My copy arrived in today's mail! So right away I put on disc 1, which was the disc I was really looking forward to hearing. My standards for an Art Pepper disc are very high. I have recently been listening on lala to The Return of Art Pepper, and I love it. I may buy a hard copy of that one. Perfect West Coast cool. I like all of my Art Pepper albums, with my least favorite being Modern Art. It's solid jazz, but I don't think it's five-star special. Because my expectations of disc 1 here were so high, I'm somewhat disappointed in it. I would rank it with Modern Art in terms of quality. It sounds very much like it. One of the things disc 1 does is make me appreciate even more the three previously released Widow's Taste albums, all of which were late-period Art. I always thought I preferred 50s Art to late Art, but maybe I should limit that to only the earliest of his recordings when his sound was really smooth. I'll keep listening to disc 1 and let it sink in, and I'll let you guys be the first to review discs 2 and 3. By the way, the fidelity on my pedestrian system is great throughout the entire disc. Edit: Oops! No wonder it sounds like Modern Art! Now that I have taken the time to look quickly at the liner notes, I see that 7 of the disc's 17 tracks have been taken from that CD! 5 have been taken from Surf Ride, and 2 from Meets the Rhythm Section.

Here's an article that says that the pretty girls are given the Centre Court to play on, while better players are given less prestigious courts. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,529865,00.html

Edmonton Eskimos 19....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 17 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1205000/ Here's a surprise. Jesse Lumsden injured his shoulder in the first quarter. It rained for much of the game on Edmonton's natural turf, and it was a defensive struggle throughout. Near the end of the second quarter, the score was 2-2, with both punters conceding the safety touch. Winnipeg had a chance to tie it on the last play of the game, but Serna's 47 yard FG attempt went wide.

Montreal Alouettes 40....Calgary Stampeders 27 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/als-...article1203774/ The Als took a 20-0 lead, but the Stamps fought back to tie it at 27 in the third. The Als scored 6 on 2 FGs in the fourth. With less than three minutes to go, the Stamps moved the ball downfield, but Henry Burris fumbled in the backfield, and Chip Cox returned it 81 yards for a TD to seal the victory. During the game, play by play announcer Mark Stephen asked for emails, so I sent him greetings from North Carolina, which he read on the air!

And the season is underway! Toronto Argonauts 30....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 17 http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Gam...9996621-cp.html If the Ticats can't beat the Argos, who can they beat? The Bombers? Hamilton had a decent second quarter, but basically they were never in it. Argos rookie Matt Lambros scored a TD on his first CFL reception.

Montreal Alouettes http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/alou...article1202990/ I tell you what! I think reading all of these previews I've linked gives you a better knowledge of the CFL than the NFL fan has of the NFL when he plunks down his ten bucks for his Street & Smith and Athlon Annuals!

I heard on the radio today that nobody is sure if he had a will. Can you imagine someone that wealthy whose financial advisors did not insist that he have a will? -

marcello, I listened to this in November a couple of times and it didn't move me, so I put it away and forgot about it. Seeing your post, I decided to revisit the album over the weekend, and I found that this is another album whose first track I don't like, and that colored my view of the entire album. Yesterday I tried it skipping the first track, and I loved it! So here's a big thumbs up.

RDK, I too thought of Billy May. I am familiar with the old Oxyclean commercials, but had no idea what the fellow's name was.

I put this aside for a long while. I've listened to a few times over the past few days, and I'm liking it more now than ever. There is one song I don't like, so maybe I'll burn a copy without it. I think this was available from Your Music. Those of you who subscribe ought to pick it up!
