Well from a competitive perspective, I heartily recommend sending Joba away.

Now that made me laugh out loud but it sure looks like the Yankee bullpen may be in serious trouble. Aceves may be out for the year with a bulging disc, and Robertson came out of this one with an apparent back injury. They brought Gaudin back and he's clearly not the answer having given up a solo homer today and gotten knocked around in his other appearances. At minimum the Yankees have to get Joba fixed. If Robertson is out for any length of time, its Katie-bar-the-door time. They'll be relying on the starters to get it to Mo, or else on the bats to bludgeon the opposition.

Because Met arrogance is only slightly less acceptable than, I don't know ... Washington Generals arrogance? The Yankees have nothing to do with it. Except for the brief time between October 2004 and October 2009 there wasn't much I could hold over the Yankees or their fans. The Mets, on the other hand ... That's funny - because I've genuinely enjoyed the vast majority of this century. You on the other hand are in the midst of a long and miserable run that shows no likelihood of ending.

Knee surgery for Coltrane - again!
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well today was the day the stitches came out, and the doctor said she was very pleased with his progress and that his X-rays looked fine. Its definitely been a long process of recovery, as it took a good week for him to start to use his injured leg consistently and even now he still perceptibly limps and hops on the other three legs about 5% of the time. And two more months with restrictions on his movements and no stairs, so he will continue to be the sole customer of the Daddy Taxi Service. Also on the positive side is that Gracie is handling his absence much better, with almost no howling, just a lot more clinging. Amazing how she went from snapping at him when we first got her to not being able to stand to be apart from him. -
This happened toward the very end - he was supposed to administer the coup de grace momentarily when the poor beast made the lunge and hit his mark.

There are plenty of cool videos like that on youtube (and lots of bullshit computer game videos that are dishonestly labeled). One of my favorites is the landing approach on (I think) some Caribbean island. There's the ocean, about 50 feet of beach, a two-lane road, and then the runway, and these big-ass jets come through. Too bad I didn't bookmark it. One bookmark I do have is this animation, with tower communication, of the Miracle on the Hudson. Its pretty damn cool.

I was under the impression it was recorded in NY but regardless, it was arranged for Hank to sit in with the Montoliu trio as a "try-out" for Hank to determine if Steeplechase was willing to offer him a record deal. They were not, and when it was issued on CD, they determined that "Autumn Leaves" was the sole cut worthy of release.

What's your point? Just this month, and apparently related to the suicide of his mother, her kid killed himself. Apparently he didn't get over it, even if it was eleven years ago.
-
Indeed. And seeing this news led me to another link and I found out that Dana Plato's son, the kid whose conception led to her being fired from the TV show, committed suicide himself earlier this month. Now that's a sad family story, too.

The Red Sox have won 7 World Championships in the last 106 seasons, which is once every 15 years. The Mets have won twice in 47 years, once every 24 years. So despite all of that "futility" they still win more championships more often. In those 47 seasons of shared existence, the Red Sox have two world championships, five pennants, six division championships and seven Wild Card berths. 14 out of 47 seasons they played in the post-season: Once every 3.4 seasons. The Mets have two world championships, 4 NL pennants, 4 division championships and two Wild Card playoff entries. 7 out of 47 seasons did the Mets reach the playoffs. HALF as often as the Red Sox. Thanks for playing.

