the Union des Banques Suisses analysts. Wanna bet?? I like the final paragraph from the ever-cautious Swiss...
  4. Jim, must have been potent stuff at the dentist!! At the dentist ??
  5. Jimmy Giuffre Three 'River Chant' (Choice)
  6. Those jazz signatures do not look right. I have autographs of Count Basie and the one here looks like a bad imitation. The Louis Armstrong signature is not even close, here is a genuine one: http://www.galleryofhistory.com/archive/7_...O-ARMSTRONG.htm And the Benny Goodman signature looks very much like the Armstrong one! Also the Miles Davis signature does not look like the ones I have seen. Maybe Christern could help here. I'ld stay away from that item!
  7. The Paris Jazz Corner website is selling hundreds of Chronological Classics, including CDs that have not been available for a long time. The sale is starting this week. More items will be added in the next couple of weeks. All those Classics CDs are priced at €10 ($12). Items available on opening week are here
  8. The Satchmo Legacy Band 'Salute to Pops - Vol. 1' (Soul Note) with Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Alvin Batiste, Kirk Lightsey, Al Casey, Red Callender, Alan Dawson
  9. An original copy of this album reached $4,260 on eBay recently. The sales was mentioned in the Vinyl Frontier forum a couple of days ago. Front and back covers are visible here
  10. Well there were billions of munitions and other weapons on the Verdun battlefields, with plenty still being found these days... As far as I am concerned, I have had enough experience with wars and got rid of all the items relating to them! And I don't miss them a bit!
  11. Aggie87, how did you and your friends manage to bring those artifacts home? Taking away those type of souvenirs from the WWI battlefields was forbidden, I believe. And clearing customs with an old rifle was trouble even in the early 80s!
  12. From the ContraCosta Times today:
  13. JimS already explained MG yesterday how to do it!!
  14. Oh yeah!! Horace Now playins: Horace Silver 'Further Explorations' (BN, 47W63)
  15. The title of this thread makes me sick Can't The MG - or somebody else - fix it and give back Griffin his good health!
  16. Randy Weston 'The Modern Art of Jazz' (Dawn) with Ray Copeland, Cecil Payne, etc...
  17. This thread makes me feel sorry I did not purchase the Cyrus Saint-Clair CD 'Little Big Horn' that was released by Verve France several years ago. It was part of the short-lived 'Jazz of the '20's - Hot and Rare' series that had several albums mastered from transfers from the incredible collection of 78s by French publishing magnate Daniel Filipacchi, who started his career as a photographer for Paris-Match before becoming publisher of 'Jazz Magazine'. I have the Duke Ellington CD from the series, also a compilation (with sides by the Kansas City Stompers, Clarence Williams, LeRoy Tibbs, Elgar's Creole Orchestra, etc... )that started the whole series. The sound on both CDs is pretty amazing and makes me long for the numerous 78s I had in my youth! The Cyrus Saint-Clair album is pretty hard to find these days. Alapage lists it as unavailable My Webpage I'll also try to locate the Charlie Johnson twofer from the French RCA Black and White series I have somewhere!
  18. Pretty good obituary in The New York Times today:
  19. Enrico Pieranunzi with Hein van de Ghein and André Ceccarelli will be appearing May 24-26 at the Sunside, Philippe Catherine and his trio will be at the Sunset May 26-27. Christian Escoudé to follow. Will let you know further if anything interesting comes up! Trust you will have time for a bistro meet!

    Martial Solal

Please read the first post of this thread. Daniel A wrote about his Vogue recordings. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=17964&st=0 The Jo Jaguar total output consists of one 12-inch album plus one EP. Never heard those. They have never been reissued. Somebody who heard them told me not to bother. There are easy listening pîano sessions. Guess Solal would be mightily embarassed if they were reissued now.
  21. Happy Birthday Johnny Griffin Hoping there will be more birthday celebrations for the Little Giant!
  22. The Jazz Messengers 'A Midnight Session' (Elektra, mono) with Bill Hardman, Jackie McLean, Sam Dockery, Spanky DeBrest and Art Blakey!
  23. Curtis Fuller 'Two Bones' (BN King, stereo) with Slide Hampton, Sonny Clark, George Tucker and Al Harewood
  24. The session has only been issued in mono sound. It's one of two Bill Evans sessions recorded in mono only for the label and appears in original mono on The Complete Riverside Recordings vinyl box that was released in 1984.
