Markus Rutz Moods & Spirits of the Season Impacting November 3rd, 2023 Format(s): Holiday, Jazz Markus Rutz Chicago musician & composer, releases Moods & Spirits of the Season His first-ever holiday album! Seasons of year brings to mind feelings, sights, aromas and sounds, and includes covers of classic traditional seasonal songs with original arrangements. The album features Rutz bright yet subdued interpretation of seasonal standards including: Blue Christmas Christmas Time Is Here Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let it Snow Oh Holy Night Winter Wonderland “The holiday season carries many associations of faith, traditions, families, cities and nostalgia” says Markus Rutz, who leads the group and plays trumpet. “For me it also brings feelings. Moods & Spirits of the Season reflect these sentiments and offer the sounds to listeners to share from my own perspective.” With trumpet by Markus the album also features his trio arrangements where Adrian Joel Ruiz is the pianist along with bassist Clark Sommers. Recorded August 06, 2023 at Electrical Audio in Chicago, Illinois with studio engineer Brian Fox. Audio engineering is by David Stoller of The Samurai Hotel in Astoria in Queens, New York. The selections for the album are representative for the trumpet player from beginning of school concerts through present day concerts in conjunction with the acclaimed Rose Theatre from Washington DC. The songs will be very familiar, and represent a journey through his past. “I can remember playing holiday concerts at our junior high school gymnasium; playing themes with trumpet piano duets with my mom; and even together with my sisters joining in at times on clarinet, alto saxophone, voice and percussion during snowy weekend evenings in December.” While in high school, Rutz also took on holiday music with the county orchestra, and later in college with brass quintets emulating his trumpet professor John Aley, from a memorable live radio broadcast with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet. These experiences, good feelings and memories determined the song selection which were then arranged for the trio performance in the studio featuring Ruiz on piano and Sommers on bass. BIOGRAPHY Markus Rutz plays trumpet with bluesy, soulful style and a tone that has been called gorgeous. The last few years have been years of achievement in mid-career activities of performances and recording with local and national honors. It’s not Christmas until I hear the song at my parents’ house, and everyone sings along." - Silva "I love singing this one with Silva. It’s such a beautiful melody; like a distillation of every positive Christmas memory there is. There’s something reflective and otherworldly about it too." – Steini Reykjavík, Iceland-based musicians Silva & Steini reimagine the classic “Christmas Time Is Here,” the popular Christmas standard written by Vince Guaraldi and Lee Mendelson for the 1965 television special A Charlie Brown Christmas. MLB 2023: how ya like it now?

Those were not the Senators I was referring to! Speaking of 1924, I'm pretty sure they were called the Nats then. -

It occurs to me now (It did not occur to me then.) that the Nationals won the World Series before the Senators did! -
Very enjoyable. I saw the movie fifty years ago, but all I can remember is the car chase and that the Robert Vaughn character was a jerk!

