  1. And Dodgers require an extension agreement, so it sounds like they have to be willing to commit 6-7-8 years at the going rate for a guy that has that kind of durability issue. In terms of empires, this seems like late-period Roman thinking. <late, lamented green smilie here>
  2. Last night I was laying on a couch or bed playing a spirited game of tug of war with a dog that had Joe Henderson's head, right down to the over-size glasses he favored. The body (I would guess in the pit bull zone) simply ended where his waist/hindquarters would have been. He had remarkable strength for a man/dog with no rear legs. Despite that and many other moments of bad weirdness, I slept remarkably well.
  3. How would you rate sound quality on the set as a whole and the Rosenkrantz discs in particular?
  4. Well that makes no sense but there it is.
  5. I was going to say that this might be gut-check time for jsngrey, seeing as its with Bill Barron but he's also a dedicated opponent of Jordi's business model. But then I noticed the attached statement on the web page, (which I have never seen before on FreshSounds website and had to double check that it does not appear on the other Philly Joe release) so I guess that those of us in the States will have to wait for it to make its way into blog-land, and Jim won't have to choose between his principles and his love of Bill Barron.
  6. Intriguing but I would like to know what the sound quality of this radio broadcast is, as the first set released was kind of rough. Another set leaves me wondering if there is another PJJ broadcast with Hank they could pair up with the Philly Joe and Elvin record.
  7. Alrighty then ... we still have room for 1-3 more people to join in the fun so I will keep registration open. I think it would be fair to split up the confirmed group by January 1 and ask for tunes by January 20 for February and February 20 for March?
  8. $700 Million for 10 years but apparently loads of $$ deferred, to ease the impact on the competitive balance tax. Refresh my memory but isn't Judge taking his $40 million a year, give or take, every year with no such allowance? I give Ohtani credit for thinking about the impact of such a crazy dollar figure. Although the Dodgers are printing money these days.
  9. I am deeply concerned that the best thing to happen in Boston this month will be Joe Castiglione being elected to the Hall.
  10. Also there are no bullpen doors in centerfield that I am aware of. Seriously though he missed another what, 50 games? 32 years old next year, and has played 148 or more games three seasons in his career. Equal to the 3 seasons he played 112 or fewer. Anything to keep him on the active roster.
  11. I wonder what the premium is to cover his Canadian taxes. They won't be inconsequential for a salary as high as he will be getting.
  12. I don't know that the label was even trying for Reid Miles on this cover, not really but this one is not emblematic because I don't think they were ever "consistently bad" at it. Plenty of them were perfectly fine. Has it occurred to y'all that maybe Michael liked the time warp photo use, because the album was covering out so long after the actual recording in the first place? So, yeah, go ahead and go backwards in time.
  13. Recently received photo from the Leonard Gaskin Papers at the Smithsonian. Michel Sardaby, Jimmy Owens, Alvin Queen, July 19, 1985 at the Nice Jazz Fest Dance Stage. (Bassist Michel Gaudry is behind Owens) Leonard Gaskin Papers, Archives Center, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
  14. I know its early in hot stove season but I just have this feeling that despite new management they will get outbid on everybody and the most impactful thing maybe sending their starting RF to NY for three possible/maybe/kinda sorta usable bullpen pieces. In the future.
  15. That's unfortunate news; he made some nice records and was a good composer too. IIRC he wrote all the tunes on the album that featured a frontline of Louis Smith and Ralph Moore. That remains a favorite which I was able to flesh out with unissued tunes a few years ago.
  16. This does not describe me. I hear everything I purchase on CD eventually and D/Ls too. Not that you should change but I have found downloads to be budget savers for reasonable priced access to OOP items from: Black & Blue label; Arbors label; I will still buy a CD thru Amazon Marketplace if reasonably priced/conditioned but often on the aforementioned labels, it's hard to find a reasonably priced CD, or a CD copy at all.
  17. None of these apply. My CD listening time is constrained; I am most likely to hear a new one in the car and then its straight thru but constrained by length of trip; Haven't borrowed a CD from the library in 25 years (maybe more). D/Ls sit on the hard drive and ultimately get extracted to a thumb drive and listened to in the car - usually on longer trips and straight thru; Streaming I do with decent quality youtube and then only stream from one PC to another for recording via Goldwave. At that point it joins with other D/Ls on the thumb that stays mostly in the car.
  18. Not to mention a 13 member Vatican-like committee in which nobody communicates except the "chairman" who is effectively the Pope, making declarations from on high. Fuck them and I wish I could communicate with that particular pope of college football because I'd make his eyes bleed with what I have to say to him.
  19. Sorry Aggie but that just isn't how any honest choice should be made. (And before I get into that let's just point out that the second string QB is not likely to be still held out in 30 days for a semi-final game. They might be "down to their third string QB" but he doesn't have a broken leg. He will play against GA and would have played in the game they should have gotten chosen for. As for the rest - it's just total bullshit. As the AD said: "It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant ... Wins matter. Losses matter. ... Today they changed the way success is assessed in college football, from a tangible metric - winning on the field - to an intangible, subjective one. Evidently predicting the future matters more ... they chose predictive competitiveness over proven performance, subjectivity over fact. They have become a committee of prognosticators. They have abandoned their responsibility by discarding their purpose - to evaluate performance on the field."
  20. UP for more signups! We are at 18 - target is 20 with I think a max of 24, for at the high end, 12 total tunes for February and for March.
  21. ESPN has huge contract with SEC. ESPN has rights to all "playoff" games. That committee was going to install a 1-loss SEC team over an undefeated FSU team by hook or by crook and by fuck, they did. The ACC was 6-4 against the SEC. FSU won two games on the road against the SEC. They beat 4 top 25 teams. Their "weak" offense without Jordan Travis had more yards in the ACC championship game than Michigan did in the Big 10 championship. They held a top 20 offense to six points in the ACC championship. Oh, and 3rd in strength of schedule - BETTER THAN ALABALAMA. This is a joke of a travesty of a criminally dishonest corrupt organization. -Embittered, infuriated FSU grad. Someone tell me how I am wrong and this can be defended.
  22. I was thinking 240A and 240B but it could be 239 and 240, I am open.
  23. Any further feedback on possible plan to split up signees into two month-long BFTs which has added advantage of covering the currently un-claimed February slot? We are at 18 signups, I was thinking we could keep that open into December and if we finished with 20-22 that would make a good total for two BFTs,, and could accommodate 24.
  24. My guess, addition by subtraction (Yankees) and disappointment/injury (Mets).
