  1. Thanks, and thanks to Lon as well. I am looking into these.
  2. How exactly are they private? Studio sessions Duke paid for but were never issued? Unissued/rejected tracks from known LPs? Been listening to more Gonsalves lately and this makes me curious.
  3. That actually did work which still seems odd to me as modern browsers go where they should without the https and when I did I was getting same maintenance message as main webpage.
  4. I'll probably post on the FB group too but what is happening with Organissimo.org? Anyone going thru the main site can't get to the forum, and you won't get thru to organissimo.org/forum. Strange. And to Thom for pointing this out in a PM.
  5. I'll stick with January please.
  6. It's Webb City, you and Felser thru the end of the year.
  7. Curious if you came upon this, knew of it already, or were motivated to buy this release of the Big Reunion recording with Hawk and Webster among others by the recent discussion, as I was. On first listen it's a great record.
  8. It's the only one I own. (I mean Jarrett who rubs me the wrong way nine ways to Sunday.)
  9. I was going to say "Lucky Old Sun" opened my eyes to pre-fame singing - I heard it on a comp years ago.
  10. Breezin' was released in 1976. Can we conclude that it was BG's threat that made Benson turn to the pop side?
  11. So if Jordi did the recording of airshots from Birdland and put them out on FreshSounds that would make it fine? Kevin's point remains - only owners of labels were getting paid.
  12. Well yeah ... you can find his LPs online pretty easy. Valid to purchase? OK to purchase since Boris is long dead and made whatever he made while he was selling his ill-gotten recordings? Not to mention the implication that this comes from a Boris recording. Maybe all of the descendants of original tapers should be told to only sell to Resonance or Reel-to-Reel.
  13. Looking at the photo didn't this get used in Bruce Almightyor whatever that movie was?
  14. Agreed and I understand the attitude ... but I also wonder if anyone who performed at Birdland and now are on a Jordi CD ... were any of them getting payments to their estates for anything they recorded?
  15. This is the sort of thing I make an exception for ... his slapping together of LPs not so much. But historic radio broadcasts with preferred groups/musicians, yeah I will pay or let someone else know for future gift purchases.
  16. Yes I found it on their site. This probably deserves a separate thread but it seems Jordi got another set of Birdland recordings, now released: Al Grey/Billy Mitchell. Why it needed to be paired with an Argo LP I am not sure but this also looks very intriguing. Something to pair up with the Philly Joe release. https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/al-grey-billy-mitchell-albums/56637-sextet-septet-live-at-the-museum-of-modern-art-at-birdland-2-cd.html
  17. I am seeing September 30 as a release date at least in Japan? Very curious about this since it's got Sonny Red, Hardman, Reece as well as Gilmore.
  18. I never willingly watched any of the Jurassic Park sequels but just found out that Buffett had a spot as an extra in Jurassic World. If the script only called for him to carry two Margaritas as he ran from the raptor and he improvised the sip,, that's pretty damn funny.
  19. Try a full billion dollars net worth, per Forbes, though as Jazzbo points out, the money was mostly from his empire of products and facilities dedicated to the image engendered by "Margaritaville". Which, by the way, was his ONLY top ten hit and that was 1978. Comparing Buffett to Taylor Swift is ludicrous and anyway, the tastes you deride are popular. What part of that is confusing or surprising? Sorry but this last sentence makes no sense. Parrot heads with resources and impeachable ethics and skills can also be expected to feel a loss. Are you saying that you will sympathize only because he's a good guy? Glad you enjoyed it.
  20. You got it faster than it got to me.
  21. Medium-level fan (few CDs from 80s recordings, never considered seeing him in concert) but his passing does give me pause because my older brother, if he were alive, would be distressed at this news. He came back from his first semester at Miami of Ohio a big fan and continued that way the rest of his life. I do think Buffett had songwriting skills beyond the "fun" and "clever" label attached to his best known songs. Sometime in the early 90s, he put out a CD marketed to promote acts that have appeared at his chain of restaurants/bar/hotels, with I think one song of his own. It was called Margaritaville Cafe, and "Souvenirs" is a gem. The bridge thru the last verse/chorus always gets me: I still go to pieces But I don't go as often Placeless times in space Where all the edges soften She took me away Where I couldn't send her I knew that she would leave me Something to remember I wanted more than one Until I found the one I wanted Her memories are ghosts now Though I'm still pretty haunted What we gave each other Ain't exactly clear Probably comes under the heading Of souvenirs
  22. Hate to say it but for me, call it a miscellany of mostly misses. 4 and 13 are only ones of real appeal (and I am a little curious on the pianist for #7). Thanks Joe.
  23. Thank you Ken - this may be a new record for the "all BFTs will contain a recording you own but will not recognize" rule. In addition to the two that I helped ID the specifics of, I also own the Hawk recording and the Van Enkhuisen/Horace Parlan record (I also programmed Van Enkhuisen a few years ago for one of my own BFTs). Regarding the Tough Young Tenors recording I find it interesting that several hated on the pianist to one degree or another - I hear Marcus Roberts differently and continue to be a fan.
  24. TECO has been lucky/good with outages mostly all near Tampa proper - I am at far eastern edge of Hillsborough county and outage map shows fewer than 10 customers out anywhere close, total. And TECO is getting work done in the continuing weather, the total out for their service area spiked to 6700 and was back down under 3K now. Feeling very fortunate, just hope our twitchy electric holds up thru remaining rain bands.
  25. 6:22 am and all is well so far. Even have power still, which is a surprise, somewhere between "modest" and "major".
