  1. I had no idea!
  2. I considered including vinyl to the poll, and I guess I should have. It looks like some people are commenting without voting!
  3. This is the time of year when last place teams make lots of changes. Two Blue Bomber speculations: 1) Buck Pierce dislocated his throwing arm elbow against the Riders, and may be lost for the season. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/elbow-injury-could-end-pierces-season/article1699872/ 2) The Bombers would like to sign Jesse Lumsden! http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=333084
  4. I was surprised to see on another board I am a member of that the majority of people there listen to music with MP3s rather than CDs, so I thought I would ask here. (They have ripped most of their CD collection to MP3s.) Does the majority of your listening come via MP3s or CDs?
  5. British Columbia Lions 38....Montreal Alouettes 17 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=864 Former Florida star Chris Leak started his first pro game for the Als, and didn't fare very well. However, it wasn't his fault that the Lions were able to score 38 points. Ricky Santos played the fourth quarter, and led the Als to two TDs. Leak injured his hip, and will not play this week. Adrian McPherson is coming off the injured list, so he will start, and Santos will back him up. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=333005 ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 27....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=865 The Bombers hung tough the whole game. Buck Pierce was injured again. ***** Hamilton Tiger-Cats 28....Toronto Argonauts 13 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=866 The Ticats took a two-TD lead, but it looked like the Argos would come back. However, the Ticats defense stymied them in the fourth. ***** Calgary Stampeders 52....Edmonton Eskimos 5 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=867 The Eskimos were just brutal. The 47 point margin sets the record for games between these two arch-rivals.
  6. Mina Cho is a 28-year old (woman) pianist and composer from Seoul, South Korea, who graduated last year from Berklee. She has recorded an album of her songs called Originality. I like it a lot. It's a little bit third stream, but not too much. The band is made up of piano, sax, guitar, bass and drums. The rhythms are varied. The melodies are not hummable but are very pleasant to listen to. The final track is a male vocal. I've found a link to it where you can sample it here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/MinaCho
  7. Trombonist Conrad Herwig has released albums of latinized arrangements of the compositions of John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter. Now he has a new album called The Latin Side of Herbie Hancock. The album was recorded in concert at the Blue Note in August of 2008. The band includes Eddie Palmieri and Randy Brecker. I'm not the biggest fan of latin music, and it took me a few listens before I became accustomed to the disc. Now I have grown to like it a lot, as something different in my collection. Some of the songs, such as Maiden Voyage, Cantaloupe Island and Watermelon Man, lend themselves quite easily to the latin treatment. Others, such as The Sorcerer, are a bit of a stretch. Herwig's last album, the Wayne Shorter, got some good airplay on Sirius, and I expect that this will as well.
  8. Happy Birthday sidewinder! Time to dig out that Four Freshmen Mosaic!

  10. Since I got my new ISP without a cap, I've been listening to a lot of AccuJazz. I especially enjoy the vibes, Blue Note, 50s and 60s channels.
  11. It's Labor Day Weekend with its traditional schedule! Matt Flowers West report http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4338203.htm ***** Matt Flowers East report http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4338783 ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 10 picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4338519 ***** Globe & Mail Week 10 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-week-10-preview/article1694799/
  12. She had a hit record (AM radio) when I was in high school ca. '66. As I recall, it was the Beatles' And I Love Him.
  13. Congrats, and welcome back, Bruce!
  14. I like everything about Dave Brubeck except his piano playing. I like everything abut Starbucks except their coffee.
  15. I received my Gevalia coffee today. I'll have some tomorrow. There are two "refer a friend" programs. The first is by mail. You get two half-pound boxes of coffee from a selection of 19 coffees and the fancy coffee maker. This costs $10.00 with free shipping. The second way is via the internet. The internet deal costs $12.95. It isn't clear if the shipping is free. (As far as I can see, shipping when not free is always $5.95.) You get the fancy coffee maker plus a stainless steel scoop, plus two half-pound boxes from a selection of 40. Or you can take the internet deal to get a stainless steel tea kettle with a canister and a travel mug and two boxes of tea from a selection of 19 teas. PM me if you are interested.
  16. I don't see a lot of support for Safari! Thanks guys!
  17. I've been using Firefox for a few years now. Last week while downloading the updated QuickTime Player, I had the opportunity to download Safari, so I did. I've got no complaints with Firefox. What's the sales pitch behind Safari? Any reason to choose one over the other?
  18. Somewhere I picked up the idea that your thought isn't crystalized until it is spoken/thought in a specific language. And therefore if there is no word in your language for a specific thought, then you don't think it. As a result, people with large vocabularies have more specific ideas than those with small vocabularies. When you see an athlete interviewed on TV saying that he cannot express his feelings in words, he does not really have a specific idea to express. That has been my understanding of it.
  19. Other than the Coleman Hawkins sides included with the Prestige box, what pre-Blue Note Monk sides are there?
  20. Thanks for that list! I didn't realize that I already have 12 of those albums, which is to say that I'm not missing much. So when the time comes I'll just go for what I don't have rather than a complete set.
  21. The Als have released Stanford Samuels and OJ Santiago. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=332073
  22. This weekend I read Carl Hiassen's current best seller Star Island. Light fare with a few laughs. Not good enough to make me want to read another of his anytime soon, but not bad enough to discourage me from ever reading another one of his.
  23. I expected both games this weekend to be blowouts. But (surprise!) it didn't happen. Calgary Stampeders 48....British Columbia Lions 35 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W862.htm http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/burris-stars-as-stamps-beat-lions/article1688707/ Casey Printers is back off the injured list. As you can see from the score: 1) The Lions looked like a good team offensively with Printers in control. and 2) Even with three interceptions, the Lions' defense couldn't stop the Stampeders. ***** Edmonton Eskimos 17....Saskatchewan Roughriders 14 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W863.htm http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/eskimos-fend-off-riders/article1689021/ The Eskimos looked pretty dismal. Trailing 14-0 in the second, Richie Hall pulled Ricky Ray and put in Jared Zabransky for most of the rest of the game. The Eskimos did all of the scoring for the rest of the game, as Darian Durant had a mediocre game. Noel Prefontaine gave Edmonton its first lead of the night with a FG with only 37 seconds left in the game
  24. Welcome back MG! If there were two with that name, would they be MGA and MGB?
  25. Mark Murphy did Spring, as I recall on his Rah album.
