hey honey, you know that Anita O' Day set from mosaic is almost sold out, maybe we should grab it. How much is it, uh...only $144. Yes I know I have lots of those Mosaic sets already and a 1000cds but.... Ok Ok.
to be continued
I found a rack on ebay for $25 including shipping that holds 350 cds. It appears to be similar to the ones I alrady have. 350 more slots shopuld hold me for a while. Next step is to sell the ones I never listen to anymore.
The O'Day set is on my list. As of today, there are 185 copies left and will be available until they sell out. I also asked if there would be a summer sale and was told no sale this year.
Songs for the Jet Set and his Ellington tribute-sings hot and cool are two of my favorites. Whe you see Tony Bennett, you see a legend. He did a terrific version of Billy Joel's best song-New York State of Mind last time I saw him.
You can take the bus to the ferry from San Francisco to within two blocks of yoshis. going back, it's about a $3 buck cab ride to the BART which runs until midnight. I used this method a few weeks ago when I went to see Dave Holland's big band-very easy and a fun ride across the bay if the weather is good or sit inside and watch the commuters down the cocktails. Yoshis has a good Japanese restaurant as well.
Yamaha 1010 integrated amp circa 1978
using a DVD player right now to play cds-works ok until I get something better
Klipsch Heresy speakers also circa 1978
my cabling is pretty old- i replaced the cd cable a few years ago but can't remember the brand. I think I use monster cable for the speaker wire. Sound is pretty clean and I like the Klipsch concept. Eventually I will upgrade but no bucks at the moment.
I also listen in the car-Toyota JBL system with 6 cd indash player-not bad for a factory unit.
Duke Ellington - The Centennial Edition is one of the most poorly packaged box sets ever and, yes, my booklet is falling apart-doesn't stink though. This is a true shame as this music is so important.
check out the live music section of archive.org. Almost 2000 Dead shows to stream or download (in a variety of formats including lossless). I've been listening to a lot of 73 shows. Lots of other bands as well.
just saw this. is the offer still open? Glad to see you guys are releasing another cd;really enjoyed the first one and hope to see the band in DC on your tour!
saw them at Yoshis last week. A fabulous show. A highlight was the last part of the Monterey piece featuring an absolutely stunning intro by Dave. The arrangements reminded me of Gerald Wilson at times. A big band is the epitome of jazz!
check out half.com. I wish listed it and after a couple of emails picked up like new copy of Blues in Orbit for around $9 including shipping (seller's feedback was fine). I;ve got soooo many Ellington cds but the other two releases sound good as well so I guess I'll put them on the list. thanks for the info
so they added a lot of bells and whistles-flash, etc. The result: slow downloads even with broadband and a somewhat confusing layout. I had no problems with the old look. If it ain't broke......
wow-the big band. It's aways away but I'm really going to try and make it. maybe board members could gather before or after the show somewhere. I enjoyed meeting Bertrand and his son last year at the Tom Williams gig.
I do not see the word dishonest in my post. I do not regard Hal as dishonest. Perhaps the description could have been clearer, perhaps I misread it. As I said above, I was satisfied with Hal's response. I would buy from him again and will post +++ feedback. End of story and this transaction. OK?
I, OTOH, ordered what was advertised as the Storyville 97 Duke at Fargo but turned out to be the 1990 Vintage jazz classic release instead. Hal offered a 30% refund and I keep the discs which seems fair. Is there much difference in SQ between the 2 releases???
