  1. The Hints: Track 5: The earliest recording by either of the musicians was 1981, per discogs. Track 6/Track 10: I stated that one soloist is repeated on the test and these are the two tracks. Track 8: Buddy Tate's backing band ain't 'merican. Not sure if more to come, but there's a start.
  2. I knew it looked familiar. Didn't that album get a reissue as part of a two-fer, and this album cover wasn't used? Either way Gale Sayers had pretty good taste.
  3. Excellent interview, in two parts: http://flophousemagazine.com/2023/08/16/king-queen-pt-1/#jp-carousel-6851 http://flophousemagazine.com/2023/09/18/king-queen-pt-2/ And below, a photo of Elvin Jones and Alvin Queen. Queen was a young teen at the time which by the description in the interview must have been early 60s.
  4. Hints coming up - by end of weekend - to see what else can be swept up after #1, scat singer = soloist brought up Pony Poindexter.
  5. No way am I going to post a WWFL on this one ... I think what I am leaning toward is about 50/50 for John's seal of approval.
  6. I better pick exceptionally well then. Thanks gents!
  7. I've no doubt they can be set to boost that signal for you, as well as any other area you may have lost acuity on. but the question of whether it also boosts tinnitus noise as well, making it worse,, is an open one. If there's a Sam's near you, you could get an audio test and see, and test how current models do, in about 30 minutes or less. Mine cost $1900 including standard warranty (1 year). I believe three months to be certain you like them or you can return for full refund.
  8. YUUUCCCHHH.
  9. So .... would anyone object, strenuously or otherwise, if I evened things up between Feb and March and got two contributions in? Kinda like compensation for doing the organizing?
  10. Actually those internet gadgets with bluetooth connectivity do have the ability to customize by frequency at least by the commercials I see. Whether to the extent of hearing aids that are marketed for retail sale give wider control, I do not know. It's possible Mike that your hearing loss is past the ability of the OTC gadgets to help. I am actually very curious if Bresna goes forward as our uncle on my wife's side has terrible tinnitus and says that his awful hearing will not be helped by amplifying that sound. His wife, Sue's aunt, bought $150 online aids and is very happy with the effect. They are of limited means and spending for high-level aids is pretty much out of the question.
  11. I don't know from ultrasonic gizmos. My first hearing aid was with a chain-employed audiologist who was an insurance client. He used thin tweezers and it was quite an interesting sensation as clumps were puuulllllled away from the ear canal. Second set was at a Sam's Club, same knowledgeable qualifications but they don't allow their audiologists to remove wax due to liability concerns. I used an over the counter droplet/flushing for a while and then discovered Walgreens walk-in clinics offer that service. It turned out to be some sort of nurse practitioner who used a water pic and a bowl I held under my ears to blast off the remainder.
  12. I agree with Mike that consulting an audiologist is the best course, but in the States now, decent quality hearing aids are available "over the counter" (or seemingly mostly "over the internet"). A smart deregulation move IMO though they are not recommended for anything past "moderate" hearing loss. An audiologist can also advise you on wax buildup that may need clearing before you get your ears checked. My ears generate copious amounts of wax requiring (at the time) the application of OTC drops and flushing to help remove.
  13. Yeah I am holding out for the Kenny G dinner/lesson/private concert. I'm less likely to embarrass myself by barfing on my hosts.
  14. Another way would be to find an option amongst Amazon's copious download options at 99 cents per.
  15. DING DING DING. Glad I didn't have to add "ex-pat" as an additional hint. And now I realize Jim thought this was a game of Concentration and provided a photo of a pony. I think I would have gone with this instead. So both of you get credit. or for the full Concentration effort we'd have +
  16. ????
  17. I didn't even know their larger group efforts included a vocalist. First clue of the month then: The vocalist on number 1 is one of the soloists.
  18. No. (And that strikes me as a little off the wall given the three-horn frontline unless you were thinking one of the larger bands. Anyway ... nope. Recorded several years before their earliest effort.)
  19. And we're two for two so far on submissions for February. Not that I couldn't live without either one of them, but no clinkers so far. Way to go, @Big Al
  20. Two recent uploads to Youtube, Percy in a mellow mood.
  21. Thanks for joining in the fun, Mark.
  22. Rcvd. Will be listening later when more of the household is awake. From the edited Opening Post: Please send an mp3 to my email, which is a hotmail account with my screen name run together. If you have not participated before, MP3 encoding should be 256 mps or 320 mps. Naming convention is your screen name. (I reserve the right to reject any track for any reason whatsoever. KIDDING.) Target date is by January 20. You may send at any time. I am not sure where to start if you have not made an MP3 before. But you would need audio software - lots of free ones available - to "rip" a CD track to an mp3. Looking forward to your contribution.
  23. Awesome to hear! I conceived of Fungii Mama as a potential gimme because I thought the release would have caught some listeners here. I enjoyed the whole set ... and when I settled on Minor Move, then I had to program the Blue Mitchell cover next.
  24. Dropping Severino and getting Stroman in his place is a huge upgrade for Yankee fans. For the rest of us, we can hope that his recent injury struggles are exacerbated by the alleged shortcomings of the training staff and he will be on the shelf as often as Severino was.
  25. I was looking for video of the fight with Rose and remembered that it really sucked and the best views were still photographs. A fight like that today in a WS or LCS would have so many cameras on second base ...
