    Bill Hardman

I seem to recall some dissenting voices on Hardman's talents ... was it DEEP who was cutting him down, maybe on the AAJ site? Not way up there on my list but I do enjoy his Savoy side, and I have one of the Muse dates also, Focus. Brad, I think I may have to talk to my wife about my Dexter Valentine requests, and tell her if she orders three from Peter Crawford, shipping is free, so why don't you throw in this Bill Hardman disc, too?
  2. Interesting that someone who came here and made only a couple of posts knew enough about the software to know how to delete her own thread, and guys who've been here forever need help when it comes to deleting their duplicate threads.
  3. Oh you'd make Marty a very happy man! Hopefully those upcoming people will get a nudge from this thread to either get on the ball or ask to be dropped down a bit. Glad I gave my nudge when I did! Otherwise we'd get through Dana's discussion and come to a complete stop. Yes, Tom, being 25 would probably give you six or eight weeks or so.
  4. A friendly nudge that with Dana's discussion going strong, its time to start your signup thread. B-)
  5. Looking good at the moment, 31-10. But I am not convinced that the winner of this game will coast in the Super Bowl. Philadelphia's a pretty darn good team. Does anyone know for sure if T.O. will be ready for the Super Bowl? It'll be pretty damn cool though if New England is the champions of baseball and football!
  6. In a sense he's really been gone since he retired (can't believe its nearly 13 years!) because of his insistence on a private life. Seeing the discussion on TV and the articles quoted here, I get the strong impression that Carson was a lot like Reagan - no one really knew what was going on inside, what kind of person he "really" was. But the part of himself that he did expose, was really one of a kind. You really missed something, B-3er! One other observation I have to make: That Frank Rich piece reminds me how better suited he is to the show biz commentary he used to do, not his current, and always predictable, political schtick.
  7. I went with New England, partly hope and partly a belief that QB will make the difference.

    Eddie Higgins

No, and he doesn't like email either. You have to write to him. I'm sure if you sent a PM to Jim R., he'd give you his address.
  9. Dan, I'm hurt! The point of the program--such as it is in my head at this point--is that there was this small run of "blues" concept LPs by white female singers in the late 1950s... singers we would not normally associate with the blues. Then go with your title. Would you like a copy of Dinah Sings Some Blues With the Red Norvo Quintet? Seriously-it really does exist, and it surely fits. You haven't lived til you've heard Dinah Shore sing "I ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues"!
  10. I'm overweight, but not that chunky.
  11. Unless the point you're going to make in the show is that these are white singers singing the blues, I would come up with something else. Its not that its offensive, its that its not a great title, IMO.
  12. What can I say? I'm speechless .... except to say that I am not from Texas!
  13. Dropped "down"? C'mon Marty, this week's been mostly in the 60s, with some pretty chilly nights. And tonite, after the rain clears out, its supposed to fall into the 30s, with Sunday's high only near 60. (I grew up in the northeast and while I welcome the south Florida cold snaps, I know my time in Florida has thinned my blood. The last time I was up in Connecticut in the winter, it was damn cold and felt a lot colder than I remembered.)
  14. Yes, we have two of those at the station. I also picked up a Verve LP for $4 which may or may not overlap w/the CDs you mention. I'm pretty sure the Dizzy in South America discs were of unreleased material.
  15. S'allright. Glad its given you and the wife lots of pleasurable mileage.
  16. Let's give credit where it's due. Unless Big Al sent you his own "Sidewinder and Son's" comp, which would have been a violation of my copyrighted title, that's my disc you and your wife have been digging.

    Jim Croce

Headed to Borders, coupon in hand, but they didn't have the Fathead CD. Decided to take a chance on Have You Heard Jim Croce Live. With the coupon, it was about $11 ... and a very well-spent $11. A lot of his music works even better with just the two accoustic guitars and his voice (though I have to admit the barrelhouse piano really helps make "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"). The only thing missing is "I've Got a Name" which is disappointing but what can you do? Highly recommended to his fans.
  18. Yeah, same here, I skipped the one before this. And, with Valentine's coming up, I've printed out Peter's emails, marked the two Dexter's, and told my wife, this is what I want. B-) And she said, "good, you're making it easy for me."
  19. Brownie, my brother just sent me the Editor and Publisher link but you beat me to it. Glad I scanned the thread before posting.

  21. I can't answer your question, but I did make a silly suggestion to Eddie Higgins when I kind of assumed that between all of the 50s-60s reissue programs and the popularity of labels like Venus, the Japanese jazz scene tends toward the bop-hard bop classicist style, and he assured me that the scene is as varied as it is anywhere else.
  22. I would be surprised if people are ready next week for answers. Probably the week after, but there are quite a few who haven't posted here yet. But that does make me wonder what RT is doing about getting ready for #23.
  23. What, you don't think reducing a man's life's work to terms such as "ramblings," "convoluted meanderings," and "utterly vacuous" isn't "nasty and contemptuous?" Tell us what you do for a living, Dan, so that we may have the opportunity to reduce YOUR life's work into a series of petty and uncalled for blasts against what you've dedicated your life to. So, apparently, a professional critic can't be criticized. Watch out Allen, there's someone in the running for Chairman Emeritus of the Larry Kart Fan Club. What a pathetic crock of shit, Al. You seriously think I am dismissive or ignorant of the fact that Larry's been gainfully employed as a critic/commentator for a long time? OK: I find nothing illuminating in any of the opinions/views that Larry has shared on this board. I find his writing to be wordy and convoluted; surprisingly so from such an esteemed writer. Maybe his published work is more succinct, but I find his writing on this board to be dense, convoluted and hard to follow. His writing, specifically about how musicians go about their business, epitomizes the cliche I quoted before: Writing about music is like dance about architecture. No, no nastiness is received from taking something completely out of the realm of what's being discussed in order to get off some shots. Definitely no contempt there. But a hearty FU to you, but no nastiness or contemptuousness intended. Its just for the hell of it.
  24. Try left clicking and choosing "Refresh", dingbat. Now I'm wishing Edith Bunker on him.
  25. Yeah, that would explain it except for this: That isn't the message you posted at 2:22 PM, is it? And a hearty FU to you to, sir.
