  1. Johnny is pretty much a squatter in the political threads, too, (excepting the times that he is promoting his band's efforts) so I hope Bixie wasn't tossed for having political views that don't jibe with the overwhelming leftist tilt of most O-people. I'm going to assume he went too far, got a few warnings, then got shitcanned for something other than the content of his political beliefs.
  2. Don't forget I also hypothesized that he might be a friggin' loon.
  3. Yeah, but in practice, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nID8wS5Gnlk...
  4. I think Goody was tense because of Chuck's shot at him. Or of course it might be that he's a friggin' loon. Going after Conn and Aggie and not making a bit of sense anywhere.
  5. Guess we're lucky Bird took some time to work on that tone.
  6. This CD is really 27 minutes long?
  7. Happy birthday and better luck next year for the Metropolitans!
  8. You'd really prefer to re-sign a guy whose OPS+ was 82? Wouldn't his defense have to be good enough to cover SS too to make up for that? And he's heading into his age 31 year and he'll probably want three or four years on his next deal. Beltre was a bad signing then, doing it again should get a GM fired. YMMV of course.
  9. Well I'm glad you're pleased and excited. A few observations: Isn't Beltre done (finally) and isn't that a good thing? (Can I interest you in a possibly broken down Mikey Lowell? ) The Mariners remind me of the Tigers, so you better hope they don't have the roller coaster ride Detroit has had lately. The odds are not remotely in Aardsma's favor that he has somehow turned a corner. If he somehow keeps throwing strikes, maybe you've lucked into something. At least he's under team control, I'd just seriously wonder what it is the team controls. Bringing back Sweeney and Junior (as a DH platoon, I assume?) runs a substantial risk of catastrophic age-related decline.
  10. Because I read them once and then have no trouble not noticing them afterward.
  11. Glad you enjoyed that track; a particular favorite of mine. To be honest, I'm not sure Chuck ever worked with said tenor... though I'd be curious to have his thoughts on said tenor, once all is revealed. So I guess I'm right that its someone who tends toward the A/G in a more restrained performance.
  12. Personally I don't understand how a signature could have the effect of beating someone over the head; when I read new posts I scan to the next one anyway and find it quite easy to not pay any attention; its just useless verbiage, like Goody's posts.
  13. I don't participate much even when I commit to these, but I am curious about track 6. Tenor started out sounding like Dex but I realized its not. Definitely enjoyed the track. Could it be a relatively straightahead performance by someone that Chuck recorded?
  14. Lester pitches Game 1, Beckett pitches Game 2 and in what I think could be a huge mistake, Buchholz goes in Game 3. Now, if Francona announced that Dice-K goes in Game 4, that's fine - assuming its going to take at least four games, the order that you use your 3 and 4 starters doesn't matter. The thing is, Francona didn't announce that Dice-K would start Game 4, in fact he specifically mentioned the possibility of Lester coming back on three days rest and Beckett going in Game 5 on regular rest. With Buchholz sucking for his last two starts and Dice-K pitching quite well since his return, why make a crucial start like Game 3 in a five game series to Buchholz? Makes no fucking sense. Dice-K in his last three starts: 1.96 ERA in 16 1/3 innings Buchholz in his last three: 7.98 ERA, 13 ER in 14 2/3 innings. There is no way to avoid using Buchholz if they reach the LCS but after two horrid starts in a row - five home runs allowed to Toronto, 6 ER to Cleveland - why entrust Game 3 to Clay when Dice-K has pitched better than he ever has in a Red Sox uniform?
  15. Oh thanks for letting me know, I hate paying dues in multiple organizations. Now kindly keep your dumb ass political shit where it belongs.
  16. Let's not forget how lucky A-Rod was that he got that opportunity to hit with the bases loaded: If Sonnanstine doesn't drop the nubber for the easy out at home, he doesn't even face Mrs. Leigh Texeira and walk him to get to A-Roid the Fraud. Indeed! Yay! More fodder for the SI cover jinx too. I hope this puts Mauer over the top for MVP, since there are some voters who insist that a team make the playoffs for a player to be considered. Let's just hope that by the same token, Verlander doesn't take votes away from Grienke just because he came up big in a must-win final game situation. There are a lot of idiot sportswriters who are going to vote for Verlander - or Sabathia which is even worse - for Cy and Jeter for MVP. As for my team, I am glad they got the Indians for four at the end and that the rain didn't wash any games out. 95 wins and a playoff berth are Theo's stated goals, so I'm glad they reached that level, even as it tells me that with just a bit less bad luck and frustration, like Wakefield pitching three times after the ASB and that brutal loss to Baltimore, this team could have easily won 100. And how about Jacoby Ellsbury? First full year as a starter in CF, he provides strong defense and becomes only the eighth player in league history (sorry I didn't catch if that was A.L. or MLB) to steal 70 with a BA of .300. He also ranks in the top five for multi-hit games, and after his early season OBP struggles, once he was returned to the top slot, he OBP'd .370 or so. If that's what we see going forward, the only thing missing in his game is power, and everyone seems to agree that's the last thing to develop for a player like that.
  17. This made me google the title to find the lyrics - Clarke is listed first as composer with a couple of other guys. But here is the funny thing - This lyrics website references CCR, yet AMG doesn't list CCR as having ever recorded it, and of course whatever the similarities it doesn't look like Fogerty ever made a copyright violation claim. So WTF is up with that site. Anyway, TK, you can get the lyrics at that link - at least I think they are close to accurate.
  18. Yeah but its still going to come back to "glass houses/throwing stones," as foolish as that may be.
  19. Why on God's green Earth is MLB Network broadcasting this "I Breathe Baseball" show with that walking & talking asshole Yankee fan? That's a freaking YES production if I ever saw one. There are millions of Yankee haters out there and surely in the top three reasons why they hate the MFY, Asshole Obnoxious New Yorker Fans is one of them. With all of these promos they are running, do they really think his ugly ass face (not to mention New YAWK accent) is going to find any viewers outside of the tri-state area?
  20. What can you expect when they used a rookie starter who, if I remember correctly, hadn't started a game in three years at any level? Maybe its best if the Tigers just finish blowing it tomorrow and we can pray that somehow, someway, the Twins, as hot as they've been, can actually beat the Yankees in the post-season - even though they never did with Santana on the team and the Twins have no Mourneau either. It did occur to me that with the extra days off, Verlander could go tomorrow and start game 2 Friday on regular rest, then come back to start Game 5 on short rest if the Tigers can somehow extend it that far. But either way this is a dream ALDS for the MFY. Either they get the Twins, who never give them any serious trouble, or they get the Tigers, slumping horribly and without being able to have Verlander pitch twice in the first four games. Or maybe, just as eventually the Angels are going to beat the Red Sox when it counts, maybe this is the year the Twins beat the Yankees against all odds? Boy that would be bittersweet. Much better to advance at least one round further than the MFY.
  21. Guess I'm a cold-hearted bastard. I only wanted to hear the first guy through to the end, voice + guitar.
  22. Like that. The wife was an employee, too, and their relationship was long-standing, or off and on for a period of time. You don't think she knew about his extracurricular activities with other staff members before the marriage? As I understand it, the relationship with the woman who was involved with the extortionist ended with the birth of his son, which in turn pre-dated the marriage ceremony with the mother of his son. So ... my strong suspicion is that Dave hasn't been sleeping on the couch since he told his wife about the extortion attempt. I don't think any of it was news to her. The threat was more about his public image - which ties back into the possibility that some of these affairs weren't consensual. If CBS decided to fire him, then his world would come crashing down around him.