Nothing was directed at you, Brad, and I can't imagine why you would think it was. Jetman runs his mouth against a team that has embarrassed the Mets over the past several years and is clearly superior this year, regardless of a three-game fluke, then he runs his mouth against my team, which is a really ballsy thing for a Mets fan to do. In every way - historically, here-and-now, current player development and front office - the Red Sox are the superior franchise, and I'm not going to take shit from a Met fan who thinks otherwise. So, if you think otherwise, and want to say so, I'll direct some your way. But you didn't, and I haven't. And beyond that, is there anything I said about the Mets that isn't accurate? Do you wish Steve Phillips was still GM? Are you proud of the current GM or the buddy he protected, Bernazard? You're taking the reasonable approach - enjoy some long awaited good fortune and see what happens. Jetboy thinks the Mets can print playoff tickets. And let's not forget who went for "ignoramus" and "dick". The guy who is supposedly the master debater.
-
Yeah, a war of words is a terrifying thought coming from a Met fan and a Jet man. I don't know if there is anything in the world sadder than that. Strike that - an arrogant Met fan and Jet man. Must be something about that NY water.
-
Oh, you want me to try to be a dick? Where can I start? Front office: Steve Phillips, hired and retained even though he had started his career of serial carousing and sexual harassment. Not to mention being one of the worst GMs in the history of the game, a man who couldn't get himself hired by any baseball team anywhere after the Mets finally fired him. Tony Bernazard - anyone care to remember that world class asshole? How about the current asshole GM, who had the gall to try to blame the Bernazard mess on a NYDN reporter, and despite having such a huge payroll can't seem to figure out how to make a roster that can do anything but collapse in September - if they get that far? Anyone think he'll ever get another baseball job after the Mets inevitably fire him? How did that Pedro Martinez signing work out for ya? Red Sox looked at the same medical records and said "no way will he last four years". Mets gave him a four year deal and he lasted a year and a half before breaking down. And that's a helluva stadium they built - more of a monument to a totally different franchise (the Brooklyn Dodgers) than the actual franchise that calls it home. And they couldn't figure out that "Obstructed View" seats don't really work in the 21st Century? And they can't even maintain interest in their new park - they played to 92.7% of capacity last year, only 79% so far this year. Can you hear me now?
-
I don't know, maybe because we've made the playoffs every year except one since 2002, not to mention winning two World Championships in that time? As opposed to, say, blowing seemingly insurmountable September leads in back-to-back years? You want to cling to 1986? You think that makes the pathetic Mets somehow superior for all-time? Talk about an ignoramus.
-
Enjoy the momentary success. The Mets don't have a chance in hell of making the playoffs. And the Phils are two-time defending NL champions. You're awfully mouthy for a fan of a team working on a streak of three straight "disappointing" seasons (and one predictably bad one this year), with the worst GM in the game and a manager more likely to be shit-canned in September than working on his playoff rotation.

Creating a volume-equalized CD from flac files?
Dan Gould replied to neveronfriday's topic in Audio Talk
It won't do it very well if you have a single sound file with a mix of levels/types of sound. What it will do is apply the same boost across the whole file based on the highest peak it finds. So I would split up the files into component parts, then use the batch processing to apply the Volume Maximization. Then if you had to, you could bring the parts back together into a whole. Or don't use batch processing, select each segment and maximize it individually. And here's a trick I've used that I bet a lot of people would frown on (Allen especially): Sometimes I transfer LPs where the inputs aren't terribly high but there are isolated drum hits that will severely restrict the effectiveness of the Volume Maximization. So, I will isolate the drum hit, carefully lower the amplitude so that its still prominent but not as prominent as it was, then boost the whole file. Dropping the drum hit down gives you "room" to do that. Or, sometimes there will be a powerful drum hit at the start or end of a song, and I will leave it intact and only select and boost the rest of the track. What can I say, I like a strong signal on my CDRs. -

Did Mosaic make a blunder....

They'll almost certainly arrange for a pick-up by the shipper so you will have no further costs. -
I need to pay more attention. For a time there I was really digging into Albert King's pre-Stax recordings.

A quick (personal) update ...
Dan Gould replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Great news indeed! -
Unfortunately I've given up on ever seeing any of the "to be posted" episodes (like the "Blue Note Show"). The same shows have been listed that way since 2004.

Funny thing is, Sting still doesn't swing. Thanks for the link, that was fun.

Well I went with "douchie" but really, in the absence of Axe body spray, tats, Jesus bling and other signifiers of choad, can we really conclude anything but that male antelopes are just like male humans? And yes, I am a fan of Hot Chicks with Douchebags. The site, not the combination. -

So, when the hot girl tries to leave, the guy does whatever he can to make her stay, then puts the moves on her. More here.
