  1. Happy to report that my wife (finally) has an appointment for Pfizer at CVS tonight. This is her first shot, and the final impetus for her was that her Mother/Aunt/Sister warned her that her presence might not be encouraged for Mom/Aunt's birthday celebration next month - unless she finally does something about vaccination. (We aren't sure if half a vaccine will be sufficient for them or not, she's going to find out, which will ruin the prior surprise appearances that have been engineered for her Mother's sake.) My wife is not opposed to vaccines, but she does have a history of multiple severe allergies and she wasn't, shall we say, extremely proactive about figuring it out and getting it done. And it did not help that her current (I use the term advisedly) doctor basically told her that all she could say is that there are vaccines available, and you have to decide for yourself. Getting her to find and consult with another doctor was damn near impossible, for one reason or another, usually work-related. Finally I did one google search and sent her two links: The CDC page on vaccines and allergy sufferers and a Cleveland Clinic page about the ingredients for each vaccine. She did her own research, and determined that Moderna has some ingredient related to aspirin, while Pfizer didn't. So Pfizer it is. I am probably going with her tonight just to be there in case anything bad happens in those first 15 minutes.
  2. Well a big especially for that tenor saxophonist.
  3. That possibility would help explain how quickly he went, actually. Or waning immunity if he got J&J early. Plus J&J had the least statistically impressive results. Anyway ... once again no brief physical response indicative of mild disease. Just a hellaciously sore arm. Maybe they misunderstood and gave me shingles instead.
  4. Third Moderna Saturday at Publix. Since boosters for everybody is the policy now, I wonder if, for a brief time, getting appointments at Publix will be as difficult as it was for the first month or so when they made the vaccines available. It is disconcerting to hear someone had J&J and died. I know the odds aren't perfect for avoiding hospitalization, but they are very very good. Do you know Bresna if they had co-morbidities?
  5. 1954 composition, first recording 1955, Mathis hit came in 1959. Johnny Burke is the one responsible for the lyrics. No idea when Garner had a hit with it but I am frankly guessing it was a later recording after Mathis started the parade of vocal versions, which really helped make it part of the ether.
  6. Diane agreed to accompany him to the Postmen's Ball or something like that, of course, as friends. Carla tells Cliff that "Misty" always gets her hot and bothered, so Cliff arranges to "run out of gas" then starts singing the tune.
  7. Unfortunately, my cultural reference point for "Misty" is Cliff Claven.
  8. OK, so, as a layperson jazz fan, I have probably heard Misty enough times to last the rest of my life. What I am curious about is why it is so popular - can someone explain in relatively simple terms the appeal to improvisers? As always thanks in advance.
  9. So of course E-Rod waves goodbye and signs with Detroit. I guess I should be glad we won't face him too often. And sad news I missed on Monday - SS Julio Lugo died on Monday, just a day shy of his 46th birthday. I know we won with him as starting shortstop in 2007 but the dropoff from his performance as a Devil Ray before the Sox signed him made him not exactly a popular part of that team. Here's a nice remembrance about how Lugo was off the diamond. RIP. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/remembering-julio-lugos-touching-gesture-kindness-red-sox
  10. Yet it seems like these must have vinyl counterparts (maybe rarer still) given the license date of 1975. Where are those?
  11. I'd never been aware of such a series until now, but that Licensed from United Artists and the date of 1975 tells us it was probably another poorly worded contract (like the story about Applause reissues) that would allow a company to continue to reissue on a new format 20+ years later. And how did they get the alternates which certainly didn't exist "out in the wild" in 1975 or were provided under the license agreement. Sounds like the company took CD issues and tried to market them under a very old contract.
  12. I knew nothing of Frishberg before he opened for the Ray Brown Trio at the Blue Note (my first and only time to see Gene Harris in person). I found him delightfully entertaining - a fine pianist and lyricist with the perfect voice to deliver his ditties. RIP.
  13. I wouldn't know but she has definitely aged very well.

    Sandy Graham?

Yeah, not as fascinated by the singing side of things as I know you are. I'd need to hear her first before an order, even though it's a cheap copy.

    Sandy Graham?

I saw copy on discogs of Muse for less than $5. But I'm sure you did too.
  16. Well this is disappointing: apparently E-Rod has turned down the Red Sox' qualifying offer. There was some suspicion that E-Rod could take the offer (nearly 19 million for one year) and try to rebuild his value and test free agency at the age of 30 next year. Must be sufficient interest to assure him and his agent (it's not Boras is it?) that he'll do just fine with a contract this year. And why not, how many 29 year old pitchers available with his upside?
  17. "Written with his sound in mind, using very advanced modern technology, we were able to sample notes to create this brand new melody never before played by Stan." Does this really mean that they sampled Getz playing different notes and put them together into a new melody that the G-Spot composed? What kind of new fresh hell is this?
  18. They'll throw plenty of money at Scherzer until he says "yes." And have plenty of money left over to keep Kershaw, just because they can.
  19. That's because Moderna is so darn good for those who started with it. For you, I believe the combo J&J + Moderna had the best result.
  20. I believe the data says "Moderna".
  21. And JD does not opt out. Hopefully that means so long to Schwarber, I don't want to see him near 1B ever again. Sox made their own commendable decisions, keeping Christian Vazquez for his option year, and declining Martin Perez and Garrett Richards, both of whom started the year in the rotation and ended in the bullpen. There's gotta be better options for barely or below league average starters out there. The overpaid interchangeable.
  22. I'll have to think about this to see if there is anything that important to notate. Sure there were more than a few purchases - not sure that many "super special" to mention.
  23. Since many have probably exhausted the site's charms, wanted to say I added two remembrances today, this one I absolutely love: https://www.percyfrance.info/michael-hashim-steve-holtje And Joe Magnarelli just sent me his thoughts, it's added here (scroll down past Sid Gribetz entry) https://www.percyfrance.info/others
  24. If you're interested in doubling your pleasure, try this: https://www.amazon.com/Head-John-gordon-Wycliff-Allred/dp/B0000683W4 Cheap copies available too. I saw them in Boca Raton promoting their record, might have even been with Eddie Higgins backing them. But a very enjoyable concert and CD.
  25. I believe its all this weekend - opt out decisions by Sunday, and also those qualifying offers too. Red Sox would surely make qualifying offer to get draft compensation if he goes. And yes, part of the presumption of JD acting out is that DH will be adopted by NL, yet he has to make decision a long time before he knows that a lot of NL teams could use a good hit/no field slugger going forward. So a little risky there if he takes the plunge.
