Thanks to Mike Weil (and MG apparently being on one of his internet breaks) I get to feel a little like Duke Ellington. See I won't have to wait for October to get feedback on my latest magnum opus; like the Duke, I get to hear how my brilliant compilation strikes my listeners ears (almost) right away. Just under 80 minutes of BFT goodness, no theme - but plenty of grease as usual. So what's your preference, download or disc?

How Long Has It Been Since You Had A Barbershop Shave?
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Does it count if you got the hot lather/straight razor treatment on the neck, after your haircut? This would have last taken place in 1997, in Tallahassee at the Seminole Barber Shop a block from the stadium. So traditional they still had Penthouse magazines to flip through while you waited. They must have offered the full shave service but I never thought about getting it, even though I really loved the feeling of the heated cream and the scrape-scrape-scrape. -

If MG doesn't mind, great. I'll be ready.

Guess it depends on when in April I have to get her moved. If its the last two weeks, I wouldn't be able to get everything set up on the usual schedule. Can we ask MG just to leave it as is?
-
April is actually iffy, Jeff. At some point I have to move my Mom to Florida, when that will happen is up in the air, she has to actually close on her house sometime in March. But that may mean two weeks that I am not able to post any sort of response ot guesses. I guess we could play it by ear and see when mom decides to move.

And I just called dibs for the next opening if anyone can't meet their obligations. I gotta get my shit together fast ...
-
Yeah he's old but he looks ... hardly old at all.

Can I call 'dibs' on any BFT that a compiler can't meet his obligations, between now and October when I am back in the saddle? Been working on my sequencing so I'd be ready to go on short notice if anyone has to back out in the coming months.

OK, now the same thing is happening on my work computer, which is Windows 7 Professional (home is XP). WTF??

Last couple of days, View New Content has ceased to function. Since no one else has posted I guess it must be something unique to my system. But it comes up empty even if I choose the "last month" filtering option, when at least that should bring up threads I haven't been looking at. When I go to sub-forums to see what is new, nothing is new - meaning there is no button to go to the first new post, even though there are new posts. I look at the time of the 'last post' and that tells me if its new or not. Even then I have to scroll down the last page to see what is new. Very weird and rather aggravating.

Tom clued me in but I'm not gonna add anything to what he's said.

Wow. She looked much more human in 2002 when the featurette was filmed. A tad heavier and actually still human-looking just unnaturally younger than she is/was. Now she just looks hideous.
-
Sorry for the late post, Tom - unfortunately I got nothing to add as no tracks jumped out to me with obvious candidates. I did like the idea of repeating familiar tunes back to back. OTOH, as a general rule, flautist = meh, at least for me. Thanks Tom and I am looking forward to a few answers - 8 and 10 for sure, and 5 for it being such a WTF track.

Was it my imagination, my changing tastes, or a reality that she lost weight/got skinnier as the series progressed? Don't remember but if she did, the weights come back with a vengeance. I just finished watching the featurette on the series, and I'm not sure if she still qualifies as attractive, the cosmetic work done is just too obvious. Charles Haid has had a lot of work done, but he wasn't too attractive to begin with. FWIW, Season 3 doesn't have to be streamed for $1.99 an episode. Hulu.com has each episode, and you could watch all the episodes for $7.99 for a month's membership. Or if you can devote the time, you could use their one week free deal.

Thanks everyone.....50...... arrrggghhh............. No I'am NOT that happy with the Sox roster, but look on the bright side, they didn't win with the roster they had last year! Any happier now? At least there's no Bobby V.!   (I doubled my usual quotient of smileys; the usual three are for you, the rest are for Bobby V being gone.)

Happy Birthday Victor Christensen

Totally agree, Jeff. Definitely Mobley-esque. Thanks for sharing.

I may be wrong but my understanding was that after the BN recording, Horace took the front line and Blakey took the name and control of the band. If Silver was on the date with Byrd in the front line then maybe it was still a co-operative at that point.

Albums it took you a while to start enjoying
Dan Gould replied to JazzLover451's topic in Recommendations
Eric Alexander. He sounded so young and fresh and different and I couldn't find my way in. Then I figured out he was ripping off George Coleman and it all clicked. -
Who said Bill Evans couldn't play the Blues?
Dan Gould replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Just to clarify, does "I personally prefer Gene Harris, Junior Mance, Wynton Kelly among others" mean that you prefer their Blues playing or all their playing, over all the playing of Evans, not just his Blues playing? When many of us congregated on the Blue Note BB, I was known as the Gene Harris Fanatic. So, yeah, I prefer all of their playing over the playing of Evans. I have little use for pianists who don't bring a lot of blues to their playing. So to the above list you can add Kenny Drew too. -
Who said Bill Evans couldn't play the Blues?
Dan Gould replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I haven't heard it but I think the question, to those who aren't big Evans fans, is not whether he can play the blues but whether he does play the blues. That is, does the blues form an integral part of his style? I'd say no and that's why I personally prefer Gene Harris, Junior Mance, Wynton Kelly among others. YMMV, and probably does.
