  1. Reflexionen – Reflexionen
  2. I was playing this whilst driving yesterday. Such a great record.
  3. It is meant to be a modern take on ghazals, with Iyer's playing behind. To tell the truth, it reminded me most of the soundtrack to Gladiator, sad and new aged, but more studious, and I found Iyer's playing didn't add much. I have enjoyed Iyer a lot in the past but I am increasingly finding his work hard to really enjoy. I'd be willing to be talked around, though.
  4. I didn't like it. Have you tried? I am happy to give it another listen if you think it is worth one.
  5. Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shahzad Ismaily – Love In Exile First listen to this, and my last.
  6. What is it? Looks interesting.
  7. That's pretty much how they pronounce it in the documentary.
  8. This one is such an excellent record. I'd forgotten it completely. So raw.
  9. This list concentrates on postwar acoustic blues. Some idiosyncratic choices but overall a good list with lots of it that I don't know. https://www.thecountryblues.com/articles/top-100-country-blues-favorites-1960s-to-today/ I missed this when you first posted it. Great tune.
  10. Just from the Arhoolie and associated back catalogue.
  11. I have a weird Bethlehem fetish. I don’t actually own any, but something about the design and music is really alluring. I enjoy a record 10% more if it is on Bethlehem.
  12. In honour of Mr Strachwitz' passing, I'd be interested in hearing of members' favourites from this excellent back catalogue.
  13. The records that Arhoolie put out were huge for me. RIP.
  14. Okay. He did an Eliane Elias recommendation yesterday so I thought it might be.
  15. Was this JazzWax inspired?
  16. Roberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound – La 8va. Maravilla
  17. Is also have a thing for this pre-fusion era of blind grasping for crossover success. That Bob Thiele light my fire record is another classic of this type.
  18. I have a soft spot for this record. Fight The Big Bull featuring Steven Bernstein – All Is Gladness In The Kingdom (Clean Feed, 2010)
  19. Joe Pugliese - Jazz In Focus: Music for Technique and Jazz Dances
  20. Incognito – Tribes, Vibes And Scribes
  21. The Warriors – Behind The Mask
  22. Okay. Sounds worth trying.
  23. Charles Lloyd - The Water Is Wide Enjoying this more than expected.
