  1. Edmonton Eskimos 24....Toronto Argonauts 6 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/esks-sink-argos-in-atlantic-test/article1726912/ http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W879.htm It was a close game for three quarters (10-6 after three), but the Eskimos blew them away in the fourth.
  2. The Reds have a Cuban relief pitcher named Chapman who threw 25 straight pitches over 100 mph against the Padres, including one at a record 105 mph against Tony Gwynn. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sh-redspadres092410
  3. Montreal Alouettes 44....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 40 http://scoreboards.c.../final/W876.htm The Als took a quick 10-0 lead, and it looked like the game would be a blow out. But the Bombers got their act together and led for much of the game. Unfortunately, in the fourth quarter a bad call led to an Als TD, and another bad call awarded the Als the game winning TD. So the game was marred by the officiating. ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 32....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 25 http://scoreboards.c.../final/W877.htm The Ticats took a 15-0 lead, but the Riders fought back. There were four lead changes. The Ticats had a chance to tie it in the last minute. They marched the ball downfield, but on the last play of the game the Riders intercepted the ball in the end zone. ***** British Columbia Lions 29....Calgary Stampeders 10 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4344682 For the first time that I can remember, both starting quarterbacks were benched for poor play. Paul McCallum hit six FGs. The Stampeders scored a TD with 12 seconds to go to make the score more respectable. ***** Tomorrow's Argos-Eskimos game in Moncton will be the first regular season game ever played in Atlantic Canada. It will also be the first regular season game ever played at a neutral site. http://slam.canoe.ca...5/15477456.html
  4. jazzkrow, I have been a happy subscriber for 4.5 years. I get Sirius in my car. In addition to the music, I listen to the cable tv news channels, and feel no need to subscribe to cable television. Two years ago I drove to Kansas and back, and appreciated being able to listen to music or whatever without the channels ever fading out and needing to find another.
  5. Unbelievable! The game ended in a draw. 9.14.68 to 10.8.68. They don't play overtime! They will come back next week and play another game!
  6. St. Kilda did little in the second quarter, but Collingwood failed to score a goal in the third quarter. After three it's Collingwood by eight, 7.13.55 to 7.5.47. I was able to switch back over to 3AW during halftime, but my man Rex isn't calling the game this year.
  7. Kenny, I don't get cable television. My ISP is not affiliated with ESPN, so it is not available to me on the web (espn3.com). At a quarter past midnight, my 3AW stream stopped. I suppose that the website was seeing too much demand. It took me 20 minutes, but I found the game on the website of SEN1116 in Melbourne, and I missed only the first three minutes of the game. Great game so far! Right now the score is 6.4.40 to 4.2.26, Collingwood.
  8. David Naylor Week 13 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-this-week/article1722522/
  9. Tonight's the night! I envy you guys on the west coast, for whom the game starts at 9:00 pm. I'll be staying up till 3:00 am to listen. The Age has a poll running on its website. With nearly 14,000 voting, 51% are picking the Collingwood Magpies to win, 49% the St. Kilda Saints.
  10. Happy Birthday 2010 Ron!
  11. Israeli pianist Anat Fort and her trio will briefly tour North America next month to support her new ECM album And If. I like And If a lot more than her last album, which after repeated listenings I decided I didn't like at all. This one is a bit spacy, but it is very pleasant to listen to, and does not devolve into mediocre New Age. Here are the dates: October 2nd Edmonton, AB October 5th Washington DC Blues Alley October 7th New York, NY Birdland October 9th Baltimore, MD An Die Musik
  12. Randy, if Jim is travelling and away from the board for an extended period, I suggest you do what I did. A few years ago I had computer problems, and I was unable to log on here. So I started a second account without the space between the GA and the Russell. If you do the same thing, you will be able to access the Politics board with your second account, and everyone will know that it is you.
  13. Arizona wants Baggs back. Too late! http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=334871
  14. Matt Flowers East report http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4343764.htm ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 13 picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4343785
  15. Happy Birthday 2010 gdogus!
  16. I have mixed feelings about Norma Winstone's new album Stories Yet to Tell. I've always loved her voice, and after forty years in the business she still sounds great. But I feel that she needs someone to give her advice regarding song selection for her albums. Only one song here is the least bit uptempo. I don't dislike any of the tracks. Any one would be welcome as a respite in an album. But the songs are emotionally flat, and listening to an hour of that kind of music becomes a downer before it reaches its end. As with her last album, she is joined only by Glauco Venier on piano and Klaus Gesing on bass clarinet and soprano sax. The absence of bass violin and drums gives the album more of a cabaret feeling than a jazz date. This isn't an album I would recommend to someone to introduce him to Winstone.
  17. Thanks for that very informative post, MG!

  19. After trying out with the NY Jets, Bo Smith has signed with the Ticats. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=334576
  20. Jesse Lumsden has signed with the Stampeders. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/lumsden-signs-with-stampeders-practice-squad/article1715768/
  21. Good idea, Jim. I can't remember the last time I checked for spyware, so I went to tucows and downloaded Spybot - Search & Destroy. It found 18 spyware programs and 100 issues. We'll see if the machine runs any faster now. I bet it will!
  22. LOL! I needed to do it again! It seems like I can't download anything without getting an unwanted toolbar!
  23. Toronto Argonauts 17....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 13 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4343129 Pretty boring for most of the first three quarters, but a good fourth quarter. Lots of punts. Renaud punted 12 times, Boreham 11 times. ***** Montreal Alouettes 31....Edmonton Eskimos 14 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4343185 Anthony Calvillo is back. The Als jumped off to an early 26-0 lead, and coasted the rest of the way.
  24. Hamilton Tiger-Cats 36....British Columbia Lions 31 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W873.htm Good game with a crazy fourth quarter. BC led 28-16 after three, but self-destructed with five turnovers in the fourth. In that one quarter, Casey Printers threw two INTs and fumbled twice.
  25. In 1967 I got an album on the Parrot (London) label by Alan Price called This Price is Right. This was Price's first US album after he left The Animals. One of the songs was called Bet No One Ever Hurt So Bad by Randy Newman. A few years later BS&T released Spinning Wheel. It's the same song with different lyrics.
