  1. Happy Birthday 2010 Brandon!
  2. Happy Birthday WorldB3!
  3. Here you go, Evan! Today's Miami Herald is reporting that Trestman is on his alma mater's short list (four names) of candidates to coach their football team. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/als-coach-trestman-on-miami-hurricanes-shortlist/article1834478/
  4. Hey does that copy of RAH have the lyrics he used on the early pressings? "I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places/Of the horses at the races......" By the way, Joe, it's "all the old familiar faces of the horses..."
  5. This was a beef of mine only one time, and then I learned. Times have changed. When I was growing up, the stores charged their highest prices of the year during the four weeks before Christmas, knowing that you had to buy something. The week after Christmas was when everything left was put on sale. So we would take our Christmas present money and go shopping. Now the sales are before Christmas, and there is nothing left to buy with your Christmas money. So my beef was getting money on Christmas after the sales had ended! I suppose that the new system is preferable because for the same amount of money I can give more to my family.

  7. The Eskimos made it official today, naming Kavis Reed as their new head coach. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=344963 ***** Andy Fantuz has scheduled January workouts with Pittsburgh and Minnesota. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=344987
  8. When I was a freshman in college, I got two groups: Thelonious Monk Charlie Rouse Walter Booker Roy Haynes Herbie Mann Steve Marcus Roy Ayers Sonny Sharrock Miroslav Vitous Bruno Carr
  9. Vladimir was my first thought as well.
  10. Hey does that copy of RAH have the lyrics he used on the early pressings? "I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places/Of the horses at the races......" Yes. I didn't know there was a later pressing version. It also has two recordings of My Favorite Things - one with jazz references and one without. It is a Japanese issue.
  11. Happy Birthday 2010 Dmitry!
  12. I have two autographed Al Hirt LPs, an If LP signed by Dick Morrissey and a signed Mark Murphy Rah LP. I wouldn't expect to get much for them now, but perhaps after Murphy passes the Rah will be worth something.
  13. The Globe and Mail says that the Eskimos will name Kavis Reed as their new head coach Friday. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/eskimos-to-name-kavis-reed-head-coach/article1831260/
  14. Happy Birthday 2010 Ghost!
  15. Have you guys heard of Luke Scott of the Orioles? I don't pay attention to baseball, and I've never heard of him, but that doesn't mean anything. Anyway, he goes off on a good rant about hunting and politics here: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Answer-Man-Luke-Scott-talks-Nugent-hunting-and?urn=mlb-292970
  16. I learned of it the following morning. My radio alarm clock was set for radio only, and it woke me up with the CBS News. I believe that it was Morton Dean announcing, and he led off with the news that John Lennon had been shot and killed. In my semi-consciousness, my first thought was...That person has the same name as the Beatle.
  17. It's on my calendar. In the interim, do you guys need me to pick up anything from the supermarket while I'm out? Look! I remembered to bump this thread! I guess it's getting a little late to buy a Christmas album, but we still have almost three weeks. I got my 2011 daytimer calendar last week, so I'll make a note for next November to buy it.
  18. Would anyone be interested in samples of a coffee called Jazzman Blue Note? It is as black as can be, and it is decaf. Maybe just the thing for light night post-Christmas-party-ing! I'll be happy to stuff one into a simple envelope for all who are interested. ***** Edit: LOL I'm losing my mind! Now I see that it is not called "Blue Note" but rather "Bold Note". Oh well.
  19. Paps, I agree 100%. Not peeing in the punch bowl at all. However, I disagree that there are too many bowl games. Nowadays the schedules are loaded with non-conference pushovers, and the bowl games offer contests between two decent (and presumably evenly matched) teams. I would just move everything up a few days on the calendar. It's all anti-climactic after Jan. 1, so let's do it all then.
  20. I don't see a thread about this year's college football, so I thought I would start one about the bowl games. The LA Times links don't carry over to here for some reason, but you can find a real good preview of all of the bowl games by entering "College Bowl Matchups" into the search box, and scroll down to the article with that title, attributed to "Tribune Newspapers". http://www.latimes.com/
  21. Every kid loves crayons.
  22. It occurred to me a few months ago that we should have had a thread last December for the Top Ten new albums of the decade. The computer with my database is packed away, and I'd need it to review what I have opened up in the last ten (eleven) years. But since not everyone has that problem, I'll ask the group for your views. What are your Top Ten new albums released since Jan. 1, 2000?
  23. It's that time of year again when we list our Top Ten new albums of the year. Here are mine in my chronological order: Gail Pettis - Here in the Moment Ralph Lalama Quartet - The Audience organissimo - alive & kickin'! Antonio Adolfo and Carol Saboya - La e Ca/Here and There Manu Katche - Third Round Ketil Bjornstad - Remembrance Mina Cho - Originality Milton Suggs - Things to Come Conrad Herwig - The Latin Side of Herbie Hancock Mason Brothers - Two Sides One Story What are your Top Ten of the year?
  24. Thanks Kevin! That did it.
  25. You're welcome Evan! I didn't know that Trestman went to law school. Where did you go? Did he graduate?
