  1. Here is a fleshed out article about the CFL's TV ratings, including how it does on RDS. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-tv-ratings-go-through-the-roof/article1814305/
  2. The CFL Awards were announced tonight. And the winners are... Burris Fantuz Owens Knowlton Elimimian Archibald I suspected that the writers would name Burris as the league's Outstanding Player when they named him ahead of Calvillo when picking the All-Star team. All six were first time winners. Owens was a unanimous selection. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Calgary/2010/11/25/16321561.html
  3. What about Réseau des sports (RDS) in Québec? I watched that network quite a bit during my visits to Montréal. Their site has decent-looking Francophone Grey Cup coverage. TD, RDS and TSN are owned by the same company. RDS is considered the French-language TSN. I'm not sure if it is carried outside of Quebec. There are francophones in Manitoba. Perhaps it is carried there. Do any of you Canucks know? ***** Controversy! Two Als, Matthieu Proulx and Etienne Boulay, accused the league of favoring the Riders on a French-language Quebec radio station today. This has political implications. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/GreyCup/2010/11/25/16321706.html
  4. The Canadian equivalent of ESPN is called TSN. Here's an article that says that the audience(s) for TSN's CFL broadcasts are larger than for their NHL broadcasts. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-targets-generation-next/article1814225/page1/ ***** Stephen Brunt's preview of the Commissioner's State of the League address: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/commissioner-cohon-and-cfl-can-breath-easy/article1814256/ ***** More about the Grey Cup: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/GreyCup/2010/11/25/16319821.html http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Saskatchewan/2010/11/25/16317996.html http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/GreyCup/2010/11/25/16313706.html Matt Flowers Grey Cup preview http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4359074 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4359118
  5. Borders sells eBook readers. I'm not sure how many different brands. At half off, that's quite a steal.
  6. The two I keep hearing about are the Sansa clip+ and the Cowon J3. Can you plug a non-iPod into a USB port to listen over your computer speakers? The one advantage I see with an iPod are the third party peripherals that allow you to easily charge it while listening to a desktop radio-type arrangement (I think they're called docking stations).
  7. Grey Cup matchup http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/live/match908.htm ***** Montreal is a 3.5 point favorite, with the over/under being 52. http://stats.sports.theglobeandmail.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=globeandmail&page=cfl/odds/odds.aspx?sc=AJ,p=1,date= ***** Montreal's roster as of the 19th http://stats.sports.theglobeandmail.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=globeandmail&page=cfl/teams/ROSTER675.htm ***** Saskatchewan's roster as of the 19th http://stats.sports.theglobeandmail.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=globeandmail&page=cfl/teams/ROSTER677.htm
  8. Here's an interesting site for those who think that the iPod is not a particularly good mp3 player. I intend to read what they have to say about the various Sansa's, which I've read good things about. http://anythingbutipod.com/
  9. Res ipsa loquitur! http://alsinsideout.com/from-the-sidelines/cheerleader-of-the-week/michelle-g-2/
  10. This leaves us with these numbers left: Montreal - 15, 80, 90 Saskatchewan - 10, 15, 85, 90 PS - Because it will be cold, I am expecting a low-scoring ballgame. But a CFL game with 85 or 90 points is not unheard of when they go into overtime. Overtime in the CFL is like US college ball.
  11. They will all fail eventually. You have to expect that. No, this was within the first month. I've been browsing newegg's site, and it looks like there is a high failure rate in the first month or so, and very little after that. It looks to me like it would be wise to spend the extra ten dollars on the one-year extended warranty. Anybody have an opinion of iomega?
  12. medjuck, Carnivore already has Montreal and 25. See my post immediately before yours for the available numbers. The first year I attended a Canadian league game was 1976, and the Grey Cup that year featured Ottawa versus Saskatchewan. That was the game where Tony Gabriel caught the TD pass in the last minute. Ottawa does not have a team currently, but is expected to have one in 2013.
  13. This leaves us with five good numbers left: Montreal - 20, 80 Saskatchewan - 75, 80, 85
  14. Apparently there are two Canadian acts this year: Theory of a Deadman and Andree Watters & Suzie McNeil. http://greycup.cfl.ca/page/grey-cup-halftime
  15. I had an American Flyer train. My dad liked them better than Lionel because they didn't have the third rail and were therefore more realistic. Perhaps someone can tell us why the Lionels were so popular. Were they the first?
  16. When I was in high school, we were required to go to a performance of The Rivals. I enjoyed it. Twenty-five years ago I attended a party on business where the performer was Norm Crosby. I loved it! After the show, he met everyone, and I told him that he was my mother's favorite. He enjoyed hearing that.
  17. Gregg Xenakes Grey Cup pick http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4358856.htm ***** good Grey Cup previews http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4358750 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=342627 ***** more Grey Cup stories: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/GreyCup/2010/11/24/16297266.html http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=342569
  18. Here's what I have so far. 19. Carnivore, Papsrus already has Montreal - 35. If you like Montreal, pick a tiebreaker below 30 or above 60. HBJ, Indestructible already has Montreal - 55. If you like Montreal, pick a tiebreaker below 30 or above 60.
  20. I see that the kickoff is scheduled for 6:32 pm eastern time, so that's what we'll make the deadline to play the contest. http://www.cfl.ca/article/edmonton-cold-snap-should-warm-up-for-grey-cup-sunday
  21. The weatherman is predicting scattered winds and light flurries with a temp of -8C (17F) at kickoff time Sunday. http://www.cfl.ca/article/edmonton-cold-snap-should-warm-up-for-grey-cup-sunday
  22. I've found two interesting boxes, not jazz: Soft Machine - Original Album Classics - $15.49 http://www.amazon.com/Original-Album-Classics-Soft-Machine/dp/B003ZBX84G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290579398&sr=1-1 Johnny Cash - Complete Sun Masters - $13.38 http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Sun-Masters-Johnny-Cash/dp/B0014VCFWU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290579511&sr=1-1

  24. One of the few things I miss from my childhood is the downtown department store Christmas model train display.
  25. HBJ, you tiebreaker needs to be divisible by five! Canadian football is so different the American football, so 9.6. LOL! HBJ, I'll put you down as Montreal - 10!
