  1. My Jackie's Bag arrived today, so the new number one on my hit parade queue is The Beach Boys - Friends and 20/20 Each year in mid-May I break out my surfing and surf guitar records and get psyched for the summer. I think I'm getting a little too old to do this, as I just don't enjoy the music of my youth as much as I used to. Still, at YourMusic's prices, I thought it would be worthwhile to pick up a couple of Beach Boys albums I haven't heard before. This is a two LPs on one CD deal, and includes one of their last hits, Do It Again.
  2. Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things This was recorded to fulfill his Atlantic contract while he was touring the country with Brasil '66, which recorded for A&M. Although it has a little more jazz than Brasil '66, it's still a pop (what we would today call "lounge") album rather than a jazz album. It's relaxing and enjoyable, but not at all essential, regardless of its category.
  3. 1964, the British Invasion. That year enjoyed in the US not only the best current recordings of all the British bands, but also their accumulated backlog from '63.
  4. I like his 50s work the best, especially his work with Shorty Rogers. Michael Cuscuna once recommended to me his album with Chet Baker called The Route, which is now OOP, but which you can probably get used.
  5. Aggie, did they ship you something else, or are they going to bill you your monthly fee without sending you anything?
  6. I received the disk from Cosmi today, and it appears to be an upgrade! Nice service. I am trying everything out now and it all appears OK. Certainly it loaded properly. By the way, this appears to be a Pinnacle program. Maybe Cosmi is just the distributor. The packaging mentions only Cosmi, but the Manual mentions only Pinnacle.
  7. The Left Bank Jazz Society was not a nightclub. It was an organizataion which promoted jazz concerts in concert halls in Baltimore and Washington. I saw the Left Bank's DC concerts of the Roy Haynes Hip Ensemble, Horace Silver and Art Blakey. By far, the Haynes date was the most memorable.
  8. That's why baseball is a great game for kids!
  9. I need The Four Freshmen Disc 1, if anyone has one to spare! Considering how unpopular that box is on this board, I'm optimistic!
  10. The worst that I can think of was Thelonious Monk's first studio date for Prestige. Not even close!
  11. LOL! That's a match! I listened to an Eydie Gorme record just last week. She sang Feelings in Spanish.
  12. I received today a reply from Cosmi offering to send me a new disk. That was nice, considering that I hadn't told them that I went back to the store and it was sold out. We'll see how long it takes for the disk to arrive. I'm betting it will come on the 12th.
  13. I used Turbo Tax, and got a prompt refund. Unfortunately, I had owed taxes from a previous year, so my refund was small.
  14. It's great to see New Orleans included on the tour. When I grew up there, nobody came to town, except Roland Kirk once. About twenty years ago I bought their album A Paris, which I enjoy from time to time.
  15. Thanks guys. I have registered the product with the manufacturer, and immediately posed the question to them. Wesbed, if their answer is not satisfactory, I'll give your suggestion a try. Minew, I thought about that. The program has a 20 digit key which must be entered for it to work. I have typed it in a number of times with the same result. It wouldn't surprise me if you were right. By the way, the manufacturrer is Cosmi, and this is a 2004 program, so things should be up to date.
  16. My aunt, a registered nurse, says that he is not back in the hospital because he is slowly dying. I would like to point out that nowadays the last rites are given to sick people who are not necessarily on the verge of passing away. My mom was given the last rites I think three times before she died. The pope has been weak for so long that I think that many people have forgotten how vigorous and athletic he was when he first became pope. He used to go skiing on his vacations, remember?
  17. I'm trying to load a program onto my computer. The disc has three programs, and two loaded satisfactorily. But the primary program won't install. When the time comes for installation, I get the message: "Internal Error 2735. Check OEMState." What does this mean? The OEM is the Manual, right? The manual just says to follow the instructions of the program regarding installation, so there isn't any help there. I went to the store to exchange the disc this morning, hoping that maybe my disc is just defective, but they were sold out, and wouldn't give me a refund because the package had been opened. How's that for service! Anyway, I don't know what I am supposed to do to install the program. It's supposed to be easy, so what do you recommend?
  18. It looks like I'm back to the drawing board. I bought Nero 6 but returned it unopened when I realized that only a small part of it was relevant to my needs. Today I bought DVD Ripper at Walmart, and it isn't loading properly. I get an error message for the main program, although two other programs including Adobe Reader 5.1 loaded fine. So it looks like I'll just try the download you recommend, although with my slow dial-up it might take forever. We'll see.
  19. In my view one of the best albums of recent years. Che. I'm pretty much out of touch with what has been produced since the turn of the century, so I can't say if I agree with you about it being one of the best of the recent issues, but I like this. I'm going to put it in my car, where I can listen to it more closely.
  20. Bill Evans and Jim Hall - Undercurrent Very relaxing for Sunday.
  21. EST - Strange Place for Snow
  22. Easter ham and swiss cheese, on rye!
  23. Happy Easter to all my friends at Organissimo!
  24. I was in very tough straits last year. Wish I could give some advice, but can recommend the French saying, "A money wound is not fatal." When I worked at a car dealership, I learned that many people have less than perfect credit. Don't give up! There are people who have health problems who would gladly trade their problems for money woes!
