How deep is the jazz selection at Spotify?
GA Russell replied to medjuck's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
I'm glad you've pointed that out, BW! I hadn't noticed. I took a brief "How are we doing?" poll at spotify a couple of weeks ago, and I said that they need to add the Concord catalogue. -

I'd like to do this - how can I get all of ECM's cds free, too? Aggie, I got on their mailing list when I reviewed new releases at AAJ. It's been four years since I frequented AAJ so I am out of touch with their current situation; but it wouldn't hurt to go there and see if you can volunteer to review. Even if you don't get on the ECM list, you might get on someone else's list that would be just as valuable to us here.

As you know, I'm on ECM's mailing list. I receive nearly all of their jazz releases. There are quite a few which leave me cold upon first listening, but I warm up to a number of them after a few months of listening, or after putting them aside for a few months. I find that for most ECM's, I need to be in just the right mood to appreciate what they're doing. I have no knowledge of ECM's business practices, but I can say that the records always sound first class. Nothing about ECM seems to have been done half-ass. I've never heard an ECM which sounded like a payday jam session.

This arrived in the mail yesterday. It's a very peaceful avante garde album! Although free jazz is not my cup of tea, I enjoy this, and I expect I will play it often over the next couple of weeks. I can definitely recommend to those of you in New York to go to the show Thursday and pick up a copy. Cover + cd for 15 bucks is a real bargain.

sidewinder, I didn't know that Mike Westbrook's Love Songs was neglected. I would hazard a guess that it's his most famous album over here.

Thanks Mark! I take it back. This might be the best festival in fifty years!

Wow! I think that's the best festival lineup I've seen in twenty years.

kh, This one is a sentimental favorite of mine that I got when it was new when I was in college. A few years back Pat Martino was a regular at AAJ, and I asked him if it was available on CD. He said that it was, by ordering from Eric. Perhaps you can do a search at AAJ and find the thread with the URL where to order it.

Bertrand, click on "use full editor", then go back and make the change at the top line.

Joey Votto made history tonight, sort of: (I)t was the first time in major league history that a player hit a game-ending grand slam for his third home run, according to research by the Elias Sports Bureau. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/joey-vottos-game-ending-grand-slam-makes-mlb-history/article2431511/

Canada has an all-star game for next year's seniors called the East West Bowl. The game gives the scouts an early look of who to pay attention to during the coming year. This year's game was played yesterday. The East won 24-16. http://www.londoncommunitynews.com/2012/05/east-takes-24-16-win-in-cis-showcase-at-western/ http://cfl.ca/video/index/id/74239/autostart/true

My first thought was Roy Orbison - The Sun Years. Orbison's reputation is based almost entirely upon his Monument recordings. These Sun recordings, his earliest, don't sound like them. I suspect that Orbison would be held in awe if he had died after making these but before making his Monuments. http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Years-Roy-Orbison/dp/B0000032QW/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1336846063&sr=1-1
