MLB 2023: how ya like it now?
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Which, just two years ago, each lost over 100 games: Diamondbacks, 110 (and tied with the 2023 AL East Champion Orioles that year) and Rangers, 102. Either of those accomplishments is pretty remarkable, but both squaring off in the World Series two years later is downright ridiculous. Something to say for warmer weather when it stretches into November. -

A little bit of the dude who got drilled (and won MVP for the series) is going a long way for me. A little more pimping and I'll be rooting for the NL team to drill him a time or two. Lucky that he stole 2B after that long single. If it weren't the playoffs I'd like to see an informal suspension when shit like that happens. My 2c. -
Boney James would be a worse signee (YMMV) but Volume 1 sounds like a threat to me.

and with Scherzer on the mound I am presuming. If he can come up big, who knows. -
Like I said there is a ton of music from that gig, some tracks are repeated but for all I am sure of they could be different performances entirely. I was listening to Truly Wonderful and it is indeed truly wonderful.

I did not know (I don't think so) that Live at Rick's came out on CD and it looks like more music, too. Guess I have to go on the hunt. Edit to add: Actually significant differences in track list, and per Discogs, the LP has her on organ? Anyway for additional tracks I need to figure out this CD issue for sure. Editing again to add: They must have really recorded all of these three days of gigs ... I discovered or was reminded of Truly Wonderful, also recorded at Rick's. And I am disturbed to say that my transfer of the original LP isn't leaping out of the shelves. Would be nice to put together a single MP3 disc of all the tracks by this group at Rick's that have been released.

Hoping for pitching to show up for the final dance whichever way it goes. And I am not sure about Texas' park but it really seems like both Philly and Houston play like total little league dimensions. And the Phils are impressive but not quite the same advantage having won at home. D-Backs can still make this a series. -

I'll take the odds needing to win two out of 5 with next three at home. -

Definitely enjoyed waking up to Altuve's blunder. The funny thing to me was that he was straddling the base he could have easily dragged his toe across and he wouldn't have been out. Glad to know too that these are reviewable plays. I question why the ump admitted that he was watching the outfielder and couldn't know if he had touched the base, run past it, or what, yet me makes a call. Aren't they trained nowadays to seek help? The 1B ump probably had a good enough view to help make the call. -

I am trying to find a source for top 25 rankings as of December 3 or whatever, with records included. Not coming up as easily I'd hoped. Not convinced a two loss team could end up 12th in final poll after conference championships. -

I forgot to take credit - I turned on the Dodgers in the middle of the homer inning, saw #2 and #3 and when #4 was confirmed foul, knowing Lance Lynn's issues this year, I said to my wife, watch, he'll give up another anyway and next pitch ... gone. <green obnoxious smiling emoji here> -

But I just read Scherzer is a strong possibility to return! That could be awesome if he's the guy he was for 8 starts after the trade deadline. -

Cord-cutting is going to kill the gravy train of huge rights deals for major sports. That was the purpose of the latest battle between Disney and Spectrum over fees. If ESPN was hugely profitable, Disney wouldn't be trying to sell it. And all the streaming services are failing to deliver profits, too. Cable companies were the cash cows 10 years ago with millions of non-sports fans not even knowing that their $120 cable bill included $20 or more for sports networks they never watch. (We switched to a company that my sister-in-law found and pay $50 every six months and I get every MLB broadcast and could if I wanted watch every NHL, Basketball and NFL broadcast too. Hiccups with streaming is a small price to pay against that bargain.) Regarding the results in MLB to date I am with Jim, I wish Houston was bounced first over LA (and seems likely, the Braves) but with them still in I fear another championship is in the cards. Really need the Rangers to bring it, and I guess the Phils as back up. -

I always thought utilizing the bowl structure for a tournament made sense - (as in, all games in January or January/February) but count me out for the idea that a 2 loss team could make it to the National Championship. If it were limited to 1 loss teams then nobody is on the outside looking in. -

Has there been a decision to go to 8 or 16 teams? I actually thought top 4 facing off meant being crowned National Champion meant a little bit more and not having teams on the outside with legit claims bitching anymore (though anywhere you draw the line, you get teams on the outside looking in). So, mark me down for four team playoff but I think I'd draw the line at 16 teams or 8 teams. -

It was about money from the start of setting up divisions. This is just one inevitable probably-not-final outcome. -

Glad the Rangers finished it and get to rest a little - no muss no fuss. Hoping Minnesota makes them go 5 as I imagine it takes Verlander out of game 1 of an ALCS if Houston advances. And very curious to see how the NL goes from here ... but probably not curious enough to watch much or any of the games. -

I still like the Phil's chances coming home for two. That park gets incredibly loud, I am told. (I turned on the game and saw the homerun in the 7th, and flipped back right after the game winner in the 8th, but didn't anticipate such a finish and stayed away from TBS after that.) -
I got a copy of that record probably about a year ago. Very strong backing for the unknown leader. Definitely enjoyable though I want to say that Sharpe doesn't play on all tracks.

Not pretty but if you build a six run lead it's really hard to blow in one inning. The O's needed to do what they did a second time to actually matter. -

I didn't have three road wins on my bingo card for last night, but shaking up the expectations and making the favorites work for it would be a nice thing to see. -

Ouch. I tried to keep it not personal but here you go with the dagger in the heart. 🤔 What's this, a bullpen game that the Rangers give up only one run over the last 6? And on the road? -
I have to admit I don't expect too many hits on one of Tim's BFTs as his ears are so much wider than mine but if I jump in with my comments, good, bad or ugly, maybe he'll return the favor come January. Track 1: The backing was OK but I wish something else was the main soloist over it. A trumpeter here might have made this more appealing to me. Track 2: This is much more in my wheelhouse ... I always fail to ID Clark Terry so I've decided to go with him. Track 3: OMG two in a row! Jackie McLean from the part of his BN career that I enjoy. Track 4-5: Not for me. Track 6: A good 'un; no guesses but I preferred the trumpet to the tenor. Track 7: Not an instrumental combo I look for ... Track 8: I feel like these are good players (trombone and trumpet) stuck recording in the style of the day - fusiony/electronic - and a style that thankfully stayed in that era. I am certainly uninterested if anyone is trying to recreate it now. Track 9: Not a piano trio that holds my interest. Track 10: pretty but no guesses. Track 11: Pseudo Trane and honestly Don't Know Don't Care doesn't express my distaste. Is there a story being told here? I don't hear one that is for sure. Track 12: Hrmmmm. I couldn't help but dig the groove. I didn't want to like it but sort of can't help myself. So ... mark me down for 2 and 6 and to a far lesser extent #12. Thanks!

Well that worked out perfectly then, the Brewers are out and my friend at the 'O' isn't bothered by it. (Insert old Green Laughing Smilie here) Elon doesn't like your link.
