Need a rec on a very good guide-book for Paris
brownie replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Dmitry, Paris record stores were discussed a couple of years ago. The thread is still valid! http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...1&st=&p=entry When in town, give me a call. I have an excellent folder 'Paris Records Map' which has just been been published. It lists a lot of good stores and includes convenient maps. I'll drop a copy for you if you give me an adress when you reach the city. Bon voyage! -
yes, but the CD booklet to Pep's Volume TWO gives the June 29 date, which according to your listing should have been June 26. ← I'll let you figure it out. Don't have those discs...

The 'Brilliant' Bill Evans was released in 1990. It has three tunes (in excellent sound) from the 1980 club date in Bad Honningen, Germany and eight tunes from a club date (Rome 1979 according to the liner notes) by the Evans trio with Marc Johnson and Joe LaBarbera. Very good sound too from the Italian government-owned RIA broadcast company! Not really as good as the Paris Concerts albums from the same time but well worth purchasing. Release probably not authorized!

Got my education on Gladys Knight from Cecil Taylor who is a big fan of the lady!

Happy Birthday Hope you'll have a great day. Lot of excellent music to listen to!
-
Great day to celebrate one's birthday! The other sessions are not bad either (check the Legrand Jazz album, it's Magnifique!)!
-
And Mosaic should not have released the set as The Complete Illinois Jacquet Sessions. That 'Don't Push Daddy' is not bad at all by the way, it just shows Jacquet running out of inspiration at the end of his solo and being stuck on a one note spin! Have this on the French Aladdin vinyl 'The Complete Aladdin Sessions Illinois Jacquet' that was put out - with some help from Michael Cuscuna - in 1983 by Gilles Petard, the man responsible for the Chronogical Classics series.

Hank Jones - Red Mitchell 'Duo' (Timeless)

At the FNAC on the Rue de Rennes but they had a very meager range on sale today. Less than fifty CDs plus DVDs there. Don't want to disappoint you but I'm pretty sure all the stuff is gone by now. And they don't make a big thing of the jazz sales. Had to ask for the items on sales to find the small display!
-
But can you read Japanese ?
