  1. Edmonton has signed Lenny Walls and Lawrence Gordon. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edmonton/2010/03/24/13341151-qmi.html
  2. Dave, that was a great deal of money in 1967. You were spoiled!
  3. Tonight I finished The House Without a Key by Earl Derr Biggers (1925), the first Charlie Chan story. Light escapist fare, but a page-turner.
  4. BC has hired Rich Stubler to be a defensive coach. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Koshan/2010/03/22/13325536-qmi.html
  5. BC has signed Jamal Robertson. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/lions-sign-jamal-robertson/article1508280/ http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4299673.htm
  6. I admit that I'm losing my mind, but I seem to recall hearing Missa Luba in 1967 as a leit motif of the movie If. Am I right?
  7. I'm unable to get onto lala over half the time nowadays. The site loads partially, and then stops before its click buttons are functional. Anybody else have this problem?
  8. If it were me, I'd go to a Winnipeg Blue Bombers game. I've never been to Manitoba, and I understand that it is great camping country. Don't forget that up that way is Hormel's International Spam Museum. It's on the interstate. I drove past it once, but i wasn't in the mood to stop. It's something that everyone back home could appreciate!
  9. I got two African albums in the summer of '71, although they may have both been recorded in England - Osibisa's self-titled first album and Demon Fuzz's self-titled first (and only?) album.
  10. Winnipeg has released Fred Perry. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Winnipeg/2010/03/19/13293726-qmi.html
  11. Here's a New York Times article that says that Universal will sell throughout 2010 CDs for $10. It says that "deluxe" CDs will sell for more, but it doesn't define "deluxe". SoundScan says that CD sales are half what they were in 2000, and Universal thinks that is because the price is too high. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/19/business/media/19music.html?ref=media
  12. Congratulations RJ!
  13. I remember the Davy Crockett shows well. But it is a mystery to me how the whole coonskin cap thing took off on the basis of only three television episodes. (a fourth was made later). Did Estes Kefauver wear his coonskin cap before the Davy Crockett shows?
  14. He was on a recent live album with Terje Rypdal, called Life in Leipzig I believe. Very nice album. They also did a couple of ECM albums in the 90's together, The Sea and The Sea II. Thanks Aggie. I have Life in Leipzig. I'll put it out over the weekend and give it another listen.
  15. I like Manu Katche. The name Ketil Bjornstad sure rings a bell. I think he was on an ECM that came out in 2009.
  16. Happy Birthday Rooster!
  17. Lala: Jon Eardley - The Jon Eardley Seven Herbie Mann - Returns to the Village Gate
  18. Warren Moon probably would have been drafted for something, but he signed with Edmonton before the NFL draft because he didn't think that he would be given a shot at quarterback. I see that my man Jeff Garcia made the list.
  19. I think you guys like it more than I do. I like Paolo Fresu a lot. I've never been a big fan of Ralph Towner's. It's not that I dislike him. I just don't find him very interesting. Towner wrote all of the songs on this album except Blue in Green, and one other which he co-wrote with Fresu. Towner doesn't get in Fresu's way here, so that's good. But I don't think that he contributes much of interest. I find the album pleasant enough, good for background music. PS - WorldB3, let us know what you think of them in concert!
  20. Toronto has signed former Miami Dolphin QB Cleo Lemon. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cleo-lemon-heads-to-toronto/article1503197/
  21. Gil Brandt has listed the top players of the past fifty years to have not been drafted. #1 is Kurt Warner. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d816fb4f0&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
  22. I have a cassette of somebody on the Sue label, I think Jimmy McGriff, which is an EMI product.
  23. It's a feather in the band's cap to have Terri on board. She was Fantasy's PR dept. for thirty years, and still does Sonny Rollins' work today. I've noticed that Doug Ramsey on his Rifftides blog always manages to find space for Terri's clients. Welcome Terri!
  24. Happy Birthday Conrad!
