  2. Off Ghost's topic but is it really accurate to say that 52nd Street had "Fallen" by 1950?
  3. I just got an email headline from the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the Gov. lowered the age to 50 this morning (I was hoping he'd stick to five year increments instead). To my shock and amazement, I was able - practically instantly - to book Moderna for Monday evening at the Publix nearest the house, with follow up also auto-booked for April 19. Unfortunately, neither I nor my mom's home helper have been able to get her booked, and Publix doesn't even have Lee or Collier County available in their pull-down menu. Will have to keep working on that.
  4. If I were in charge those names would be under consideration but even though my wife says she has no ideas yet, they aren't going to get much consideration.

  6. Cute but is it really plausible someone singing that tune doesn't know it? I could see it going down like that on American Idol, maybe.
  7. So I am starting to get deeper into this as I need to figure out if I can afford to pay someone with what I have raised (just over $500) or can even find a freelancer to get it done for a fee in that neighborhood. I reached out to some companies, no dice, no way they'd be that cheap. So I suddenly thought of Craigslist. I've encountered two people so far. First says he's cheaper than all the rest, no hourly rate, flat fee, blah blah blah. I send him email describing what I want. He texts back a couple of times and finally says $200. Keep in mind that his lowest cost option for businesses is a "one page presence" for $199. I say, for everything I want? Can you send me a link to something similar you've done? He says LOL I won't jump thru hoops for $200. Then my phone rings. (I told him not to call during work hours.) I decline. He calls again. Decline again. Now he texts: Pick up your phone. (Pro tip: don't tell a potential client what to do.) (Also starting to feel like this guy sends texts like that to his girlfriend.) Now he texts me about how I am complaining that its too cheap? Well, yeah, I think you'll do some BS job for $200 that I could figure out myself. Finally told me to go waste someone else's time. Gladly, pal. Second guy seems a bit more professional and understanding, but his offer is $1000, 1/2 up front 1/2 at launch. Now I just need someone willing to do the work and make it good, for closer to $500 than $1000.
  8. I was not a fan and therefore I have only categorized him as the guy with a sock on his schlong.
  9. I continue to have a nearly-impossible time wrapping my head around the fact that Flea might be something more respectable than the guy who performed with a sock on his shlong.
  10. And apparently the EU is keeping AZ vaccinations on ice even longer? And that's based on 37 instances of clots per 17 million doses? I also was reading that each day without vaccinations would lead to a certain number of deaths - like 10,000 not vaccinated one day, 15 would die eventually. Even if that were 100,000 vaccinations not done in a day = 15 deaths, that's way the hell worse odds and results than 37 instances of clotting out of 17 million doses. Mind-blowing and as much as our European friends worried about the deaths and suffering in the US, I'm afraid that we're going to be as close to normal in the coming months (as normal as can be expected) and the EU is going to still be suffering.
  11. https://www.discogs.com/Mary-Osborne-Marian-McPartland-Vi-Redd-Lynn-Milano-Dottie-Dodgion-Nows-The-Time/release/6190077 Yeah, there are two more releases as Dorothy Dodgion per discogs (both 1970s Ruby Braffs) and they don't connect her to Dottie as another name she used.
  12. Yes that is the unisex term for less than a year old. Filly would gender-specific, as colt would be if she were male. They become yearlings (unisex) after first birthday. Here's another shot taken this morning but without the sun streaming, to get a better view of her coloring. You can see how the black hair at her neck is less thick than it looked like on her first day. Fortunately no matter how sweet she gets, I don't let myself get so attached to the babies as to not want to cash in on whatever price gets negotiated. Edit to add: It really astonishes me to even try to imagine how this thing was folded up inside her mother a couple of days ago. As big as she looked before birth, it doesn't seem possible she would fit.
  13. That is sad news ... not enough recognition but a fine player and composer.
  14. Hadn't heard the name before but curious about the book. Amazon shows it as available right now and eligible for Prime shipping. Yanow's biography on allmusic says she has made "many" appearances on record but discogs only shows four total? Maybe a different definition of "many".
  15. One good thing from Day Light Savings: perfect light when momma leads baby out to the middle paddock.
  16. BBS reminds me of a CDR-only mix I once made, and shared by request with a member of the board, inspired by Cuscuna's description of "sons of Sidewinder" tunes that had to be included on subsequent recordings: Sidewinder and Sons
  17. It's been a source of friction that my wife went so deep into horse breeding as an imaginary source of income, but the babies that result are definitely a fringe benefit!
  18. Apparently those joints signify a rather large future for her. Momma should be happy she came out a little sooner than expected.
  19. Born yesterday morning. Name TBD, lots of interest in purchasing from her horse connections on FB, according to my wife. (It's a she, by the way.) That black hair on the neck is hardly there a day later - she's going to be pretty much pure "leopard" colored Apaloosa.
  20. Probably doesn't help that, apparently, vaccine hesitancy is worse in the EU than it is in the US. That surprised me, seeing it this morning.
  21. Not quite in the 80s but very early 90s. I transferred a lot of LPs to cassette for car listening and then I started wanting to program excellent comps to keep the pleasure-level high. I also brought these tapes into the tennis shop I was working at in 91-93 or so, to keep the work day swinging. I tossed those tapes before the last move to our current home but I would say, especially given the time period and where I was at in collecting, that the cassettes very heavy on hard bop. (At the time my mother had a side-business promoting antique shows and she thought it would be a nice touch to play jazz over the PA system of the Field House during buying hours. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to program 3-4 90 minute cassettes for her, but this only lasted a couple of hours on the first day of that show, as apparently the sound of drums coming from overhead led multiple dealers to think that their merchandise was falling off the shelves and to complain to her about it.)
  22. Optatio you ruined my chance to go with "half a mother fucker".
