I'm surprised he's being compared to Powell because he's said he's mostly influenced by OP, Gene Harris, Bobby Timmons. Those are certainly the influences that come through on his records. I did see him in West Palm Beach a few years ago and he was very good.

And thanks for the link. Contrary to what the guy says, I had no trouble downloading the tunes and saving them. Unfortunately real audio won't burn into CD format and sound right, but now I can hear the music without depending on the connection and the buffering.

Thanks for the clarification. Obviously he's talking about his career from the 70s on, when organs didn't have their appeal that they did in the 60s heyday, so its unfortunate, but surely he did record a lot before then.

Congratulations. It's a fact though that when you get older, your hearing will diminish, however slowly; it's part of the aging process. A really disturbing fact, because I lost hearing as a child, supposedly due to a childhood illness, and my time on the radio with headphones on didn't exactly help. So I'm not even 40 and sometimes wonder if I need to think about a hearing aid (or at least that I'll need one sooner rather than later). At least on the positive side, my hearing isn't acute enough to notice or care about all these supposedly inferior remasterings. It all sounds good to me, I just hope I can still hear it in 20 years!

Yes thought so. Heard in the Waiting Game liner notes that the reason they didn't release any others is because album sales were so low. That's largely true, but the fact is that Back to the Tracks was sequenced and mastered and pictured on the backs of other BN releases, but somehow slipped through and was never actually released at the time.

According to AMG, he recorded 19 times in the 1960s, including seven times before Misty got him some attention, so I really don't see how his opportunities were so limited. When was this boot made? Was it before Misty jump-started his career? It seems an odd thing for Holmes to be saying, unless he is referring simply to some specific clubs where he was blackballed or burned his bridges. But I would think that post-Misty, he had plenty of work, and he recorded pretty regularly for Pacific Jazz before Misty was his first Prestige recording. I'd be really curious to know when this recording was made.
