Mosaic and the Blue Note catalog
Dan Gould replied to mikeweil's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's hard to see as a Mosaic given their reliance lately on the tried and true sellers. -
And Shakira is a lot easier on the eyes then the monstrosity who came up with that other tune. Take this Job and Shove It was a hell of a lot catchier.

what is this the Spanish version of WAP?

MLB 2023: how ya like it now?
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Wow that is a shocker, first Tampa Bay can't sustain their lead against the Orioles and ultimately ignominiously bounced in two games at home. I withdraw my comment before and declare that my team for the duration is the Rangers, if only to make sure Jim learns that I am the supreme home team pessimist on this board and he needs to lighten up and enjoy the ride. (Insert old green smily here) -

it's certainly true nobody respects the Twins given both their history in playoffs and winning such a lackluster division. Would be interesting to see them surprise people and go deeper into the playoffs. -
MLB 2023: how ya like it now?

I have no dogs in the hunt any longer but all the teams I don't want to win lost yesterday, so there's that: Marlins, Brewers, Toronto, Tampa Bay. We'll see if the winners can get one more done in the next two. -

Winning 2 of 3 on the road against a team with a ridiculous home record is going to take luck. Get past them and anything can happen, IMO. -
@cliffpeterson Thanks for that list.

Pretty sure in NY they are called rats with wings. I don't know if I could have stood still with the wings flapping just off my shoulder. Griff must have had a greater tolerance than me.

Funny I didn't even know that there had been archival releases of OP and this new one is number four apparently. I guess what it boils down to for me is fewer legends, more working musicians who didn't do annual international tours. More Left Bank or releases from the late lamented Uptown Records (what a shame all we ever got out of the purchase of those reels was the Hank Mobley/Bennie Green recordings).
-
So it seems like the question I had a couple of weeks ago is being answered - what is coming in the way of archival releases for holiday shoppers/consumers? Am I the only one feeling a bit disappointed? More of the same: Ahmad Jamal and Wes Montgomery and two that are a little surprising, Les McCann and Grif. To be honest I'd be more interested in the Griff with a different rhythm section. Does anyone know if Real to Reel has anything going on? Maybe it wasn't realistic to hope that more Left Bank cassettes were coming this year, but hope springs eternal for 2024, I guess. Thoughts, comments or emotional outbursts?

Well I am going to leave my post as a monument to my idiocy.

Not in Denmark with Dex and Kenny Drew? Or Griff? Or Ben? (now I am not sure if he is on any of the Griff records).
-
But you moved out of Brooklyn or wherever it was ... you don't have room still? I'd be ordering a new CD rack for $60 and 270 or 540 more slots.

Not interested - Gonz and Brecker not favorites by any means - but is this a reissue or a new release?

MLB 2023: how ya like it now?

Last year the Phils participated all the way to the World Series so don't knock it yet. I was shocked this afternoon to see a headline about Tim Wakefield having brain cancer and absolutely floored to just find out that he has died. Very very sad news. When he was on he could be awesome. -

And we'll never know if he could have done it without this year's rule changes. -

Need help tonight please, since these brutal failures put them tied, and with the Marlins having the tie-breaker. I don't have a good feeling about the rest of the regular season. Will be interesting to see if MLB does anything against this allegedly homophobic Houston reliever. Under normal circumstances I would say that nothing should be done, but the guy was a dick and he's an Astro, so I say immediate suspension and if he appeals so he can keep playing, then he's out for the playoffs. -
I don't know how WAR and its variations (best 7, best 5 consecutive years, etc) deals with defensive metrics (I know they are in there though) but it finds 7 guys ahead of Brooks. https://baseballegg.com/third-base-war-leaders/

I've not known anyone so committed to the idea that there is Brooks Robinson and then everybody else.
-
OK, and the second team probably beats Brooks' all-timers because Schmidt makes 99% of the plays that Brooks does and hits two homers.
-
Steve, he was an artiste with the baseball glove! You mean 3B is a premium defensive position? More so than SS which requires far greater range and sometimes a stronger arm? Every player should be judged by both sides, offensive and defensive and to me, as great as Robinson was, Schmidt was nearly his equal (how can he not be with 10 GGs himself?), and ran laps around him offensively. Schmidt is the platonic ideal of a third baseman because its both a high value defensive position and supposed to not be a offensive black hole.

I was warned about mentioning that record before I spoke to him at this particular gig, but it was also before I actually sat down for an interview with him and then, things went so well that I broached the subject and he was cool about it. Later on he didn't even ask that I take it out of the transcript (the interview ran in two parts in Cadence).

Better than having Eddie Higgins tell you "Burn it!" when mentioning "The Music of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and then immediately turning to someone else who had gathered to talk to him. Eddie was a gentleman but that record really set him off. I should go back and listen again.