Cowbell Music Presents Benjamin Koppel's WHITE BUSES Passage to Freedom DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE NOW. CD AVAILABLE ON NOVEMBER 25, 2023. WWW.COWBELLMUSIC.DK/SHOP BENJAMIN KOPPEL (DK) - saxophone THANA ALEXA (US/HR) - vocals URI CAINE (US) - piano SCOTT COLLEY (US) - bass HENRIK DAM THOMSEN (DK) - cello SØREN MØLLER (DK) - keys ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ (MEX) - drums ABOUT THE MUSIC Putting into words the everyday life of concentration camp prisoners during World War II is an impossible task. But can you set it to music? During the end of the war, rescue operations were organized and coordinated by the Red Cross. In total, 20,000 concentration camp prisoners were rescued alive from the Nazi extermination camps via the White Buses. Danish musician Benjamin Koppel has composed the work White Buses, which conveys a story that must not be forgotten. EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS The work about the White Buses’ rescue operation was created by Koppel himself interviewing survivors of the camps. A number of these statements are drawn into the music like flying quotes, and in the introduction, for example, we hear an elderly gentleman state, ‘There’s a devil under the skin of any human being - beware, it never gets out!” We start off despairing and searching. WHITE BUSES Award-winning composer and saxophonist Benjamin Koppel has composed a stunning work based on recorded statements from surviving concentration camp prisoners who were rescued by the White Buses. It is a musical interpretation of a piece of violent world history, that should not be forgotten. Joy and fear, hope and sorrow are all part of the eyewitness accounts of the Red Cross rescue operation ‘The White Buses’, which drove prisoners from concentration camps to safety in Sweden and Denmark in the final months of World War II. The music is composed around the poignant quotes that make the story both vivid and relevant. The work was recorded in New York with an international All-star ensemble consisting of some of today’s greatest and most interesting musicians: Grammy-nominated jazz singer Thana Alexa, the 5-time Grammy winner Antonio Sánchez on drums, Scott Colley on bass, Uri Caine behind the grand piano, Søren Møller on keys, and solo cellist from the Danish National Symphony Orchestra Henrik Dam Thomsen. JONI MITCHELL "YOU TURN ME ON I'M A RADIO" IN STUDIO WITH NEIL YOUNG & THE STRAY GATORS FROM FOR THE ROSES EARLY SESSIONS FROM FORTHCOMING ARCHIVES, VOL. 3: THE ASYLUM YEARS (1972-1975) LOS ANGELES — Come 1972, Joni Mitchell’s singular songwriting talent and poetic gifts were undeniable. Fresh off the back-to-back Platinum-certified releases of 1970’s Ladies of the Canyon and 1971’s Blue — totemic albums whose artfulness and ubiquity would influence generations of songwriters — Mitchell had grown wary of mounting media scrutiny. Everything from her style choices to romantic partners became the subject of far more gossip column inches than were ever dedicated to the lifestyle minutiae of her male counterparts. In response, she had pulled back, announcing an early retirement from the stage in 1970 and moving to the quiet expanses of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast. It was a fruitful change of scenery. Inspired by her proximity to nature and refreshed by the peaceful seclusion, she began constructing the songs that would become For The Roses. This respite thrust Mitchell into a remarkably fertile creative period, yielding a run of albums — 1972’s For The Roses, 1974’s Court And Spark, and 1975’s The Hissing Of Summer Lawns — that would simultaneously expand and refine the scope of her music. Her adventurous, intricate arrangements and growing formidability as a bandleader injected these songs with a clarity of purpose, a potent muscularity, and a sense of possibility — it is among the most exciting eras of a near peerless career. This era comes into even greater focus on Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975), out October 6, 2023 on Rhino Records. It’s the latest entry in Rhino’s ongoing, GRAMMY® Award-winning series exploring the vast untapped archives of rare Joni Mitchell recordings — a project guided intimately by Mitchell’s own vision and personal touch. Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975) will be available both in a 5CD / digital version and a 4LP cut-down version, both with an accompanying book featuring photos and a conversation about this period between Joni Mitchell and longtime friend Cameron Crowe. Pre-orders are available at jonimitchell.com. As Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) — which won a 2022 GRAMMY® Award for Best Historical Album — and Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971) did, Vol. 3 boasts an embarrassment of riches. The collection begins with an early cut of “Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire,” one of two songs (along with “For The Roses”) test-driven during a visit to a Graham Nash David Crosby recording session at Wally Heider’s in Hollywood. From there, listeners are treated to early demos and alternate versions from sessions from For The Roses, Court & Spark, and The Hissing Of Summer Lawns; historic live show recordings, including the entirety of Mitchell’s triumphant 1972 return to Carnegie Hall and a definitive gig with her Court And Spark backing band Tom Scott & the L.A. Express; and tracks from sessions cut alongside James Taylor, Graham Nash, and Neil Young. As she approaches her 80th birthday later this year, Joni Mitchell is reaffirming the vitality and resonance of her music. Last month, she released At Newport, a live album commemorating her incredible comeback performance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival. Pitchfork described it as “a joyous surprise, a moment of wonder,” while NPR Music says it “[shows] Mitchell's legacy in action and how younger generations of musicians carry forth her spirit of imagination and fearless reconfiguration.” Back in June, Mitchell held her first ticketed performance in over 20 years at a sold-out Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA. Rolling Stone called it “The triumph of the human spirit we all desperately craved…a powerful celebration of Mitchell’s life and resiliency.” From The Reprise Albums: Ladies Of The Canyon (1970) From The Asylum Albums: Court and Spark (1974) Miles Of Aisles (1974) (2LP Live) The Hissing Of Summer Lawns (1975) JONI MITCHELL ARCHIVES VOL. 3: THE ASYLUM YEARS (1972 TO 1975) Full Track Listing CD One: Graham Nash David Crosby Session Wally Heider Studios, Hollywood, CA, Dec. 13, 1971 1.
