  1. What I had in mind was the NFL having two conferences, and each team would play every other team in the conference one time. Then there would be something like three interconference games to make the schedule 18 games like they want it. The important thing is that you only play a team once, so that the tiebreaker would be simply who beat whom.
  2. Old enough to remember the Chicago Cardinals, the New York Titans, the Dallas Texans and the Los Angeles Chargers!
  3. There are couple of items at Amazon that I have my eye on. Sansa Clip+ 2 gig - $24.95 http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Player-Packaging-Refurbished/dp/B004CN518W/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I333CT9O2Q3GIX&colid=RVSBV717YT9 Combine that with a Sandisk 16 gig micro SD card - $19.45 http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-Memory-SDSDQ-016G-Packaging/dp/B001L1H0SC/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I32KQIIO1R6EN0&colid=RVSBV717YT9
  4. FFA, well, how did they do it when we were kids, before there were playoffs? I would have each conference with one table, and have each team play another team only once. Then, if two teams were tied for first at the end of the year, I would award first place to the team that beat the other. I suppose it might get complicated if three or four teams tied for first, but using a tiebreaker formula makes more sense to me than having a sixth-seeded team play in the Super Bowl.
  5. Prechae Rodriguez has signed with the Als. http://www.cfl.ca/article/prechae-rodriguez-signs-with-als
  6. Happy Birthday vajerzy!
  7. aloc, ditch the cartridge blades! We'll talk you into going back to the safety razor and double edge blades!
  8. This is why I don't like playoffs. I've always disliked them most of all with baseball. I think the regular season should determine who the two best teams are, and then the championship game should be between the two best teams. With playoffs, the championship is awarded to the team that is hot at the end, on a winning streak, no matter how many teams were better over the course of the previous four months. When the Steelers won the Super Bowl a few years ago, weren't they the last-seeded team?
  9. Happy Birthday S-A-R!
  10. Brasil '66 was my favorite group my last two years of high school. I still love their first three albums with the original lineup, but for me the later albums with the second lineup don't pass the test of time. I think that the first group swung a lot more.
  11. I'm sorry to hear this. She was not particularly popular in the US, but I always liked her, and thought that she was one of the most beautiful women in the world.
  12. OK, I'll try reddit. I miss Digg, and I gathered that many Diggers moved over to there. aloc, we'll get you started on traditional wetshaving if you're not already there!
  13. reading: http://www.mobileread.com/ shaving: http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/ I used to enjoy Digg very much, but they changed it, and it has collapsed.
  14. Happy Birthday 2011 hbj!
  15. Newbury did not respond to my Monday (Jan 10) request for a refund, so this evening I filed a claim with Amazon. Amazon says that the matter should be resolved by Jan 28 (in two weeks).
  16. The Stampeders have traded Mike Labinjo to the Als for future considerations. He has been injured the last couple of seasons, and apparently John Hufnagel gave up on him. I can't remember the last time a player in either league was traded for future considerations. That used to be standard procedure when I was a kid. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Montreal/2011/01/12/16862621.html
  17. Thanks to comments by Mark Stryker, Doug Ramsey has Margaret Whiting, Jo Stafford and Frank Sinatra doing Moonlight in Vermont on his Rifftides blog. Great comparison! http://www.artsjournal.com/rifftides/
  18. skeith, I think you are referring to this: http://www.amazon.com/Bitches-Brew-LIVE-Miles-Davis/dp/B004ENAC4I/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3GQZ416MAP2H0&colid=RVSBV717YT9
  19. Yes, I once had a shipment from BMG take forever. But in this case, it only took nine days. Remember, the USPS claims that it was delivered on the 20th. So was it misdelivered to someone who kept it, or did the mailman fail to do his job?
  20. When I spoke to the USPS Customer Service rep yesterday, she mentioned in passing that the package was sent Media Mail. That hadn't occurred to me. I wonder if Media Mail items are more likely to be tossed aside and forgotten.
  21. This brings up the issue of Otis Redding. He was the #1 r&b singer in the South when I was in high school, bigger than James Brown. Yet I have often thought that I never hear his hits on the radio except Dock of the Bay which was released posthumously. I can't remember the last time I heard Respect or Try a Little Tenderness or Call Me Mr. Pitiful on the radio. So I guess that I'm not surprised that the younger generation would not know that Respect was Otis's song. PS - Another cover that I suspect the younger crowd doesn't know about is Always Something There to Remind Me. I think it was Lou Johnson who did it first, but I grew up with Sandie Shaw's cover. You never hear them on the radio either. PPS - Another example is Johnny Rivers' By the Time I Get to Phoenix. Glen Campbell had such a big hit with it that the radio stations seem to have completely forgotten that Rivers had a hit with it first. PPPS - This morning on Sirius I heard Herman's Hermits' cover of I'm into Something Good. In New Orleans that was not played much because shortly before we had the original hit by the woman who I think was named Earl Jean. I haven't heard that on the radio since then, 46 years ago.
  22. David Nelson has died of colon cancer at 74. I always enjoyed Ozzie & Harriet, and I never understood why it took a beating in the press in the late 60s. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/david-nelson-last-surviving-member-70626
  23. Bob Young and Bob Bratina announced today at a joint press conference that they have agreed to have the Ticats remain in Hamilton for the next twenty years. Ivor Wynne will be renovated to the tune of $115 million, which will result in a 25,000 seat stadium. The City Council still has to approve the deal. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/tiger-cats-to-renovate-ivor-wynne/article1865362/ http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/stephen-brunt/tiger-cats-staying-put-in-hamilton/article1866300/ http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=348918
