  2. When a musician is said to be unable to read music, does that mean that he cannot sight read and play well immediately what is there on the chart, or does that mean that the written notes on the chart mean nothing to him?
  3. I always preferred the instrumental pop and rock on the radio. I feel that hearing those records was more important than any one jazz album. When I was fifteen I bought my first jazz record, the Ramsey Lewis Trio's Hang On Ramsey. That was a big step for me because I always found the liner notes of jazz albums to be intimidating. I probably would have been content to listen to that level of music had nothing else come along. Four months later I bought my first hard core jazz album, Groove Holmes' Soul Message, on the strength of his hit single Misty. That one is still one of my very favorite albums, and it released any fear of intimidation.
  4. Last month someone, I think Pete C, pointed out that John Handy's Live at Monterey was available for only $1.98 when the songs were bought separately, so that's what I've done now.
  5. Correct Chuck! It's Weeb Ewbank. In 1960 and 1961 I watched all of the Baltimore Colts' home games on NBC. In those days, the league did not want the television audience to see more than what the fans at the game could see. So even though the Colts were the defending champions, I never saw what Weeb Ewbank looked like.
  6. Here's one for those of us of the older generation.

  8. Happy Birthday Chuck!
  9. Correct Paul! It's Terrell Owens. By the way, there was no way I would have gotten Goldie Hawn, Dave.
  10. See if you get this one.
  11. This is involved with Facebook, so you may not be interested. Amazon asks you to list your favorite song, and then you get the $2 mp3 credit. I don't know when the offer expires. http://www.amazon.com/gp/socialmedia/promotions/anc-mp3/
  12. Correct FFA!
  13. Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure that I picked up Indestructible! from a bargain bin at Borders ten years ago, but have never opened it up. I'll put Free For All and Ugetsu on my Amazon wish list.
  14. I enjoy Wayne Shorter's 1964 Blue Note albums as a leader very much. It occurs to me that I'm a little vague about his work with Art Blakey in the 1963-64 time frame. Can anyone recommend just an album or two of Blakey's when Wayne was in the group from that time period?
  15. Very good FFA! That's the oldest picture of her that I could find except one from childhood that is so different I'm not sure it's the same person. Here's one.
  16. Let's resurrect this thread.
  17. Following up on the article regarding the bad uniforms, here's the article with photos of the best uniforms. I've always liked the 1948 Stampeders'. http://cfl.ca/article/mullin-the-16-greatest-cfl-uniforms-of-all-time

  22. The Ticats have released Jason Boltus. I thought that he had some potential. http://cfl.ca/article/ticats-release-boltus-ink-pair-of-pivots
  23. Because of thirdtry's post, I pulled out a CD from last year's release, and realized I'm not tired of it yet! Nowadays, a release once a year seems like plenty. Imagine what it was like in the mid-60s when Blue Note would get their people together almost every week for a great session. For example, Wayne Shorter (who was merely a sideman professionally at the time) recorded three five star albums in 1964 alone!
  24. I'd like to have dinner with Stephanie Zimbalist (who has sung with Tommy Tune), and her dad and three other family members to take up the slack if she isn't enamored with me!
