  3. Ghuck is going to be in Buffalo Friday night. What's in Buffalo? any update on an appearance in DC?
  4. Dish network added Sirius channels a few months ago so I listen to it sometimes but, as my TY system is stoneage, low fidelity. I'm not sure I get all the channels but here's plenty of music available. In the car, it's news or music on my 6 cd changer and considering the number of cds I have, I just haven't been motivated to get into satellite radio. Maybe oneday. I just don't think both XM and Sirius will be able to survive over the long run.
  5. My wife picked the Krall Christmas cd up a few days ago and while the arrangements are nice (including a couple with Johnny Mandel) most of the tracks leaving me saying: fill in the blank did this one better. Her voice just does not move me. Back to the topic: Oscar Peterson Christmas Blue Note Christmas 6 string Santa-Joe Pass. A great jazz album not just a great Christmas album Ella Fitzgerald- A swingin' Christmas Tony Bennett Chrismas Album-Snowfall Al Dimeola Winter Nights Cyrus Chestnut-A Charlie Brown Christmas God rest ye merry Jazzmen Jethro Tull Christmas Nat King Cole Christmas album Carpenters Christmas Portrait Blue Christmas-Elvis Presley
  6. When I was attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville one night a friend and I went to the Bluebird Cafe to see Lenny Breau; that night he was playing a 7 string guitar and was sublime . A great talent and a junkie;heroin wasted another great artist.
  7. speaking of DPs-..how is 31 as far as SQ? Is it one of those flat soundboards or nice and dynamic?
  8. Miles got his singer back. RIP
  9. second the TCB Laussaune cds. I assume you have Moanin'? Yes, it was recorded in 10/58 but it is a must have cd
  10. Bummer!!! Hope you can make it to DC. If Blues Alley doesn't work try TwinsJazz club on U Street. Nice space. Caveat for Jim-it is up a flight of stairs

  13. 72 Anita's left as of last thursday
  14. terrible packaging and the booklet will quickly fall apart-music ain't bad though
  15. hey honey, you know that Anita O' Day set from mosaic is almost sold out, maybe we should grab it. How much is it, uh...only $144. Yes I know I have lots of those Mosaic sets already and a 1000cds but.... Ok Ok. to be continued
  16. from someone who knew him perhaps better than anyone. thanks
  17. I found a rack on ebay for $25 including shipping that holds 350 cds. It appears to be similar to the ones I alrady have. 350 more slots shopuld hold me for a while. Next step is to sell the ones I never listen to anymore.
  18. Called Mosaic a few minutes ago, there are 185 Anita sets left.
  19. The O'Day set is on my list. As of today, there are 185 copies left and will be available until they sell out. I also asked if there would be a summer sale and was told no sale this year.

    Tony Bennett

Songs for the Jet Set and his Ellington tribute-sings hot and cool are two of my favorites. Whe you see Tony Bennett, you see a legend. He did a terrific version of Billy Joel's best song-New York State of Mind last time I saw him.
  22. You can take the bus to the ferry from San Francisco to within two blocks of yoshis. going back, it's about a $3 buck cab ride to the BART which runs until midnight. I used this method a few weeks ago when I went to see Dave Holland's big band-very easy and a fun ride across the bay if the weather is good or sit inside and watch the commuters down the cocktails. Yoshis has a good Japanese restaurant as well.
  23. Yamaha 1010 integrated amp circa 1978 using a DVD player right now to play cds-works ok until I get something better Klipsch Heresy speakers also circa 1978 my cabling is pretty old- i replaced the cd cable a few years ago but can't remember the brand. I think I use monster cable for the speaker wire. Sound is pretty clean and I like the Klipsch concept. Eventually I will upgrade but no bucks at the moment. I also listen in the car-Toyota JBL system with 6 cd indash player-not bad for a factory unit.
  24. Duke Ellington - The Centennial Edition is one of the most poorly packaged box sets ever and, yes, my booklet is falling apart-doesn't stink though. This is a true shame as this music is so important.
  25. check out the live music section of archive.org. Almost 2000 Dead shows to stream or download (in a variety of formats including lossless). I've been listening to a lot of 73 shows. Lots of other bands as well.
