Listening to Safari from Horace Silver's first BN record now. Man, what a tune! Art Blakey is amazing on this one.

Thanks Pete. I may go for this one.

Did anyone happen to notice that there are a bunch of WM recordings coming out shortly. Scroll down a bit to find them. I'm familiar with the Wave recordings. The others have me curious, particulary the 4 CD set with Konitz. http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&kwfilter=warne+marsh

Your favorite "obscure" piano trio recordings
blind-blake replied to Joe's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I also love Billy Lester's stuff. If you like pianists from the Tristano "school," you gotta check out this guy. Just great. Here's a good one of his: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/8938372-billy-lester) Also Peter Madsen - his stuff with Mario Pavone is excellent (see http://www.amazon.com/Remembering-Thomas-Mario-Pavone-Trio/dp/B00000K547/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1262725459&sr=1-4)and Bill Carrothers (http://www.amazon.com/Home-Row-Bill-Carrothers/dp/B001E6G170/ref=cm_srch_res_rpli_12) -

Not sure how obscure it is, but I love Eddie Costa's "House of Blue Lights." -
I like it, too. Now some pitching!!! Something else to consider is that Beltre and Figgins were offered arbitration by their teams which means if we had signed either of them we would have forfeited a first round draft pick. Polanco, even though he was a Type A free agent was not offered arbitration by Detroit so the Phillies do not have to surrender a draft pick. Sweet! Sweet is right!! I just hope he can really play third. I know he's really a second baseman, but perhaps his bat will more than make up for the loss in fielding ability.

The beginning of Baba O'Reilly sounds a lot like Terry Riley's stuff. I'll just bet you there is an influence there. -

Looking for recommendations: Chopin (solo piano)
blind-blake replied to neveronfriday's topic in Classical Discussion
Thanks so much for your recommendation, Jeff. I know I probably come across as a complete newb here, but I'd prefer recommendations from around 1980 (preferably even 1990) and up. I have some of the older recordings (Rubinstein, Lipatti, etc.) as rips (legit, by the way) but on my shelf I want more modern recordings. I know many of these might not measure up to the best from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, but I'm hoping there are some recommendations that come close. I was just listening to a recording of Chopin's Etudes by Vladimir Ashkenazy and thought it was excellent. -
Mahler Centenary - Very Interesting Website

Sesquicentennial of his birth in 1860, centennial of his death in 1911. Thanks Ron. I knew I could count on you for the answer. -

Mahler plays his 5th. Piano roll. Very cool -
Thought you Mahler fans might enjoy this. http://www.universaledition.com/mahler/ Not sure why, but 2010-11 is supposed to be the Mahler Centenary Season. Perhaps celebrating his arrival in America?

Nice! Thanks man.

I will definitely be checking in regularly. Very nicely done. -
I think you know what I'm talking about: Those little plastic things at the center of the CD box that hold the CDs in place and which always break -- especially the ones that come with the "deluxe" box sets. (For some stupid reason, these little monsters are glued with their trays to the deluxe CD packaging, and thus can't be replaced like the trays that come with regular CDs. Worse still is that are made of a harder and more brittle plastic in the deluxe packaging and are thus more prone to break.) I know this is all probably pretty stupid, but what do you do when you buy CDs that come with these broken things? Do you immediately return them? Live with the problem of the CDs flopping around inside the box? Fix them in some way (I'd be interested to know how you do that)? I'd say about 25% of the deluxe packaged sets I get come with these broken CD holders, so it's a bit of a hassle to always return them. Any Comments?
