That's the deal, and I was thinking about it. My interest waned a lot this afternoon when I turned on Real Jazz this afternoon to hear a version of "The In Crowd" with a drum machine. I'm very surprised to hear you say that. They have a channel called for "contemporary jazz" that it wouldn't surprise me to hear that kind of thing, but the Real Jazz channel is very mainstream. Take a look to see that you had it on the right channel. Of course, I'm not trying to deny your experience.

Interesting - my car has Sirius, but it's not activated. They're having one of their free trial periods right now, and have offered me a ridiculously cheap deal, since I've had the car for almost three years without activating the service. I've tried listening to it, but I don't really enjoy it - I'd rather pick my own music. The CD player and iPod jack get equal time in the car. Jeff, are they offering you the deal of $25 for six months, or something like that? If so, go for it! I find the Real Jazz station alone has been educational for me. (And as an added bonus, Sirius carries every CFL game!)

I grew up in New Orleans. My favorite T-P moment occurred ca. 1967. The sports editor, Bob Roesler, was covering the Kentucky Derby, and picked a horse to win in two minutes flat. And that's exactly what happened! The next day the big headline read, "Roesler Calls His Shot!"

I bought a new car radio/CD player when I got Sirius in 2006. I have never used the CD player (except once when a friend insisted), as I always listen to Sirius.

I agree with Ted that the t in often should be silent. However, it is so common that I believe that that battle is lost. Perhaps in the US as well as Britain the t is regional, as Bill suggests. I haven't noticed that, however.

Brownie, I don't recall seeing before an album listing Donald Byrd as "Don" Byrd. Do you think there are others?

Dave Mann has died. I had his bubble gum card in 1959. I met him in 1980 in Pittsburgh when he was the head coach of the semi-pro Toronto team, whose name may have been the Grizzlies. They were playing the Pittsburgh Colts, who had former Steeler Jack "Hydroplane" Delaplaine on the team. Nice guy. My pet peeve is the mispronunciation of the word forte. Forte in Italian means loud and is pronounced "for-tay". Forte in French means strength and is pronounced "fort". But it is common in this neck of the woods for people to say for-tay when they are referring to a strength and should be saying fort.

As far as I know Ace never released Sun recordings. U.K. label Charly issued lots of Sun material, but had to withdraw their releases because they turned out not to be legit. Rhino in the United States and Bear Family in Germany released CDs and boxed sets with Sun material that were legit. Hans, I believe that you are correct - it was Charly, not Ace. My apologies.

If I recall correctly, in the 90s I saw in the stores a number of Ace releases of Sun Records material. I don't think that anyone else has released much of it since.
