  1. Hey Nessa, does GEORGE own the recording? Is he selling it? If not, FUCK OFF!!!
  2. In the spirit of the holidays, done and done. Guess I get to be a not-so-secret Santa, after all.
  3. As the Dodgers got cold feet and sent Big Unit and Big George into paroxysms of rage, the Sox jumped quickly on one of the most suprising non-tenders of the year, former Astro Wade Miller. He's had two years of injuries but passed his physical so his "frayed" rotator cuff can't be too bad. And when healthy, this guy was awesome with the 'Stros, something like 32-12 his first two full seasons in the bigs. Like the Matt Mantei signing, this is one of those super-low risk, huge upside deals that Theo is really specializing in. If my math is right, for the money we were offering Pedro, we now have: Clement Wells Mantei Miller With Schilling apparently behind in his rehab, I feel much better having signed this guy, so long as he's healthy. We're really stockpiling the arms, while the Yanks are overpaying for what they've got, still can't get RJ, and still can't unload Kevin Brown. And if they end up with Vasquez, its not like he's going into the season feeling wanted or anything. BTW, we've cornered the market on "MILL*Rs": Billy Mueller at third Kevin Millar at first and now Wade Miller in the rotation. At least now we've got someone who spells it normally.
  4. That and the fact that Mike could post about this super rare LP and in 12 minutes, someone steps up with an offer. Bet he didn't think it would happen that quick!
  5. Mike, You're in luck. I actually posted about this album in this George Freeman thread.: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=george+freeman You still on Mistywood Drive? I'll send a burn to you sometime next week.

Dex certainly freely shared credit ...
  7. Correct: "By the way, though I haven't watched Ray in Brazil through, when I previewed it I caught one item that will certainly be of interest to many: an instrumental with a tenor battle between Fathead Newman & Tina Brooks." Who are you quoting, John? I grabbed this over the weekend, I'm going to identify it as a "Santa" gift to me and the Mrs. I promise it will be the very first thing we watch after the World Series DVD. But seriously, when did Tina Brooks get a gig with Ray? How long did it last? It would make me wonder if Tina's life could have been different if he had a steady gig with Ray ... a poster over at Jazz Corner, Pete C, who occasionaly posts here. I still haven't seen the dvd myself. Sounds like the same exchange that Harold Z. identifies as James Clay and Fathead. Need to study all available Tina and Clay pictures before watching, I guess!

  9. I have to say that "Two Brothers" is only for Candoli fanatics. They are way past their prime. I'm in the process of building a Candoli collection, and have several CD's in transit. Right now, I'd recommend "Powerhouse Trumpet" and "Confirmation", The Chiz Harris Quartet. Both feature Conti (you're not going to find much with Pete alone). There is also Pete and Conti Candoli, "Fascinating Rhythm" which I have but have not checked out yet, and "Conti Candoli" (VSOP) which has Vince Guaraldi on piano and Stan Levey on drums. All of these should not be too hard to get. As they say, your mileage will vary. But when all those CDs arrive, I imagine you'll discover the man's name was ContE.
  10. Obviously its a doctored photo, John. We all know that no Iraqi will smile for an American camera.
  11. Don't wait on me ... I got it from Marty but I have no idea when I might listen and post, and from the previous post, Marty is not doing his usual extensive commentary.
  12. Also got mine, but I have no idea when it will get heard.
  13. I do have the Pershing date, but in a digipac, so its not getting listened to this time through. And that's quite enough for me!

  15. Definitely! Just remind him how well-received your set was, you should have a definite advantage over all the people who are just trying to catch their attention for the first time.
  16. As far as Mapleshade goes, I don't have the audiophile ears or equipment to weigh in on their techniques, but I am surprised to hear about their apparent business practices. What I am curious about is how someone like Larry Willis views them, since he seems to be on almost every recording, and I thought I heard he had some formal position with the company. Maybe he gets taken care of, so he doesn't care how the label treats other artists? Pretty sad, if that's the case.
  17. Thanks for that link! This one's definitely leaped to the top of my wish list, and since I anticipate some cash gifts for Christmas, I will definitely be ordering this soon.
  18. It's true that when they launched the new site, AMG said that it was optimized for IE.
  19. Sox sign Clement, and it looks like the Yanks have crept closer to getting the coveted Unit. I'm pleased to get Clement because I think he's got more upside than Pavano, has been more durable, and cost significantly less. And anyone who's seen Clement's facial hair knows he'll fit right in with the rest of the idiots Seriously, ESPN had a chart comparing the cumulative stats of Pedro/Lowe vs Wells and Clement, and on ERA, batting average against, and ratio of strikeouts to walks, there's no comparison: Wells and Clement are superior. The only difference is winning percentage, and that's all about run support. Lowe was awful but got more wins than he possibly deserved because of the offense he had. Clement was excellent but lost 13 games because the Cubbies never hit for him. I think the Sox will be fine this year, just as long as they cross off the last thing on the checklist: SIGN VARITEK!

    Jim Croce

Maybe its the Holidays getting me into a sentimental mood, but this guy was one of my favorites growing up (and probably as much as anyone inspired me to take up guitar) and as I was driving today I heard one of his biggest hits, "I Got a Name" and it just sent me down memory lane. He really was a very talented guy, taken way too soon.
  21. First the Red Sox win the World Series, now Aric agrees with me. The end is near, I tells ya! And here's another clue. Anyone seen Shurdlu lately? It probably turned out he was the only one right with the Lord, so he's the only one raptured out of the joint.
  22. And I was there afterwards, and you know he was at least as happy then, too. Maybe there's hope to get an invite back in 2005, since it will be two years since the one you played?
  23. Not five minutes from my boyhood home in Connecticut is one of the first revolving houses. We moved in '76 and I think it was relatively new then. I remember it was featured in Architectural Digest. Had a nice setting, on the edge of a huge reservoir, but it was awfully small as a single family home. Still thought it was way cool when I first saw it. I think the new apartment building has a bigger motor-I don't think this one rotated all that fast.
  24. Also, Charlie Brown specials must be sponsored by Dolly Madison. Now that's a bit more important to me than the spinning thingamabob.
  25. Yeah, and since at least 1996!!! See "TROMBONE OF CONTENTION" at http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/trombone.asp What was it that tipped me off? Oh, maybe "Weekly World News"? And maybe Paging Dr. J for confirmation -- but IMHO that was the goofiest line of the whole story. Funny how this story is refuted simply by referring to the newspaper in which it appeared. But isn't a stopped clock right twice a day? Isn't it possible this could occur? There's nothing in the snopes piece to refute the possibility of a blunt object hitting someone's head in just the right way to cause death. Remember that there are documented cases where athletes-or just young people engaged in athletic events-have died by being struck in the chest by a hard object (a baseball, a hockey puck) just in the split second between heart beats. The compression of the chest disrupts the heart's rhythm and the kid dies very quickly. This is serious enough that some little leagues have considered switching to softer balls. So, on the face of it, I don't think the story is simply impossible.
