  13. I forgot to mention that for the first time ever, both Edmonton and Calgary failed to make the playoffs. Alberta is one of the league's strongest markets, and both teams are out.
  14. Great to see you again, Al! The Grey Cup Final is a week earlier than usual this year, so I will plan to post the contest about Sunday, Nov. 10.
  15. Again, I'll post the articles tomorrow when they are up. The Riders beat the Elks. With their win, the Riders have clinched a playoff spot. The Riders' win prevents the Bombers from clinching first place. With the Elks' loss, the Lions have clinched a playoff spot. ***** Now let's look at the standings. https://www.cfl.ca/2024standings The Argos have three games left, and the Ticats two. If the Argos lose all three and the Ticats win both of their two, the teams will be tied at 8-10. Hamilton would win the tie-breaker because the Ticats beat the Argos all three of their games. It looks to me that the Argos' magic number is one. If the Argos win one more, or if the Ticats lose one more, the Argos will clinch the last playoff spot. ***** With the Riders and the Lions clinching playoff spots, the Stampeders and the Elks are eliminated. The most both the Elks and the Stampeders can win is 7, and the Redblacks and the Argos have already won 8; so neither the Elks nor the Stamps will cross over to the eastern playoffs this year. The Riders, the Lions, the Redblacks and the Argos have all won 8. The most the Ticats can win is 8. The worst record a third-place western team could finish would be 8-10. We know that the Ticats cannot finish better than that, so there will be no eastern crossover to the western playoffs. ***** All this is just my calculations, not the official word from the league.
  16. Winnipeg 31....Hamilton 10 The game wasn't as bad as the score would indicate; but as the game progressed, the Bombers got stronger and the Ticats got weaker. https://www.cfl.ca/2024/10/04/recap-winnipeg-31-hamilton-10/ https://www.cfl.ca/2024/10/04/oliveira-powers-blue-bombers-to-win-over-tiger-cats/ https://3downnation.com/2024/10/04/winnipeg-blue-bombers-bully-hamilton-tiger-cats-to-clinch-home-playoff-game-nine-other-thoughts/ https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/brady-oliveira-leads-winnipeg-blue-bombers-to-road-win-over-hamilton-tiger-cats-1.2184082 https://cflnewshub.com/cfl-news/cfl-scores-today-winnipeg-blue-bombers-31-hamilton-tiger-cats-10-bombers-dominate-on-the-road/ https://www.cfl.ca/2024/10/04/3-stats-that-defined-winnipegs-week-18-win-over-hamilton/ ***** BC 32....Calgary 15 BC led 9-8 after three. Nevertheless, I am picking the three underdogs. Maybe if one of them wins, I will look like a genius! Hamilton over Winnipeg (The Bombers are #1 in the power rankings. They are on a roll, and look very, very good. If they win, they will clinch first place. But the Ticats are on a roll too, and they need the win more than the Bombers.) Calgary over BC (Dave Dickinson showed his temper to the press this week, which is usually a bad sign for a team. The Stamps need the win to stay in the playoff hunt. But the Lions have quietly been pretty bad since Rourke rejoined the team. I think it is fair to say that Lions have more talent, but are in more disarray than the Stamps.) Edmonton over Sask (Over the past two weeks, the Elks showed that the Bombers are better than them. But the Riders aren't the Bombers, and I think the Elks will show that they are better than what they did last week. Both teams need the win.) ***** This thread's view count stands at 408,800; which is an increase of 2,200 over the past 14 days.

  22. South Korean Pianist, Composer YOUNEE To Release Double Album Improvisations Live in Germany A Masterpiece of Improvisation Art. AVAILABLE IN STORES AND ONLINE ON NOVEMBER 1, 2024. (Fulminantmusic, FM003CD) YOUNEE – Piano With her third album, the South Korean pianist and composer YOUNEE sets new standards and celebrates a spectacular comeback. Improvisations Live in Germany impressively showcases her extraordinary gift for free improvisation and her deep connection to music. This album is a vivid documentation of her musical journey and her relentless pursuit of artistic freedom and innovation. Recorded at various locations in Germany, it captures the magic of unique performance moments. YOUNEE Each piece is one-of-a-kind, shaped by the special atmosphere and energy of the audience. The acoustics of the venue, especially the character of the piano, play a significant role. With her impressive creativity and dynamism, she manages to transcend the boundaries between classical music and jazz, creating an exciting new style: Free Classic & Jazz. Improvisations Live in Germany is an artistic revelation that shows how deep and moving music can be. The recordings were made with a very special microphone technique that virtually places the listener in the position of the artist at the piano. YOUNEE When YOUNEE performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, she improvised on the theme of spring at the suggestion of an audience member, giving birth to the track “Frühling (Spring).” At the Jazzopen Stuttgart, she captivated the audience with her "Song for JOS." In Hamburg's "Fabrik," "Joy" was the trigger for her performance. "Cuba," recorded at the "Ofenwerk" in Nuremberg, sounds as if she had just returned from Havana, even though she has never been to Cuba. "Crazy Night in Lichtenfels" was created spontaneously at the city festival in the basket-making town of Upper Franconia. And which jazz club can claim to have its own YOUNEE piece like the "Unterfahrt" in Munich? "From Korea to Bach" is autobiographical. "Lefthand Improvisation," recorded at the Palatia Jazz Festival in Speyer, points to the potential of new playing techniques, and "Instrument Is Alive" is a true "Fantasie Impromptu." This fantasy was inspired by a visit to the Instrument Museum. She imagined the instruments dancing in the absence of visitors. YOUNEE Live © Rüdiger Schestag The musician continues to draw inspiration from classical masters like Bach and Beethoven. Her "Bright Moonlight," recorded at the International St. Wendeler Jazz Days, is inspired by Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." He called his work a "Sonata quasi una Fantasia." Her music is exemplary of the postmodern zeitgeist of the 21st century. She rethinks concerts, creating new frameworks and spaces where music can be experienced differently and where musicians and audiences meet on equal footing. For her, music is always communication. Her announcements and the titles of the pieces serve as introductions, as guides. YOUNEE Live © Stefan Wagner Her practice of making music requires an almost dreamlike sensitivity, a sense for situations, and the ability to react. For Younee, nothing works without imagination. And the listener always feels that here is an artist who does not use improvisation as a mere stopgap but rather to articulate her very personal attitude towards music. She always plays what she feels at the moment, and for her, the piano is more a partner and friend than an instrument. This album highlights the role of improvisation, as well as the musical tradition. YOUNEE reunites what has belonged together for decades. For her, improvisation and composition are two sides of the same coin, symbolizing unity. www.younee.com YOUNEE Live © Rüdiger Schestag TRACKS CD 1 1.
